Enjoying your videos, Tarantula Kat! Thanks for some insights into looking after ts, it's helped me a lot in getting started in the hobby myself for about a year now. I believe my B. Albopilosum, or I suppose at the time of writing this it's now T. Albopilosum, is a Nicaraguan form. I named him Cousin It for the long hairs. :P Certainly when I've been feeding him or sorting out his enclosure to suit his needs, he's had a feisty attitude to him. I find him unpredictable, and though I certainly don't consider myself ever being arachnophobic in the past, he does give me the fear half the time. :P

Can someone tell me, why this is the case? Why can't you have them!
@-yeme-5 жыл бұрын
@@DM-bv9uh Its to protect Australian wildlife. Australia has been isolated from all other land masses for ~100 million years. Thats why all their land animals are so weird and why theyre unique to Australia, and why they dont have any of the same native land animals that other continents do. Their native animals all evolved in isolation there. Since Westerners arrived ~300 years ago they have been bringing with them animals from the rest of the world, both on purpose and unintentionally, and a large percentage of those new animals had serious effects on Australia's native wildlife. Things like rats and mice but also cats, a kind of poisonous toad, and a whole bunch of others have done serious damage and caused extinctions of entire Australian species, and driven other species close to extinction. So now Australia is super strict about importing foreign species, and even stuff like goods made out of natural materials which might have foreign insects hiding inside etc, is all very tightly controlled. Their biosecurity is the strictest in the world along with New Zealand, which has basically the same issues.

@tarantulakat5 жыл бұрын
a lot of people will say differently, but i usually consider them juveniles when they're closely resembling what they'll look like as an adult but still not mature. Say a G porteri, I would call it a sling until it was 2 in around

The Curly Hair tarantula is Brachypelma albopilosum. There are two forms, or varieties, of this species available. The hobby form is the type which has been available as a pet for many years. Its uncertain what the exact origins of this type is, some people think its a hybrid which arose in the pet trade, some people think its just a regional variety. The other type is the wild, or Nicaraguan form. This entered the pet trade much more recently, just a few years ago, and is representative of the Brachypelma albopilosum spiders living in the wild in Nicaragua. The Nicaraguan form has more, longer and whiter hairs covering its legs and body. Good breeders and sellers will always specify what type of albopilosum they have, either "Hobby Form" or "Nicaraguan". Because of the uncertainty over the origins of the Hobby Form, those spiders should not be bred with the Nicaraguan form. Kat's B albopilosum Nicaragua is the spider @ 8:30
