The sift/sieve thing to this day brings me so much joy. My friends have no clue why I can’t help but giggle and have strong opinions on it when I’m reading my cookbooks or studying for one of my cooking classes (especially baking with layton also you). My sister tore me apart for reading your whole cookbook on a plane ride and loosing my shit the whole way laughing

i’m at uni, majoring in music composition and minoring in economics. the minor is so i have something to fall back on, but it’s taking up too much of my time and i’m not pursuing enough music. thank you, this has inspired me to talk to my advisor about dropping econ so i can pursue what i’m passionate about!

I’ll always support the notion of something to fall back on. But I do wish I’d relentlessly chased what I want most sooner, given the something to fall back on hasn’t always brought me comfort and stability!

That last bit feels rather close to my heart too. I've been playing snooker since I was 9 and I'm now 26. I've never expected to turn pro, but have always aimed that way. To say the lows have been extreme is an understatement. Even just listening to you being inspired by something relating to our life inspires me to stay strong and keep going no matter what happens.

Dan, you have no idea how much of an inspiration you are. Even if you believe you are taking the "scenic route" or you are taking longer to get to your goals, you are still going for them. And it's that exact fact that keeps bringing me back to your stuff and keep rooting for you and most importantly, getting inspired by you.

Hi, just wanted to let you know you are one of my favorite people on the internet, and also I think talking about wrestling with your friends on Valentine's day is a *very* exciting life, bc having friends who share your interests and passions is a great rarity for most people, yet you seem to have a life filled with them. So that's a huge win! (Also the way the white nails matched the white jumper of narrator-Dan was just *chef's kiss* magnificent.)

gOD february wasn't a whole month of "stop pursuing your backup plan" for just me? glad to not be alone in that but fuck it's a hard reality to take, especially when i realized i wasn't just pursuing the backup plan, but had lowered down to a second, even less desirable backup. godspeed to anyone else in the process of finding the courage to pursue the things that really matter to you rather than just pursuing a feeling of safety.

I gotta add, whenever I have my rabbit hole spiral down what I might've done, I honestly always think of "The Road You Didn't Take". LInes like "the books I'll never read wouldn't change a thing, would they?" or "the chances that you miss ignore, ignorance is bliss" are so eloquent in capturing how it all feels. Especially so "the Ben I'll never be, who remembers him?" It's bittersweet.

As someone who once had a dream of 'being' an actor i love hearing about the internal struggle of trying to make that happen and what constitutes success. I had two areas of interest in my undergraduate university study and I ended up pursuing the non-acting option (clinical psychology) and I do wonder sometimes about how my life would be different if I genuinely threw myself into pursuing acting. That being said I see many friends who have attempted to make a living in the arts and I see how challenging that has been (especially in Aotearoa New Zealand). Overall I believe my course has been the correct choice for me, partly because I am now finding success in my chosen career path and I am genuinely happy for acting to be a passion/hobby for myself. However I am so excited to continue to watch and support passionate people like yourself pursuing artistic passions because I believe the world is so much better when more art is being created. Sending you the most supportive vibes 💛

Honestly i am lost in knowing what are my goals even? Like, they change daily and its hard to grasp who i even am when i dont know where i want to end up? The only vague daydreams i have seem to be so ludicrous and unachievable, and maybe not even what I want or could do. I am a highly trained academic and a very productive person, so i have felt like i have not ever taken the scenic route. Now im graduating and facing a lot of choises all of a sudden. And now that i would sort of have to learn how to not progress from point a to point b, i am just so lost. :D

Definitely feeling the same about being behind in life as a result of not making enough risks to get to something meaningful but also rejecting the safe so in this odd, overthinkery (not a word) hinterland, I've resided for a long time. My age has constantly dictated how valid I feel and the older I got, the less valid that was. Until the pandemic when I took a step back and recognized all the little achievements and finally, began to stop punishing myself for doing the thing slower than others. This year, I'm back in a slump after moving home and being laid off for the second time in 3 years from jobs I resent. I'm taking it as a sign from the universe to stop taking the safe route. I've enrolled in an MA this autumn and an evenings course in something that should pull me out of the support job cycle, I hope. I'm home only temporarily and want to go back abroad asap but I'm going to take my time and get there in the way that's right for me. I hope you do too. Also, curious to hear your thoughts on Leena's recent video about being priced out of London and the choice of whether to stay or go, when you hit your 30s. If you'd be up to address that somewhere, as someone who loves London as much as you do ☺️

I’m a recently graduated actor working 3 jobs to pay rent and have had MANY crises about what the hell I’m doing - just wanted to say thanks for being so honest about how hard it is! It’s really painful to feel like you’re missing out on an industry that seems easy for other people and you’re the one being forced to consider a back up plan when all you want is to have the chance to do what you love. Finding those moments of gratitude and remembering why I started in the first place has been so important to me. You’ve already got everything you need and fulfilment is on its way to you - thanks for being great☺️

fuckin hell man, that last five minutes knocked me riiiiight on my arse, but in the best way. I'm turning 30 next month and I've wanted to Do Art since I was four, but I've spent so many years (lol typed 'tears' first time round and that was a bIT TOO ON THE NOSE) trying to pad the landing in case I fall that I haven't really started the climb (also down to my choice of degree - I did linguistics instead of anything creative). I don't regret it, because I quite like who I am and the people I'm surrounded by, so I can't regret it, but it's still... heavy. It speaks to a part of my soul that often feels quite isolated to hear somebody around the same age speak about that feeling so eloquently and openly, so, thank you

I graduated in 2020 with a degree in musical theatre and nearly 3 years later am still not sure whether I want to give acting a proper go or not 🙃 most of the time I'm content just doing 'normal' work and then I watch a really good show/film and I'm like DAMN I'd love to do screen acting. I still don't know what to do tbh but this video made me feel a bit more motivated to not give up completely ❤️

Loved this. I’d been so set on studying music at uni right up until I applied, when I chose to study politics as I was afraid of having no prospects if I had a music degree instead. I know it’s unproductive to have regrets so I try not to, but I do regret that a little bit. Now I’m making sure I’m engaging with my passion for music alongside my 9-5 (which is entirely unrelated to politics or music!). I guess it’s all just about seeing what string of events and thoughts leads you to the next place
