How can we cut rates if inflation is still 3%.

@@joseaguirre744problem is inflation will go higher, much higher. It's just cheap talk at this point to keep inflation expectations anchored
@joseaguirre744Ай бұрын
@@trappart9209 I’m not sure about that. Most of the inflation we are seeing is because of housing. Even the rate of inflation in housing has been dropping since last year. There isn’t any indication that a .25 or .50 rate cut will bring back roaring prices. The fed does risk a recession whenever it drops the money supply too quickly.
@trappart9209Ай бұрын
@@joseaguirre744 commodities are sky high and Fed soon will start QE (inflation) as always while the economy is weak and dollar is losing it's status as a reserve currency which means Fed has to print more money to buy US obligations

I don't believe the official inflation numbers. This year my rent went up 7%, my health insurance went up 15% and all my other bills went up 10% or more. True inflation is more like 9%. We'd have to have a fed funds rate of 12% to crush inflation. But as long as the government cooks the books we're in trouble. With stock markets and Real estate near all time highs, cutting rates too soon will drive prices higher.

Can't the governments raise taxes on surplus incomes to constrict the money supply the same way the FED uses interest rates to lower money supply?
