The US didn't perform poorly at the last WC because of their squad, it was their coaches that failed to understand the nuances of the FIBA game. Watch their games back. Their offences relied on basic actions whereby FIBA actions are more intracate and actually swing the ball to loosen up the defence. If the US first action didn't eventuate, they relied on iso heavy action which plays into the hands of FIBA defences. As for their defence, there was a disctinct lack of boxing out for rebounds allowing for multiple offensive rebounds for opponents. Also, the coaches failed to impart the ability to utilise allowing players to play split line defence AKA clog the middle and therefore creating space on the inside for FIBA teams to exploit.
@gabepizza6 ай бұрын
also the USA didn't have size. Small ball doesn't work in FIBA like in the NBA as the court doesn't have the spacing and there is no 3 seconds. Yes we sort of won the Olympics with small ball but 1 we had Bam, one of the best defensive centers in the league and 2 with a super team like Durant, Tatum, Lilard, etc...you can out score anyone but it was still close. At the WC our only true centers were Portis and Kessler, role players. Jaren Jackson was exposed as in the NBA he plays PF and has a center like Adams to do the dirty work but he got out muscled by the European bigs. Same with Banchero who is great but again in the NBA he is a 4, he needs a center to to the dirty work. Look at our teams in 2016 (Deandre and Cousins) & 2014 (AD & Cousins with Faried as well) they dominated the front court

@@cokrlicix but I thought the Olympics were the biggest international sports competition, thats the whole point no? Is the World Cup bigger/more important than the Olympic Gold Medal in Football? But okay, according to the FIBA World Cup (World Basketball Championship) stats, The USA have the most overall medals with 12 and the 2nd and 3rd place countries don't even exist anymore. The USA also have the most Gold medals with 5 and the next most successful country that still exists has 2. What now?

I hear ya. The rules are different specially in the physicality of the game. There's no way james will get the calls he's been getting now and have that freethrow discrepancy advantage he's been having. @@redsoxboi1 lol I think coach I I def better than Kerr lol. I don't think Kerr is the best coach on the current team. Eric Spoelatra is better. But I'll say every one of team USA is players are defense capable. Minus maybe Thyrese and Steph. And when they don't have to be the scoring threat on offense they can play that much harder on defense. All our bigs can play d. LeBron in spurts kawhi if he feels like playing. Tatum. Ant and Holiday are elite. Booker and KD can capable as well. I can't wait to watch this!
@redsoxboi16 ай бұрын
@@crzycolchris get ready for a long ass analysis between the coaches lmaooo….. here we go 😬😂😂 coach spoeletra is an amazing coach, it’s funny because I’m a warriors fan since I’m living in the Bay Area for 32 years, but I’m also a Miami heat fan since D-Wade came into the league from Marquette. Was following him since college too. But it’s also hard to tell who’s better in terms of coaching. Kerr won 2 titles without KD, coach spo besides 2006 didn’t win a title without Lebron, Bosh and Wade. BUT I think in terms of making the playoffs Spo did better. When there was an injury to curry, they weren’t able to make the playoffs. Spo Lee the heat to multiple playoffs when their best players were hurt. And sometimes he makes smarter decisions….
