Hi frank First of all, after 3 years of trying to beat my friend who flies 6 miles shorter I finally beat him by 2 minutes. That’s 8 minutes in total. I was using your system. The confusing part is that I’ve seen couple of your videos that shows different way of feeding. The system I used was 100% barley all week and Friday basketing I fed race mix and fats. But I’ve noticed that Quintero has put a video up of your system with 80% barley and 20% race mix with 100% barley on rest days . But after watching this your feeding depurative all week and race mix on basketing. Last week I fed 80% barley and 20% race mix all week and 100% race mix and fats on basketing. We raced 163 miles and velocity was 1396 , we don’t live on the racing line but fantastic results.

Congratulations on great results and you are now seeing the speed pigeons with proper body weight can fly. Fat pigeons are slow pigeons. Your system is close to what I do and will certainly work for short distance. Please email me and I will send you a very simple system to follow. You cannot make a mistake and many around the world dominate feeding like what I will email. Frank@McLaughlinLofts.com

Hey John, If you can get Safflower and add 20% safflower to the mix it will be a great feed. You can also use a combination of fat seeds for the 20% like some hemp, safflower, sunflower which is better than maize or milo or even peas.

If I bird comes late I will feed the rich seeds for at least a day. I lock my hens out in the aviary each day. I can keep any late comers inside and feed the rich feed to help them recover without feeding the team the rich feed. Usually any tired or late pigeon will get one day of all the rich feed all the want before going back to this feeding system.

Hi Kevin, I suggest training only on the best days and give a day off if the young fly close to an hour. You are trying to educate them without taking too much out of them. Go slow and make sure you build a few rest days in each week. You can get more serious right close to the first race.

That is the measurement for the race team celibate hens for depurative or the barley mix. Remember you cannot feed like this if you work the pigeons hard. My pigeons race, toss on Tuesday and toss on Thursday with no loft flying. They are out of the loft only three times per week. This season, many weeks they flew the race, had one 60 mile toss and raced again.

hi frank its ali from scotland , very interesting and you are right , congrats on your combine win , what area does your combine cover and how many birds were in the race ? i remember one of biggest mistakes i made all those years ago was overfeeding , it messes them up , . i am still trying to find good place to get started , it tough to find coz i cant buy , houses are to expensive , but i am working on ways to do it , i will get some where with big garden as i can , its been 35 years since i had pigeons , i really miss having them . good luck for rest of season , i think we having our first national race next week ,its not channel race ,by that i mean over channel from france which is 500 miles to here , this is races i prefer . though i was really happy to win from 360 miles at a fast velocity and that little chec hen 4 weeks later nearly won from 500 , we had a clock problem , it was given 160 th i think, never forget theses birds ,

Hello Ali, It will be fun when you find the right place to race. Maybe you partner with an existing fancier that does not have time to compete successfully. He may have everything set up. You are lucky to compete in such a competitive part of the world. Years ago I competed against 200 lofts and 3000 birds weekly so I could work on being the best. Now the numbers keep dropping and we may have 60 plus lofts and 600 to 800 birds. On may 507 mile win the members were fearing the headwinds and we only had four clubs ship around 440 birds and under 50 lofts. Sad to see this.

@alihogarth3213 Жыл бұрын
yes frank i am also very sad about this ,.i get information from a local very good fancier , i know there is big problem with losses and hawks, i think a lot of it is to do with money , small man cant compete with that , . i was in midlothian federation , sending 5000 to 8000 each week , when i had to give up , i was hearing lot guys saying they cant afford it . i heard they only sent 3or 400 hundred birds to a national race last year . yes i was thinking same thing about going into partnership , also there maybe someeone who really wants to start but doesnt have the time but has a big property , i have the time and i can build a loft any size no problem , i built many lofts when i was young, if i cant get a place this year ,i will look at other ways , ok take care

No positive on the grams. Do you have an empty pickpot to use to measure? I use the Versele Laga Pick Pot. When you swap to the barley it will take a few days for them to become calorie restricted. In four days they will be eating like crazy.

@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons Жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, That is a tough one. I suggest not to overfeed on an overnight race. I also suggest two small meals the day of shipping to encourage the pigeons to drink. It is also wise to teach the pigeons to drink on the truck. All trucks should water before liberation. It is worth having a basket like is used on the truck. You can teach your pigeons to eat and drink while in this basket. Setting up a very similar trough so the pigeons are comfortable eating and drinking while in this basket. You can put ten or so young at a time and feed and water in the basket for several days. They will be okay after that.
