Federal 500 siren test Lombard, IL

This was done professionally (despite what some may claim) and is UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES to be attempted for any reason and by anyone without proper training beforehand. Many on site precautions were taken to keep persons clear of all possible danger and as can be seen, we did a good job. No individuals were allowed for any reason within 150 feet of the siren starting when the chainsaw fired up, and the pole was cut in a way that would only allow it to fall in one direction, not to mention the aide of ropes pulling the siren in the wanted direction. The siren is in good hands, is functional, and will be refurbished soon for all to be able to see, as opposed to it rusting away up there and falling in a windstorm and possibly hurting someone or damaging the fence or power lines.

Alright since everyone involved thought it was funny to post his stuff with 0 context, let me do it for them This was intentional and orchestrated by a group of siren enthusiasts. The horn was completely destroyed but the rest of the siren is still structurally secure. A siren enthusiast has obtained the siren and according to them, they will restore it and fabricate a new horn. The reason it was removed in such a manner was due to trees and nearby power lines posing a huge risk to a crane, so using a crane was not an option. EDIT: This was done LEGALLY with permission from the appropriate parties (HOA of the property).

Ok, apparently it was a removal, not a demolition as the crane company didn’t wanna risk it bc of the power lines and trees. To those ppl who still don’t know what happened to the siren, the siren is still fine, just that the horn is smashed. Drew would keep it and refabricate the horn which also means that he might even give it a test run so we have a chance to get to hear it one day. Oh yeah, it is also a 500-SH but with a 9/12 port dual tone chopper, so it technically makes it a 500T

The siren is fine. The town didn't let us hire a crane company due to liability from trees and nearby power lines, they told us we needed to just cut it. A new horn will be fabricated and that's all that's needed at this point. The town told us we could NOT get it down any other way and they wanted us to get it down asap due to the whole pole being rotted. You can say what you want but post refurbishment isn't gonna get better

500s had a rather poor design for their rotator, there was a rubber belt that connected the motor’s pulley to the one attached to the part that rotates (inside the massive box above the plate but beneath the siren’s head). This belt would very commonly break, meaning there was no tension on the head to stay facing a certain direction, allowing it to freely blow in the wind or whatever direction gravity pulled it in the case of one that had a lean like this one did.
