I'm sure one or two were worried about jurisdictional issues moreso than having minimized the seriousness of the respective charges.. When you figure they're State and County judges, they're being asked to detain for the Feds, the defense council can argue standing. In my misspent 20s, I was at my local county jail (I was driving hookers for an escort service) and our sheriff had a Federal unit which was as physically secure as the disciplinary unit, but which afforded all the privileges to well-behaved detainees. We have a Federal court here in Charleston which is where Dylan Roof was given 9 death-penalties.

Bail is a legitimate and necessary process in our criminal justice system. 2) Police or judges were able to confirm mistaken identity and solid alibis for some suspects. The very fact that they crossed state lines makes this a federal case (planned at home, raids are local).. and the crimes were committed in a non-state, so they only have federal courts. Also, it was a federal building. I believe the trials are being done in DC, but they're just being booked in local facilities. It can easily be transferred to federal marshalls.

Don’t want to be voted out, or don’t want to go against locals for fear of retribution, or are afraid the law enforcement officers will not protect them if they need help.
