You will need to use the expansion box for the productive bees to use the upgrades. The Expantion box will also let you put in two more bees in the beehive. Also with bees you will want to crouch and right click the bee cage on the hive. This will set their home to that hive.

there might be a mod in this that adds something called a "trowel" The reason why this is interesting, is because this item can be used to randomly place down any block that are on your hot bar, rather than manually mix and matching

Actually there is a replacement trowel in the pack, does the same job, it’s from Utilitarian mod. But yep, original idea afaik from one of the greatest qol mods, Quark. Best.

Sturdy bee cage -> only available through villager trade (bee hive) or find it (or quest) Bee hive: Expansion box is used for the upgrades, without it, no upgrades.

You need the expansion box on advanced hives in order to put the upgrades in there. Then you’ll be able to fit five bees in each hive rather than three. Your best best is to get a couple of leaves from the tree you’re trying to hybrid (dark oak and jungle right now) clip them with shears and put right beside the advanced hive with a flower. Then you’ll easily see the leaf is pollinated, you probably have some now but they’re hidden in the tree, perhaps on top. Also, get poppies from your iron farm and start breeding the vanilla bees every time you walk past. The productive bees you’ve caught, pop those in bee cages and stick in a chest, you’ll need them soon but for now you’re just risking they fly away or get harmed, then some time you’ll need a mason or zombee and you’ll be looking for him but he’s lost and needs replacing. A glass roof over your apiary would be a good idea for sure. Or you might make it more like an arbour, do the whole thing in leaves, swapping them out occasionally. But if you want to leave it open to the sky then work towards simulator upgrades so the bees stay inside the hives all day, put a feeding slab in front with a flower in it, add a range card and put leaves you want to pollinate around the hives. You’ll be getting productive trees very quickly. Some of them have really nice wood. If you can breed a yellow and a green carpenter bee together you can get a lumber bee, they’ll be great to have, they put logs in the hive rather than combs, duplicating logs they’ve pollinated from.

Hello sjin! There's a tip i would like to give you. Which is... Im really really sorry to say that you were a fool all this time. Don't craft stairs in the crafting tabble. It's a 6:4 ratio. Instead, what you should totally do is to craft a vanilla stonecutter and there you have it! It's a 1:1 ratio and you'll be saving soo many resources...

11:50 Just so everyone knows: you can't actually make Sturdy Bee Cages. You have to find them in dungeon loot or get them from Quests. Thankfully, you don't really need a lot of them. The regular, single-use cages work well enough to get going.

On the main question for Productive Bee's, the quest southeast of the Advanced Beehive quest is the Expansion Box which attaches to the Advanced Beehive. The Expansion Box holds the upgrades. But if you mouse over an upgrade you will see which upgrades are compatible with which block i.e. Range Upgrade does not work on Advanced Beehive, it only works on the Catcher for catching specific bee breeds and age. You right click the Filter Upgrade on the bee you want the catcher to catch, and you use the Range Upgrade to increase the range of the catcher block.

The bee upgrades isn't actually a bug when it comes to functionallity but is actually a visual bug unfortunately. There is a slot for a single beehive upgrade without having to use a hive expansion but it blends into the background of the GUI. Its actually in the bottom center (in the gap below the bottle slot). When you attach a hive expansion to the advanced hive, the GUI shape changes and means that the upgrade slots are easy to see

I would love to see a greenhouse and finally a furnished house :D You´re still missing a bedroom, a living room, a parlor, maybe a library and if you want to get into cooking - how about more than one kitchen? These cooking mods all have different blocks to cook with and one kitchen will get stuffed with all of them quickly. But you need more space for the crops then - hence the greenhouse!

I think for the productive bees you need to shift right click when releasing from the cages to reset their hives.

DISAPPEARING BEES?!? I have some answers :) Several types of bees, such as the Carpenter and Mining bees, will NOT live inside beehives - you'll need to harvest bee NESTS from around the world for them, or they'll just fly away to find a nest. You can also put down the nests and apply honey treats to attract the bees that live in them (i.e. get a stone nest, place it near stone and/or ores, right-click with a treat, and wait for a mining bee to spawn). Most productive bees will need blocks of whatever material they produce nearby, or they might just starve to death - flowers won't always work! There should be a book for productive bees that gives you all the info you need for every type of bee (how to breed them, where to find them, what blocks they need nearby, special needs like darkness levels, etc.). Definitely look up the bees you catch before releasing them to make sure you have what they need. To reiterate what others have said: shift+right click a hive with a bee cage to lock that hive as its home (I don't think it works with nests); you need expansions for the advanced hives (the quest log is not very clear for some reason - you need that book!); DON'T FORGET TO STORE YOUR EXP!!!!!

The problem with making the guards is that they need food, so you need to set up food production for them. On top of that, basic guards are really weak, so you need the university to research upgrades for them. I think you would be better off finding a different way of defending the farm. Perhaps try Security Craft´s turrets or something like it?

Bees wandering away is a vanilla issue, which they've fixed a bit in the last update. Sadly probably not applicable to current mods. For this reason you absolutely want a bee house, or you need to purge your whole area of flowers, flowering leaves, etc. I think Productive Bees prefer nests (holes in logs or stone or grass)? Check your storage - I got tons just from farming wood. Its the regular blocks that weirdly dont stack 😊
