After they get used to feeding they will perk up. It took me a few months of hand feeding but now my tiger can stand on his hind legs without needing the glass when he's hungry. He props himself on his log and uses his tail to stand up, its quite the ridiculous sight.

It's so funny seeing a salamander that can fit a finger in its mouth tbh. I have a Pacific long toed salamander my dad found in a warehouse dustbin and he tries constantly to eat my fingers but he's too small so he bounces right off! My first sally was also a long toed and he did the same. They're like little gluttons tbh

While I had named my late tiger salamander Hobbes, there were times when I called him "Kung Fu Piggy" for his tendency to leap up unexpectedly and attack anything above him. He was the most vicious animal I ever owned. He ate almost everything, but the only things he didn't approve of were red worms (he literally wretched for several minutes after trying one) and those awful "dry" crickets found in reptile dry food mixes.
