When my daughter had her 7th birthday i rented a sorbetes cart. It was a hit with the kids. It was gone within 2hrs. That's how good it is. Mamang sorbetero was happy, he got to go home early. Gave him a bonus for making his sorbetes extra special that day. Try sorbetes, if you want a unique party treat 😁

@@den-ver7333 It really depends on the dirty ice cream maker. There are some dirty ice cream that genuinely tastes better than Selecta, Nestle, or Aice. Personally, there's a dirty ice cream vendor near the area where I live which I prefer more than commercial ice cream although they're kind of a rarity. Most dirty ice cream sadly lacks the creaminess of the commercial ones, making them seem like regular ice candy rather than ice cream lol.

a lot of people assume that high profile jobs have more worth than others, but in my opinion, it's humble jobs like these where you can see just how dedicated the vendors are that are the most honorable. thank you to all sorbeteros and other street food vendors who do their work

Most common flavours I see today are mango, cheese and avocado. Ocassionally I see ube and strawberry. But when I was a kid I remember seeing melon and langka. I lament these are no longer made by sorbeteros. Back in the days of our parents and grandparents, the common flavor was mantecado which is vanilla with butter or lard. Selecta offered this flavor back in 2013 and it was delicious. Too bad only Arce Dairy makes it today.

Melon flavor is still sold by the Sorbetero here in our street. The other flavors he sells are Ube, Cheese and Chocolate (which I think is actually Chocnut.) Sometimes he has Cookies and Cream also. 🍦😋

Ephesians‬ ‭6:10‭-‬18 says, Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. The bible is no old book. You have to really let Christ open your eyes; to see the world in shambles. Many people say it's a religion to lock up people in chains, and say it's a rule book.. why? Because people hate hearing the truth, it hurts their flesh, it's hurts their pride, it's exposes on what things have they done..people love this world so much, s*x, money, power, women, supercars.. things of this world. Still trying to find something that can fill that emptiness in your heart. You can't find that in this world.. only in Christ, the bible is no chains, it's a chainbreaker. Breaking your sins into pieces... Repent now, and turn back to the true Lord only.. God bless. 😊😊

So many happy memories around the ice cream man. My parents would treat us after church on Sundays. Bless you ice cream makers and sellers. Keep going out there! People support these vendors. Queso Ube is the best combo for me. Would buy myself some dirty icecream next year. There is NO age limit on buying them.

We had a neighbour back in our previous barangay in Iloilo City who was operating a Sorbetes factory. So I saw how the whole sorbetes making process was done. Boiling water, corn starch, flavoring, ice crushing, etc. They basically make a generic ice cream base for each seller and the seller would then decide for himself if he wants to add cheese, buko strips, peanuts etc. to his mixture. Fun times.

It’s a shame so many fell for that trick when I was young. I noticed that they’re all but gone in my hometown. I hate how all these independent vendors are pretty much gone. When I go back to Philippines, I try to support the local industry.

I wish we could stop calling it "dirty". Thats another negative reinforcement in our culture to correct. It's Pinoy Sorbetes, a culinary treasure, and I love it.

True, when you hear dirty ice cream you aren't reminded of the nostalgia bells you hear that makes you run to your mom for 5 pesos.

@johnyuboco8346 Preachin' to the choir, man. I've been saying the exact thing for years and homies think I'm just overreacting. There's nothing dirty about Pinoy-style sorbetes, and like you said, it's a culinary treasure. Ano kayo? Sorbetes namin 'yan!!

@@eduardochavacano Surely you jest. "It is one thing that can be called cultural in the street food scene." That's both inaccurate and misleading. The Filipino street food scene is filled with a myriad of culinary delights, all of them unique Philippine cultural icons. And the variety keeps evolving that it's almost impossible to catalogue them here. "Dirty Ice Cream sounds cool". It doesn't. It sounds dirty, and not in a good way. I have been to many Filipino-hosted social functions here in the US where they feature a Mamang Sorbetero (complete with an authentic-looking sorbetes cart) serving "dirty ice cream". The concerned question that non-Filipino guests ask is, "IS IT DIRTY?" After offering the self- deprecating explanation (which screams, 'my country was once a colony of a superpower'), the oft-repeated response is, "that's just poor branding." And I tell my kids never to call it "dirty ice cream" whenever we're there on vacation. The term may sound cute coming from us locals, but it comes across as condescending when spoken by non-Pinoys. "Pinoy Sorbetes is just Trying Too Hard. No outside Central Luzon would call that Pinoy Sorbetes". Last time I checked, Filipinos outside Central Luzon are Pinoy, so why the specific geographic demarcation? Also, "but you may used [sic] that term in a thesis literature"?? Are you implying that is about academic pedantry? It is not. To quote the original post that started this discussion, this is another negative reinforcement in our culture (that we need) to correct. Along with the notion that off-brand cottage industry kakanins are inferior to store-bought confections. I've sampled gelatos from street vendors in Italy, and had raspados from paleteros here in So Cal. Neither of those local merchants attach the word "dirty" to their ice cream concoctions.
