Feeder Fishing For Big River Chub On the River Ribble Tickled Trout Stretch
After a successful session on this stretch. Couple of weeks prior I was eager to give it another go targeting those big river chub. My dad was also keen to bag himself a couple after seeing my fish. So with the weather conditions looking wet but mild we set out to give it a go.
The video includes information about the stretch and a brief run through of the bait and gear I’m using. There are more detailed videos of my river setup on the channel if that’s what you want to see to be sure to give those a watch.

Enjoyed the video. I fished the Tickle Trout section with my Dad about 50 years ago! We both blanked that day mainly because we didn’t have a clue what we were doing. We were mainly canal and pond fishermen so river fishing was alien to us. Might try it again with my grandson when the weather gets a little warmer. Great to see your Dad out again

Great video as usual Westy, teaching your Dad how to River fish 😛. I use Bought myself 2 Guru Barbel rods which are excellent. I would contact Greys for there comments on why there tips are failing Westy.

Excellent video yet again Westy..I know the stretch you are fishing but have never fished the pegs you and your dad were on..I will definitely be giving this a session or two..some lovely chub in the 3/4lb bracket caught at distance too.. I can recommend the Korum Barbel rods if on a cheaper budget as for the money they are Excellent,also the Shimano X3 Purist barbel if you want to spend a bit more,lovely rods..I have also thought about the Preston Monster Xtreme Distance feeder rods in 12ft 6in or 13ft 2in which are an excellent long range rod and capable of casting 4/5oz feeders..lastly I believe the Guru N-Guage Specimen Barbel rods which for the money are meant to be very highly rated although I've not actually seen these,only read the reviews online..keep up the fantastic content and a very merry Christmas to you and your family..Tight lines! 😃🎣

looks like a cracking session Gutted all that money spent for fragile rods, glad you're going for Korum, I find them great. I'm feeling that you and Papa West will catch Barbel in River Ribble any time soon, maybe look for weirs as Barbel likes to be in flowing water.

My stomping ground I had a nice December chub the other day always fishing well the ribble, get some spicy sausage leaking dumbbells and cheesy garlic too they cant resist them

Some lovely chub. Just find tips are all easy to snap if u miss it snagging on an eye, plenty of generic tips carbon and glass that fit numerous other rod makes, if they are tight use a bit of wet n dry.

Not a bad session for winter .Shame about the rod I tend to use my J wilson rod for river barbel Mind you it is over 20 years old But they have released another J wilson rod Which I think is very similar

Westy, check out the 12ft Korum Omega rods currently on offer at AD. I use the standard Korum barbel 2lb tc and been happy with them.

Have you tried a size 8 circle hook?They hook Chub better because of their big mouths. Obviously smaller hooks are better for the barbel.

Great video Westy, Can i ask, when you're fishing this method why do you have the rods pointing up in the air when other times you have your rod tip nearly in the water.

When river fishing on big powerful rivers like the Ribble you want as little line in the water as possible. Because a lot of branches and debris come down river 👌🏻 so having the tips high and the line going direct to the feeder you have less chance of getting taken out by a branch or debris collecting on the line and dislodging the feeder.

@@WestysAngling Also this method allows you to fish with a lighter feeder or lead. As there is less line in the water .you have less resistance on the line from the flow. You can also let out a bow in your line which also helps.

Air pressure = if they feed. Temp = where they feed. Bait, location & time = what and when they feed. Watercraft means nothing if fish ain't feeding buddy. Keep eyes on air pressure 👀🎣

You didn't find the fish,the fish found you because of your bed of hemp and ground bait.Balls of groundbait upstream get followed over where your cage feeder is.

Wouldn't use maggots there ,,,it's full of minnows and dace that attack any small baits ,,try a hair rigged pepperrama hot meat very tuff stays on hook ages ,,,I went to fish in once in the 90 s and the river was as high as the tickled trout roof 😮

Korum 1.75 barbel rods had mine 2 years never had a problem
