I love listening to Boris talk about tennis. Interestingly, in this video instruction on the forehand, although he talks about proper footwork, moving back towards the center of the baseline after hitting the ball, the follow-through and hitting the ball in front, he surprisingly failed to mention transferring your weight forward into the shot. Proper weight transfer into the shot at the moment of impact is so important in tennis (as well as in hitting a baseball in that sport) not just to generate maximum power into the shot, but also to maximize control of the ball. It is also interesting that Boris referred to his forehand grip as a Western forehand, when his forehand grip was actually a semi-western grip. I realize, of course, that he was using the term "western grip" in the generalized sense as an umbrella term comprising both the full-western grip and the semi-western grip. Obviously his forehand grip was not a full-western grip like that utilized by Andres Gomez of Ecuador or Tomas Muster of Austria during their time on the men's pro tennis tour in which their left hands were positioned on the racket handle with the palm and base knuckle of the index finger on the bottom, 6 o'clock panel on the racket handle.
@parasharkchari3 жыл бұрын
The moment he started talking about the kid's forehand, I looked at it and realized that it's very similar to Boris's own forehand motion. The angle and position of the racket when that meandering takeback begins and the big egg-shaped follow-through. That follow-through does back down more, but I suspect that is an inherent effect of having a different grip. If I think to how big or complex the motions got, people like Boris had one where he started taking the racket back very early even while still getting his feet into position, so it looked more complex than it actually was. I feel like Jimmy Connors and Chris Evert had quite possibly the simplest forehand movements, but they also needed to plant their feet into position first in order to get that kind of a stroke.

It's in front but a lot of them are hitting semiopa and you know the deal is it depends on the situation if it's a straight shot you step straight in if you're on the run maybe on Clay it's you're not going to step in the direction of the ball you might hit somebody open towards the sidelines so changes dramatically according to court surface speed of court whether it's Clay

Right when I was playing indoors I do more of a straight back it wouldn't be much of a loop you know small semi circular loop and I was doing real well because they're just isn't time if the courts are super fast but if the courts are slow like clay then you can have a big loop because that's more advantageous for hitting top spit

Boris, i cannot believe that you don't know your own forehand grip. This is very stunning for an expert like you. You never ever used a western grip. You had an eastern grip on your forehand. And you never played with a lot of topspin. What are you talking about. And by the way; the modern players mostly use semiwestern grips and some eastern. Despite your lack of tennis knowledge you were an absolute hero on the court.

Hope my question gets answered. Is a perfect forehand swinging/throwing the racquet along the trajectory of the ball as long as possible while making sure that racquet face is perpendicular to the ground? Of course we decide the trajectory of the ball as the game situation demands! Be it heavy topspin or flat forehand! The windshield wiper motion happens naturally as a result of keeping arm and wrist loose?
@TopLevelTennisOfficial3 жыл бұрын
Hi Parvatha, thank you for the question! Actually, when you keep your arm and wrist loose, you cannot fully control your shot, whether it is a flat or topspin. In some parts of your swing, you have to keep tight your arm or wrist. If you make hundreds of forehands and when you practice your technique, you will not think about it - you will do that automatically. It is what Boris is saying in his whole course - practice, practice, and once again - practice, until you will not have to think about technique while you will make a shot.
@parvathube3 жыл бұрын
@@TopLevelTennisOfficial Thank you for the reply. I will follow your advise
@douglashagan653 жыл бұрын
What I'm thinking about is it's the timing where you take the ball I'm figured out that people take you know the top spin inside their body and then they flick the wrist over that's how the big time guys do it it really is about Jimmy area so they flick the hand over the wrist over the ball when they make contact hitting the ball inside they don't like slice balls that stay low that are wide and angled so there's always a weakness to every technique because something there's a way to counter every action so tennis becomes complicated but we do figure it out by set scores and playing people how well it how effective your technique is

I think it's their ability to mix it up in their tactics it depends how smart you are really I'm going to boils down to it if they know how to disguise their shots and mix it up so the opponent can't read them and that's really it's really intelligence when it boils down to it you got to be able to have a big variety of shots and no one to use them at the right time and that if you see a short ball you got to know whether you know approach shots into the corner and you have to move quickly and get set up and it's all about getting set up quickly and anticipating early

I can never have the foot below my racquet hand behind and follow through. I always use that foot to plant myself and then swing through. Many players like Nadal do this too.
@miguelbarahona66363 жыл бұрын
That´s the open stance. Everybody when using open stance, plants the racket foot first. Even Rod Laver in the 70´s did that way.
@ANGELOFDARKification3 жыл бұрын
@@miguelbarahona6636 It's just confusing because every tennis forehand tutorial on youtube tells you to use the foot opposing the racquet hand to plant, and swing through. So for example, if you are right handed, tutorials will tell you to plant your left and use that as the pivot point when you swing through with your racquet hand and right foot rotating.
