the timing is immaculate, as ive been squatting and mosquito hunting so much lately just for my new male betta, hes very active and silly and has a great appetite compared to any other betta ive ever had not the best luck though, my parents anti-mosquito methods have been abit too effective

I have fed mosquito larvae to my bettas. But, I have either lost or struggled to save them after they all got fin rot regardless of how clean the tank was. I got many from Thailand or Cambodia. When I was in Bangkok I bought a bag of larvae every week. The fish were so healthy. But, here in Texas, this practice has cost me much $, time and, ultimately, many fish

I’ve been thinking about this one. So first and foremost I too have lost a lot. I learned later to try these fish one at a time because these mistakes will take out all 5 if you get 5 (unlike something like guppies where more guppies just means more chances). I can only assume the difference is the water. Are you using tap? My water comes out of the faucet in the middle of summer at about 90° even at night time and the nitrates are always at least 100 ppm. I use a large clean trashcan with a sponge filter and Pothos roots to age the water at least 24 hours. Another thing my area will flush the entire system out with chloramine and you’ll be testing the tapwater and explicitly the ammonia levels will be through the roof 4 times a year. Effectively Russian roulette for your fish. Crushed coral to gather KH and keep that PH steady. I’ll write more if I think of more.

@@BrentonsFish I have a spring on my property. I use it or rain water. Never a first rain, I have a metal roof. So, in a heavy rain, after about an hour, I will collect rain water. I even raised the larvae in a clean 5 gallon bucket that I put some old leaves in to start enough algae for the larvae to eat I know that I am introducing something that starts fin rot. And horrible fun rot. No treatment, medicine, water changing rituals... It takes them down so quickly that I can almost watch them die. They hate pellets, but I have unintentionally killed so many, if I ever break down and buy another, I will only give them frozen food. They live the hunt, but I just don't want to ever kill another one But, I love the pothos. It may give the water qualities that will strengthen the immune system. I did a black water tank one time, used the almond leaves ... 🫤

I’ve recently had a betta seem sick and comeback with polyguard. It’s a seachem medicine mixture with malachite green - seems like a higher success rate than other methods I’ve used in the past. Using this thread as a betta fact depository for future videos.

My last 4 males decided that velvet was something fun to do while we were on vacation. I saved a couple, but they didn't have the life span that they should have. They just never fully recovered. Sad. I'll get more in the future, but only after I've cultivated my live foods and I'm going to go with wild caught bettas.

This is awesome! But I cant really access most of this food for my fish :( I do feed her the betta pro pellets' what should I do? I give her like 3 or 4 pellets a day.

Hello, frozen bloodworms completely thawed at room temp (wear gloves when handling bloodworms) or last resort fluval bug bites. I would even presoak them but may not be necessary. Food cultures are easier to care for than the fish themselves if you ever think of doing it. I’m growing green water for daphnia and brine but all the worms and scuds will eat fish food. You could also check the ingredient list in the back of your pellets and find the plant material, I wasn’t sure what brand so I could look up the label.

Loaded with veggies! I’d say fluval bug bites if you wanna do dry food. They have a betta formula but even the original only lists potato and wheat as the last two ingredients.
