Serbs have definitely pioneered many aspects of international basketball. Bora Stankovic working on getting the NBA players to participate. Vlade Divac the first international player to play 1000 games in the NBA. Peja the first European winning the three point shootout. First European head coaches Igor Kokoskov and Predrag Rajakovic are Serbian. And now Jokic reinventing the game with his style of play.

Morning said "you can credit Dream Team I & Dream Team II for that" (spreading basketball around the globe) but how about DreamTeam III in the 1996 Olympics? They were just as dominant as the first 2. It wasn't until 2000 that the "Dream Team" started looking vulnerable
@jodiwhite1689

yeah, they better get their best 12 or close to it, here soon because world is catching up, especially Canada and France .
@gabepizza
@gabepizza Жыл бұрын
@@jodiwhite1689 nooo, you don't get it. we can't send "Dream Teams" anymore. We need to send "Real Teams". The 10-12th man won't even get off the bench in meaningful games. The last time we won this thing in 2014 Kenneth Faried was selected to the FIBA All-Tournament Team. Dude never even made one all-star game. We need a few stars but also players to do the dirty work who don't need the ball in their hands.
@jodiwhite1689
@jodiwhite1689 Жыл бұрын
@@gabepizza I do actually get it. First of all I`m canadian, not american. FIBA game is more physical and game called little different. On Canada for example, kelly Olynyk is a decent player in NBA, but is star when he plays for Canada. Patti Mills for Australia and Evan Fournier for France always seem to play well too. And Zach Edey who lots don`t think will be any good in NBA will be very important for Canada in the future. My comment before was that the americans really should take their time picking their team and get well oiled machine. You need scorers, size and defensive stoppers. But remember bud, some stars will except being role players on USA and do the little things that matter, so nothing wrong with that. Exhibition games are so important to work on the roles for each member of team.

@@jodiwhite1689 you can also put Ricky Rubio into this group. FIBA 2019 WC MVP and scored 38 points against the US in the Olympics but in the playoffs (I'm a Knicks fans so I watched every game of Knicks vs Cavs) he barely got off the bench in the beginning and the last few games DNP. Other rule differences are shorter 3 point lines and I think no illegal defense so teams can pack the paint. Canada has been disappointing recently but if Jamal can play, he is one of the best guards in the league. As I Knicks' fan I can say that the jury is still out on RJ Barrett, solid NBA role player but no more for now but he is still young (22). Also the NBA and NBA playoffs are like 2 different leagues as well. Playoffs is more like FIBA with more pressure, tougher defense and defensive and more physicality allowed. So players like Murray and Butler are superstars in the playoffs while players like Embid and Donavon Mitchell who are superstars in the regular season are exposed. Mitchell was also the best player on the Team USA that got 7th in FIBA WC 2019, the only Tournament US has lost in the last 7. His game did not carry to the intensity, pressure and physicality of FIBA just how it doesn't translate in the NBA playoffs which I watched first hand as a Knicks fan
@gabepizza
@gabepizza Жыл бұрын
@@jodiwhite1689 Also one more thing I want to add as a Knicks fan..Fournier. While FIBA is tougher to score and more physicality, on the flip side it's easier to play defense with the rules and physicality. In the NBA where you can't be as physical especially on the perimeter and illegal defenses let teams pack the paint the paint (with Gobert for instance) players like Fournier, Rubio and other FIBA greats (talking even about past Europeans greats like Navarro, Jasikevicius and Spanoulis) are a liability on defense as they can't cover the Curry's, Murrays and Tatums one on one. So Founier is amazing in FIBA but on the Knicks he got glued to the bench because of his defensive liability
