Rachel Potter it was originally an Australian millionaire who suggested that young Australians can't afford housing due to exorbitant spending on smashed avo breakfasts - a comment based on the Australian housing crisis. So it is technically an Aussie reference.

I grew up moving around a lot. It's always stressful but it's also a nostalgic thing for me. The last time I moved was because I got divorced, (then fired, fun year) and had to move home. Saying goodbye to my favorite apartment was hard. It was the only place that ever felt like mine. It still didn't feel like home (no where does) but it felt nice. I had never lived anywhere nice. I went back the day after I turned in the keys and it was still unlocked. I walked though each room remembering everything that had happened. Good and bad. I just sat on the floor and cried. There are places that mean something to your story and they never really leave you. Even as simple and meaningless as a home can seem sometimes.

That's such an incredible story. I was walking around our empty flat thinking about everything that had happened there, since the gloriously hot June day we'd first walked in two years prior. The chapters of my story that went on in there were like shadows around me and I couldn't shake off the bizarre feeling all day. You're so right, when things mean something they don't leave.

Dan, about your books: have you thought about donating them? here in Romania we have some people collecting books and vintage objects, selling them and giving 100% of the proceedings to charity. Do you have that sort of thing in England?

I moved house in July as well. Funny story; we lived in a house split into 3 apartments. Our landlady's daughter and son in law lived upstairs. They just had a kid. And they decided they needed half of our apartment because they need space. Thus, spontaneous eviction. A mad 1 month of searching later (we live in Vancouver. FUCK that housing market) we have a new house and moved in!! Plus, my brother is joining us in the new place. Lower rent, better people, nicer house, all from a really terrible event.

Frenchylion1 I see the logic in that, however my pov on stuff like that is: I'll hope for the best and on my way I do everything in my power to enable it to happen. If it happens it's great and I didn't have an awful way there. If it doesn't happen, at least I tried my best and quite frankly, it probably wasn't supposed to happen. There are always better things waiting. I don't think there's like a right or wrong way here, just wanted to share my view. :)

I had to look up which GOT episode you were talking about and oh my god yes I was crying so hard all of that episode, not just because I was sad but the whole thing was so overwhelming and fantastic and horrifying in every capacity. In July I ended the lease on my apartment without anywhere to go. It genuinely felt like I was going to implode with nausea and anxiety. I lived on various friend's couches for about a month and found a new place to live while managing an internship and my own anxiety. July taught me two things 1. I don't need as much as I own and 2. My friends genuinely love me and are willing to help me. Congrats on the new apartment and the move!

I had to move to a new apartment last summer because, well, let's just say "life happened". I love my new place. It has worked out so well. The stress of moving was almost unbearable, but the reward of being in this new place was worth it. Good luck to you in your new place Daniel! :)

The ending of the video resonates so deeply with me, I've moved houses so so so many times but it's always very bittersweet, especially because it always makes me think about where I was in life when I moved to the old house. And the "it'll be alright, because it has to" line stuck with me. I'm going off to uni in just a few days and I'm absolutely terrified. But I know it's going to be ok, because it has to be.
