In this video, Joe Miller, an Ansley resident, shows me the Federal Signal 2T22, a siren that sounds at 6:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM, and 6:00 PM and is used to warn of severe weather and to summon fire-and-rescue personnel when needed. With a total of twenty-two horns (ten on the top and twelve on the bottom,) the Federal Signal 2T22, developed in the 1950's and phased out in the 1990's, is one of the loudest sirens still around. The siren was built originally to be used as a nuclear warning siren during the cold war, but when the cold war thawed out, the 2T22 found other uses as both a tornado warning siren and an alert siren for fire-and-rescue personnel. There is another siren with the same makeup as the 2T22, and it has solenoid shutters that open and close over the siren's air intake ports, thus making a high-low signal. This siren is known as the 3T22.
