I wasn't able to use Timeshift on Fedora 35 because of this problem so thank you for the easy to follow solution. But Timeshift really should be more flexible and handle different named sub volumes.

Thank you so much for this video! Are there any downsides to changing name of sub volumes? Will this make problems for updates other things in the future? If so, is there any other way to backup Fedora like Timeshift does? I tried Deja Dup but it only backup my home folder and does not take a snapshot of the whole system. Do any of you guys have any tips on software i can use? Hope to hear from you! - Vegard

I tried changing the root and home volume names like you showed, but it would not let me change root to @, it would just change it back to root each time. Any idea what's going on there? Does changing the name in the fstab file fix it so that Timeshift will work?

ciao Ermanno, thanks a lot for the videos!! You always use VMs but I'd like to ask you: can I install Fedora with btrfs and volume encryption as a dual-boot alongside with Win 11? Will it work? I'm reading about people having headaches later on with upgrades or BIOS settings.... Have you tried this?
@gozzilla782 жыл бұрын
I did the experiment myself, and I can tell anyone what happened. So, I had this machine with Win 11 encrypted with BitLocker on one partition and Mint on the other. I installed Fedora 36 with btrfs and full disk encryption on the partition that was Mint's. After GRUB starts, I need to input my password for encryption of the Linux partition, and everything's well. Unfortunately, however, BitLocker would ask me the recovery key at every single boot. I solved the problem unlocking Windows, and locking it back again with VeraCrypt, whose option for multi-boot machines worked like charm for me. Now after GRUB, both Linux and Win they ask me passwords and things just work.

What are the advantages of timeshift (which is so picky with subvol names) if compared to snapper and snapper-gui, which seem more flexible?
@eflinux2 жыл бұрын
Snapper in my opinion is more complex to configure.
@ChaiBronz2 жыл бұрын
@@eflinux I was wondering about the difference too. Aside from configuration, do they both do the same thing? On Tumbleweed, Snapper is setup out of the box and will take a snapshot before each upgrade. You can also choose a snapshot to boot into from the Grub screen. Does Timeshift do the same?

For those using a non us keyborad: In my case: german keyboard Issue: I can't type the @ symbol to change the subvolume names Solution: Close the Fedora installer --> Settings --> add german keyboard and remove english/US keyboard --> Start Fedora installer again: Press Windows key to access your favorites bar in which the installer is placed Best regards Nejat

Or you can just simply start the partitioning first during the installer so with the us keyboard you can easily typ @ symbol. After the partitioning you can add your preferred keyboard layout :)
