"Parasitic Paramour" what a fantastically apt alliteration for a changeling.
@korpsvart2496 ай бұрын
I like to interpret this in a sad way: chrysalis wants love but has never known any. Given that description of her, moth-eaten and sickly, matted tresses, sharpened teeth, she fears no one will love her, so she takes the form of people you love to feel that love. It feels very bittersweet, like she knows how sad and unfortunate her situation is but does it anyway. The part "i feast on your devotion, dear, your love is all I need" almost sounds like it's about to cry. "All i want is just some love" When she says "me, the changeling succubus, and you the unaware" it's as if she's briefly acknowledging how messed up this is but still wants love so continues

I JUST learned this exists TODAY! My god is it one hell of a dark “love song” that’s actually a villain song from the Changeling Queen’s POV! It starts off so sweet, but then it goes into just how dark the idea of “feeding off of love” really is.
@VermillionHellsing6 жыл бұрын
I adore the double-meaning behind the lyrics! I've noticed in so many songs how you cleverly interweave a direct story - in this case a succubus literally posing as someone's lover and feasting on their affection - and an indirect, metaphorical one: a sociopathic abuser under a charismatic facade who shows their true colors over time and leaves their partner emotionally ruined in the end. It makes the content of your music so relatable, even with the most fantastical of concepts. Everything about this song is fantastically creepy, but the lyrics are what really won me over!
@dominusalicorn36846 жыл бұрын
Well, a sociopathic abuser I think is kind of the point of a changeling in the first place. Some writers are just able to put it in words a bit more eloquently than others. That said, I have to be one of the few to criticize this piece for not striking a cord with me like so many other songs from ponyphonic. Maybe it was simplistic, certain lyrics too on-the-nose, or even the singing itself, but something about it makes it so I'm not returning to it. Lullaby, Moon Rises, Shy Heart... I'll take those any day.
@EleanorTopsie6 жыл бұрын
I thought the same, I think whats really great about the lyrics is that you can still enjoy the song without knowing in what context it stands with the love-devouring changelings. You could make a whole animatic relating the song to an entirely different abusive character and it would still fit perfectly!
@VermillionHellsing6 жыл бұрын
@@EleanorTopsie The wordplay really is amazing in that regard. It's true that the Changelings in themselves already do draw parallels to abusive relationships, but *cough* unlike a certain commenter *cough* I feel that the spin that these lyrics take on that concept is insanely clever - I love the imagery of a person's charisma being a mere mask to hide their true monstrous nature. And I've actually been planning on making an animatic with just that concept in mind!...approximately someday. :'D

This is 100% a villain song and I’m in love with it. It has all the haunting charm one would expect from an antagonist, what with the sugar coated threats and double meaning behind the lyrics (that in my opinion is up there with Alan Menken and Howard Ashman‘s music). Bravo.

Instant classic, in my opinion. The lyrics are so suave and clever, yet incredibly disturbing, even trance-like at times. It really feels as though every syllable is designed for seduction, akin to the likes of "Trust in Me." The way in which the sound layers are blended really achieves the changeling feel, and not only that, it is incredibly pleasing to the ear. Wonderful mixing. A very creepy, but very, very lovely masterpiece. Well done, Ponyphonic! Brilliant as always!

This is a beautiful piece of music. It is so sophisticated and ethereal and wonderfully creepy. And the vocals are just gorgeous! It’s really nice and always just so interesting to hear a male voice singing a female’s character (and vice-versa!). The lyrics are perfect too. But I think my favorite thing about it is that while this song is MLP themed, it can also be taken out of context without having any ties to the fandom at all. If I didn’t know it was MLP themed, I would listen and wonder about the lyrics without ever thinking it was a fan piece. That was a cool lyrical choice. I enjoy it because fans can love it for what it is, while others who don’t know/aren’t a part of the fandom can enjoy it for completely different reasons. Truly an amazing piece, expertly done!
@BlindStarLily Жыл бұрын
It kind of feels like all of their music is like that, y’know? Up until the description, IE, “Moth eaten, sickly, matted tresses, sharpened teeth. Slitted eyes of green and charcoal skin,” I didn’t even realize the song was MLP themed. I at first assumed it was just in relation to the Irish changelings since that’s how I found it in the first place. It’s cool too because that creepy description gave me inspiration for a character I’m currently working on based in Irish folklore who’s half changeling.

@QuelendUnderground Жыл бұрын
Even just the first lines really hammer in that the victims 'partner' isn't what they seem to be. "Missing? Goodness no, I have been right here all along." Can either be interpreted as Chrysalis misunderstanding the 'I've missed you' that the victim may have said when they saw who they thought was their lover, which she would've understood correctly had she known how ponies possibly could care for eachother to the point where maybe just being apart for some time would cause them to 'miss' eachother. Or it could be interpreted as chrysalis brushing off that the pony she have chosen may have been missing for a few days, probably because they were killed or something similar, and now she's trying to gaslight the victim into believing nothing could ever have been wrong in the first place. Very cool.

This is a beautiful song, and I just shared the link to it the other day, and stated that I love villains. I think the guy I was working towards dating completely misinterpreted my intentions and likely assumed it was a dig at him, which it wasn’t at all. But this was just after I was unable to meet up with him due to something beyond my control at work. He completely ghosted after claiming previously he wouldn’t do such things. It got to me for a few hours, but you know what? I’m glad he showed his true colors early on instead of down the road. Didn’t say a word to me, just blocked across the board. I started to type out a text, saying I don’t know what I did, but before sending it, I decided no. Screw him. If he’s going to be like that, he doesn’t deserve a moment more of my time. He could have talked to me, like a mature adult. He chose to make assumptions. I’m gonna keep right on living and enjoying my life without skipping a beat. If he chooses to reach out to me again, it will be me who gives silence and a cold shoulder this time. You don’t get a second chance to hurt me. Love and respect yourself ladies and gentlemen.
