At a news conference in Brampton, Ont., Chrystia Freeland, the deputy prime minister and minister of finance, unveils the federal government's national action plan to combat auto theft. The plan aims to fight rising auto thefts in Canada with a number of measures, including focusing on dismantling and prosecuting organized crime groups involved in auto thefts, more regulation for devices that can be used to steal cars, and increasing the number of shipping containers being inspected when leaving Canada. She is joined by federal ministers Dominic LeBlanc (public safety), Arif Virani (justice), and Kamal Khera (diversity and inclusion and persons with disabilities), Sonia Sidhu (Liberal MP for Brampton South), as well as RCMP Commissioner Mike Duheme and Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown.
