I recently purchased the L1 from B&H and it is fitted with an internal fan controlled with switch although I can't imagine why anyone would operate the unit with the fan turned off as it does tend to run a little hot. Although the inputs are HDMI, I am able to use my USB auto tracking webcams with a TAO USB to HDMI converter with no loss of functionality. I do a lot of training on ZOOM and although the platform supports multiple USB webcams, switching between webcams is awkward so the L1 is a workaround. Excellent review and explanation of the basic functions of this unit.

I'm glad that you thoroughly reviewed this unit. In my opinion, your honesty suggests that this unit should be more like $250 or less despite having the lcd screen compared to competitors.

Hey hey again Magmafire! This being my first HDMI switcher/capture card review, I can't say for certain if $250 would be the right mark for what this is. I definitely wouldn't mind it being $250. I've relayed my thoughts on future firmware updates to Feelworld to see if they will implement them and pull out as much value as they can from this unit, and to hopefully fix that screen tearing in PnP mode. For the most part I think the price is about where it needs to be in relation to the competition and features. Because once people go into OBS, you can actually do a lot of tweaking and get audio right where you want it as well as picture. The Atem mini I think just has their own software for it, but if someone wanted to use OBS for those audios settings on the ATEM, they can. I would love to see a company make a "no frills" HDMI switcher. Just 4 buttons, standard fade effects, PNP. All they have is status lights to tell you what modes or effects you're using. 1080p. $125-150.

I immediately got the impression the frame pacing of this video was off and jerky, but you confirmed the issue by showing the frame tearing with your arm waving. Something very wrong with how frames are encoded and recorded on this, even without obvious frame tearing it is extremely distracting for any motion in the video. Hopefully something that can be fixed in firmware. edit: or I'm too early to the video and KZbin's compression is doing something funky before it's fully processed
@SSingh-nr8qz
@SSingh-nr8qz 3 жыл бұрын
Nah I don't think it's KZbin's compression on this one. It's something else. Like something badly encoded and then uploaded to KZbin and KZbin might have had a problem reencoding it. That is clearly a problem with the output of this unit and not KZbin to try to make sense of it. Also consider that KZbins intake system is quite advanced to handle all kinds of video to be processed to be as pleasing as possible (for that mighty ad money). If waving your arms in PIP causes that kind of issues, then my money is on the unit and not KZbin.

Hey hey again you two! I did notice like there isn't enough motion blur coming through, I tried adjusting a bunch of settings in OBS and I'm not sure if I may have set something wrong. I did relay to Feelworld about potential firmware updates and I feel this may be part of the problem. The Feelworld gives out straight 60p, 30p etc. It does not give off 59.94p or 29.97p which the camera's I was using exports out of the HDMI. Part of me thinks that the conversion inside is not quite right, to the normal person it probably looks like any live stream but for us we can tell something is slightly off. I think the screen tearing while in PNP mode on the small picture is a processing error in refresh rates not quite matching up. I did notice one thing about how OBS was recording. Even though I had it in 30p, the inspector in Quicktime see's it as 30.02fps. Not sure what thats about and I couldn't find a way to change that in the basic setup. It could be user error on my part with my OBS settings and maybe I didn't click on one random thing... like B-frame. I wasn't getting sound for a lot of my tests and it was because I didn't check the box that said "b-frame", I have no idea what that is lol! Always learning.
@SSingh-nr8qz
@SSingh-nr8qz 3 жыл бұрын
@@TLDR_filmmaker That makes sense. I have had that happen to be during animation work. I would render at straight 24, 25, 30, or 60 fps, but when converted to the 58.97 or 29.97, you get this weird effect. This is a case that seems like everything needs to be in sync for it to work right. No slightly off frame rates or you will have a bad result. You should try this video again as an update seeing if synced up frame rates solve everything.

