i heard about people who made a mix of dried and crushed leeves, from plants he could get outside. he would get a couple different plants, dried and powder it. add powdered duckweed and small brine shrimp. he would add water to it and freeze it, making tiny foody ice cubes for shrimp, its free and seemed really balanced.

I went out collecting nettle leaves for my shrimp and I learned one lesson. Use THICK gloves unless you want to get stung. I collected quite a haul, blanched them and froze them in ice cube trays with water. My shrimp go absolutely mad for it.

Today I bought 23 shrimp locally for my community tank, and I can't stop gazing at them! Made a couple of piles of porous rocks for them to hide and lay eggs, hope they'll figure it out. They don't miss any minute of eating algae all around the tank! Thanks for providing all the necessary information

They don't lay eggs as such. The "berried" female carries them around for around 30 days then releases the young shrimp.

I can confirm, shrimp go wild for the nettles. They’ve been eating it for about 18 hours straight it seems. And here I was buying them expensive shrimp cuisine

Well this takes me back many years to growing up in England. I was forever getting stung by nettles.. we used to rub dock leaves (always conveniently growing close) onto the sting to make it better. Alas I don’t think Australia has nettles.

I've only been keeping cherry shrimp for a little over a month, so I already know they will eat up dried leaves, but I didn't know I could give them fresh leaves. I don't have that kind of nettle here, but I wonder if they would love some fresh grape leaves the same way, if I pour some boiling water on them to soften them up a bit first?

Can Amano shrimp and cherry shrimp crossbreed ??! Because I have 1 male amano and 8 female red and yellow combined and within four months my tank is filled with baby shrimps. Most look like amano and some have the red pigment with them I thought Amano shrimps need brackish water to grow

No, they can’t crossbreed, they are different species of shrimp👍🏻

Amazing! Quick question for anyone to answer, I hope to breed some shrimp and guppies in outdoor tubs this summer. I know that both cherry shrimp and baby guppies require calcium to grow, so what do you think of using calcium dust/supplements (used in the reptile hobby) along with the food I feed in order to keep them healthy? Do you think it would be beneficial for them?

I am not sure if it dissolves in the water and becomes usable. Is your water especially low in calcium?

@@FishKeepingAnswers Fair point. I will do research into it. I meant more dipping the food (either pellets or even bloodworm) or dusting the food with the calcium before feeding, and hoping they will ingest them together. My water is rather low in calcium, hence why I am trying to find ways around it

@@clairejackson7809 I don’t think adding the calcium to the food (like you might dust crickets for geckos) would work. You could try adding crushed coral to the water. As that dissolves it adds calcium to the water 👍🏻
