I'm always interested to see what the names of the spiders are. I try to guess what they mean from what I know of classical roots. (Sometimes not even Google can fish out the meaning of a name, which is frustrating.) The names must be hell to pronounce for people who were taught to read by the "whole language" method.

I live down the shore full time. So of course they’re sold on the boardwalk, and nobody knows how to care for them. Then they freak out when the crab is running with no shell. I used a sponge for water. But as you said. I was a kid. When I started to work at my shore shore I wanted a nautical beach theme (cliche af I know!) but I got a tank with seahorses…. I love them they’re amazing! But yeah people would call and say the crab is out of its shell. I said you can come get a bigger shell. No charge of course we always have them take an extra shell. Not sure why they didn’t. I don’t remember seeing them. So usually to me when a hermit crab is running around with no shell - that’s not a good sign. And a bigger shell won’t matter. But mine lived 6 years! If I’m being serious I was like omg I’m gonna leave for the military and be like oh I miss my hermit crab 😬

I read a short story about these as a kid and wanted one so bad. When I was in my late teens I did all the research - heat pad, substrate, water dish, tank - and then after spending like $100 something dollars in 2000s money I didnt end up getting any cause I was still to worried. One day I might revisit but tank pets really need a lot more care and if you arent ready dont take the plunge. Still so much fun to see others enjoying them

I currently have a Desert Hairy and a baby Asian Forest. I’d love to get one of those flat rock scorpions, along with a native eastern stripeless scorpion.

I’m 3 months in and already am up to 13 spiders, 2 scorpions. It’s very addicting. I don’t know what I’m gonna do when they get bigger.

Do you keep your spider room at any specific temp? I keep my home around 68 in the winter, and I worry it's a bit too cold for my bugz.

There's one tourist shop in Orange Beach that shows proper care and housing and their hermit crabs are frisky and entertaining. And they stress those small plastic containers are for travel only. 😊 they also have a few permanent friends just to show how big they can get and how long they can live. It's a pretty cool display/habitat

Way to small enclosures typical americans. Hiw would you feel that your world is a small 25x25cm box? Even outside better life animals are not for boxes dosent matter if spider or fish or anything.

I've had a Mexican Copperhead for a few years now and mine comes out to eat and roams for a few months and then I don't see it for about 6 months and it refuses to eat. Lol. But it's so cute because it has a heart on the booty. But yeah...definitely goes on hunger strikes for months. Which mine currently is doing. 😅

Yeah my hermit crab was in the same container with the flip top lid but in the 80s not the 90s I think we’re around 10 years apart It’s been about 35 years and I still remember what their food smells like💯😂

I known how neglected hermit crabs are I’ve only had one in my life and that was in the 80s as a little kid but I’ve always done research on anything I’m interested in especially animals I’ve been watching animal documentaries since I was old enough to sit up and grab the TV remote💯