How did you record it. You need OBS or software? it doesnt have internal recording like the ATEM Mini pro
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 3 жыл бұрын
Hey hey again Brandon! Yes, I recorded with OBS right onto my computer, I did not livestream this review. Unfortunately this does not have the ATEM external hard drive recording design, this is definitely a very strip down version of the ATEM Mini Pro.
@BrandonColePhotography

My question is recording of all the outputs. If you do a review on a product and you have 3 outputs plugged into 3 different cameras, Once you do the review, how is the whole video recorded? Is there a memory card slot or something that records your whole video and all 3 sources or whatever sources you are using?
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 3 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Brandon! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! This unit does not record all inputs coming in, this is more or less just a HDMI switcher with some functionalities to help you see whats going on so you can operated it. You can only record/output one program (output) signal in which OBS uses when you are streaming, or when using OBS to do a recording. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

Hey hey Mecogee! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Make sure the OBS see's the Feelworld as a camera when its connect. If it see's it then its most likely your settings. Go into the feelworld menu Make sure the Feelworld is outputting the correct resolution you have set for your OBS stream. I'm assuming you are using the USB cable so go to the USB 3.0 part of the menu to find your output resolution. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

Absolutely it can be done this way. OBS allows you to live stream and record a high quality version at the same time. So after the live lesson is done, you can go to the high quality recording and spruce it up a bit if needed. The max quality of the stream and recording depends on the power of your computer, not sure what specs would give you both at decent quality.

Hey hey Alex! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! If you don't want to use OBS, your second option would be something like Quicktime Player on a mac where you can do a "camera recording". Essentially the LivePro L1 is a USB Webcam. I personally would just learn and use OBS. Its incredibly powerful and can be used by beginners to advanced users. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

So no arm waving, but what if you KZbin Channel specializes in exotic arm motions? That is a deal breaker LOL! On the real, something about this video feels off. Overall looks like a great unit but the output feels wrong. Like some weird form of temporal compression happening that messes with the quality and frames. It's subtle but enough for a person to pick up on. It's one of those things where a person feels something is wrong but can't put their finger on it. I had that feeling through this entire video. Such a shame. It really seems like an ideal piece of hardware I would love to use.

Hey hey again S Singh! HAhaha then you must find yourself another switcher lol! I'm sure you'll see the other comment I replied to that you were in. I'm going to see if its a firmware problem or if maybe I am missing some OBS setting that'll give me back my motion blur.

@@TLDR_filmmaker This kind of reminds me of thr PicoMic you reviewed a while back. At first glance, I was like THIS IS AWESOME! Great form factor. Looks designed for field work. All the wish list boxes were checked...UNTIL we got to audio quality. The most important thing is the output. Same deal here. At first glance, this looks perfect for something I would buy, but the output feels "wrong". It's almost like the uncanny valley of temporal compression.

Hello, just want to check was there any audio drift or audio lag? The Atem Mini Pro that I have has this issue.
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 3 жыл бұрын
Hey hey Ed! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! I talked about this in the video, as long as you plug your principle mic into one of your cameras, there won't be any audio lag as you see in this video. I did not adjust any audio parameters in this video in editing. My Mic was going through my Sony camera. If you use the external audio port instead, you will definitely have lag like anything else simply because the HDMI coming out of the camera has it's own lag. Not really an issue of the HDMI switcher rather it is the HDMI protocol of the camera Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

@@TLDR_filmmaker Hi, Thanks for reply. You are right. The problem that i faced was an audio drift issue. The longer the production, the audio starts to drift even further which makes doing an audio sync in the middle of a production impossible. Anyway keep up the great work. Love your reviews.
@TLDR_filmmaker
@TLDR_filmmaker 3 жыл бұрын
Ah gotcha! Hmm, I wonder what could be causing that if it is the atem mini's problem or an endcoding problem as the stream is being processed and pushed out. Thats definitely something I'll have to keep an eye out for if I ever do a 1hour stream or something. Thanks for the heads up about potential audio drift issues with HDMI switchers! Always learning :)
