Hi Kenny, once again thank you for all these videos. Very useful. Regarding charging gor doing a scan FOC, my local shop charged me £60 to scan my Audi A4 V6 Turbo Diesel. The result they gave me shocked me. They told me my injectors needed replacing at £200 each plus labour a total of over £2000. The problem I had was the glow plug light on the dash board flashed intermittently and switched off the cruise control. I took the car to a Diesel specialist and he scanned it, at no charge, and said the brake light switch was faulty. The cost of a new switch was £7.50 and took me 10 minutes to fit. The fault was cured. It pays to use a specialist like you.

This is the exact same way we run our business. We're not a repair shop. If we can save the customer money we do it. That's way better than we've seen our colleagues do. We do come in after hours to help customers, and it has been noted by our area supervisor, the regional supervisor and the Arizona corporate office. They like the way we take care of our customers and their equipment. And we have been rewarded with tears from customers, hand breaking handshakes, and thank you's that we still remember. All because we have walked in the customers shoes at some time in the last 60-some-odd years of our lives.

Actually, there is wax in the T-stat that expands to open it when hot, and the spring closes it when it cools. Love your show. It's like watching your favorite uncle work on your car.

About 15 years ago I found a local body shop that does rust proofing. They fixed a non functional inner door handle for free. They pulled the door card off, a rod had fallen off, and I hadn't gotten around to fixing it. I immediately brought them a box of donuts, and have been going there for annual rustproofing ever since.

Good deal Nice of you and the shop to do that for her. I hate the dealer. They do go after the elderly Seen it. Trying to sell one a brake system flush for over $100 for a vehicle with less than 40K They tried on me once to. Another time they kept pushing this old man to buy a tire rotation and something else. He kept declining they kept pushing After the third round I nearly stood up and jumped in "LEAVE THE OLD MAN ALONE HE HAS TOLD YOU HE DOESN'T WANT IT"

Good job Kenny. Just an FYI, this car has no "thermostat" as you described it. For a few years, Subaru decided to go all high tech and replace the spring-loaded thermostat with an electronically controlled Thermal Control Valve or TCV to more precisely control the engine temperature to improve MPG. This was a clear case of "when you overcomplicate things, you create problems". Subaru have since returned to their philosophy of "KISS" or Keep It Simple Stupid and went back to the old-style, spring-loaded thermostat you described. Now that you have seen the problem and know what to look for, you might want to brush up on how to replace the TCV as peoples' warrantees expire. Your loyal customers, well-earned loyalty at that, will be needing your service.

The 2019 + models have TCV - Thermo Control Valve on the top of the motor instead of the good old thermostat by the lower radiator hose. Gone are the days when you could boil them and see if they work properly...

Kenny, like you pulled apart that knock sensor, you could also pull apart a thermostat. When you do, cut apart that little can looking item in the middle with the pin going in it. Then put it in water and heat it up with a thermometer in the water and watch at what temp the wax melts (the little can is filled with wax). As the wax melts (changing states) it expands which pushes that pin out against the disk that the spring presses against. The temperature of the wax melting determines the rating on the thermostat.

They always only see what computer says - sad and tragic so they have to pay for issues from the repair shop or better the change something shop

Subaru uses a hot coolant feedback loop to the thermostat through the heater lines. Looks like they have a bypass valve in that loop.

Most thermos and thermos sensors are all part of the same thing and most of the time you cant order them separately so there is a good chance all of her thermostat problems were solved here also if its a hyundai damn the mileage its probably under warranty X3
