Interview with JMac after wimby 2008 final.
"it hurts" :( sadness.
JMac said after the interview that he could see Roger on the verge of tears so let him go, and apparently heard him crying as he walked away.

Mcenroe's loss against Borg in 1980 had a lot of similarities with that of Federer in 2008, especially because of the fourth sets, so this moment was very meaningful.

One of the things I like most about Roger is that he's not afraid to show in public what his emotions are ... win or lose. He may not be able to treat those 2 imposters the same (triumph + disaster) - but who of us can?

Leave Fed alone! its just normal that he feels emotional. anyone who has put so much hard work yet still wasn't able to win definitely feels the same. i do agree with BlackestEyes1963. Rafa doesn't need a sick fan like you. I am a Federer fan but I still do respect Rafa wholeheartedly. Let's admit it, both of them are really tough players but still, we should remember that in every game, there has to be only one winner.

Gosh seeing Nadal genuinely look back at Federer as he walked away with sadness is pretty touching. They're actually friends off the court which makes the rivalry that much better. Ik some people thought this interview by JMac was kind of dumb but I think he did the best he could, it must have been an awkward situation. You can see that Mac is shaken as Federer walks away, the video cuts off a little bit but you can see Mac's face and how he lets out a deep breath like "wow" when Fed leaves.

I'm sorry, but a player of Fed's talent & genius doesn't 'fall'. Others may close the gap by improving, as Rafa and Djokovic have done...but he will be a serious title contender throughout his career (for years to come) if he stays healthy. That said, my heart goes out to Federer for how much this loss hurt (and kudos to JMac for showing his heart)...but he will be back & victorious again. No doubt about it.

they didn't change the surface to suit any player, they put a new grass on which was more durable for the modern game - (because of the strength of the raquets and the players) the old grass would not have lasted. It just so happens the the ball bounces a little bit slower which makes it easier for base-line players to adapt to it but it's stupid to say that they would change it to suit just one player

Exactly. The bar keeps on getting raised, although its plateauing out about now. Federer and Nadal have raised it so high its no wonder that the commentators have orgasms when they see someone play better than those two. The only difference between great players is how great of a mark they leave. You can never tell how long in between generations it takes for the bar to be raised. In our case, Sampras, Agassi, Federer, Nadal. Very quickly. Perhaps there is a trend, or just a spike.

There will be many more oppunities for federer to win more grandslams, because there are only two players who have high chance to beat roger, they are djokovic and nadal, but I am afraid in the next two years there will be more players who can play the same level as nadal, so it is going to be tough for Roger. Good luck.

nadal is going to be the best tennis player ever, federer was unlucky in his career to have a player like nadal come up, when roger is still in his prime, cuz for a while it looked like roger was destined to be the best to ever play, nadal has taken that from him and thats why federer is so emotional when he loses. its like destiny has taken a new course

It's good to see the best losing and getting their ass kicked. It's a humbling experience and soon or later all champions need it to grow up. When Sampras lost to Federer in 2001 at Wimbledon, after being on the verge of taking the 5th set, he looked so shocked. I was sad then, but in retrospect I enjoy watching that match and seeing Sampras struggling. One's disappointment makes another's joy. Don't forget Nadal enjoyed his win, and that all champions reign come to an end.

Are you kidding???? Do you know how many aces and service wins Fed served against Rafa in the final!!! It's not his serve. Okay..firstly...he cannot loose the 1st set..that's quintessential for him...he carelessly got broken and lost that 1st set..against Rafa...Fed desperately needs it! Secondly, he could do to make use of that backhand slice more to reduce errors on the backhand side. It's actually the little things that reduce his unforced errors and win crucial points for him!

@kyuubiyura You don't have to be so defensive, I'm a Rafa fan and Federer is the greatest. Now this is not set in stone, a matter of fact after this past Aussie open will be a big defining factor in Feds career to see if he has finally fallen out of his prime. If Fed has indeed been "dethroned", and Rafa's knee's are healthy, Rafa will sweep every major without a doubt, leaving the title of g.o.a.t, only a matter of time for Rafa. If Feds just hit a rough patch well, he is still King for now,

If Federer wants to continue dominating everyone, including Nadal, he will have to do something extra. A more explosive serve a la Sampras could help. He probably needs to work on his power and get a real trainer, and we could see the best of Federer ever. But for that he needs the same burning desire and also to stay open minded. The rivalry can only push him to get better as long as he believes he can. Maybe a new girlfriend, some spice and change in his life could also do the trick.
