Very interesting video! As I'm learning about the horse digestive system it seems like keeping horses in stalls all the time or most of the time and giving them lot's of grain and little hay is really one of the worst think you can do but it's unfortunatly the norm where I live. Your system on the other hand checks off all the right boxs! Do you bring your horses in at night? And how do you manage the different dietery need of different horses?

Very interesting video. Being from Texas , always wondered about grass growth in Canada.. perhaps in the future you could do a grass growth video... I've seen some Canadian grass seed for sale online...👍

Yes our grass season is short

It would be interesting to see a diagram of your pasture set-up. It appears like you have a squared-off figure 8 that they can in, with grass pastures in the middle of the circles in the 8, plus some other grass pastures along with the one side of the 8. The non-grassy figure 8 leads them up to the barn and arena, which are up on the hill. Is that an accurate way of describing it?

Yes that is pretty much what they have.... a diagram is a good idea

I love your pasture setup ♥u♥ Do some of your horses live outside along with run-in-sheds too or do they all have their own stalls?

Is there any issues with putting the hay on the ground? Should it be put on a mat or something?

If it's not muddy or sandy no issue

Very neat hay feeding routine. I love the track setup. Great way to preserve your pasture. Isn't it wastefull though? And isn't eating the longer more fiberous hay better for their digestion? Won't they ingest sand/soil if they eat off the ground like that?
@HarmonyHorsemanship4 жыл бұрын
Great questions.... they also waste parts of the round bale.... using a net would help. But nets are tricky for other reasons. They dont really eat the sand
@plantsbatsandcats4 жыл бұрын
I‘d be worried about that too. If you have a sandy dry soil climate I would not advise feeding them on the ground. Use ground level feeders that are at least 1-2 inches off the ground to lessen that dirt ingestion. If you have a thicker wetter soil quality your less likely to have that ingestion of sand. How you feed your horses really depends on the area you live in.

I thought of sand of sand colic as soon as I saw ground feeding.

With this system how do you deliver supplements to horses that need them? Do you have smaller stalls set up where they can eat them then go back out with everyone else?
@HarmonyHorsemanship4 жыл бұрын
I have a barn to feed grain and supplements.... this is just for hay

not everyone has a husband with a tractor or loads of horses. What about if you just have one horse and no farmer man?

We didn't used to have one either... super pain and had to pull bales with our pick up truck and roll them. Not fun.

If you have one horse thats easy... you just toss the hay out

@Harmony Horsemanship I admire your patient & kind response to snarky remarky Daisy. I doubt you'd be buying a roll or large cube with only one horse anyway. So that feeding scenario wouldn't be applicable, and with just one horse, keeping it off the main field to maintain grass wouldn't be as big of an issue. Man, I need to grow some thick skin & start praying for patience if I ever hope to have a YT channel that has a larger following. Congrats on making your dreams a reality and taking us viewers along for the journey. I just subscribed. Great idea for winter feeding & preserving the grassy fields. We are learning to work with what we've got until the Lord provides finances for "upgrades." It's harder on us physically because it took us longer to make our dreams a reality-lots more aches & pains over 50. You guys started at a great age, your child(ren) will enjoy & reap the benefits of growing up on a farm.

@RapperFacts Ever heard, "If you can't say something nice, say nothing at all"? The shoe definitely fits. ALL of us were newbies (greenies) at some point. The important thing is his willingness to try. Never laugh at someone else's expense, less if you fail, you end up without any cents(sense). -Me
