I was in the audience. It remains one of the very great musical experiences of my life. In those days a high powered laser would fire a continuous lazer beam of light about 0.5cm in diameter from the back of the pyramid stage towards Glastonbury Tor 8 miles away. By the time the laser hit the Tor it would have expanded to illuminate the entire Tor Tower which is about 15 metres tall. Imagine what that would have looked like from a distance! There was incredible freedom to do things like that in those days. We took all that for granted....they were wild and great days. I've loved Fela Kuti's music ever since. Thank you Fela and thank you Michael Eavis.

@@vnessa33 Dude it was totally anarchic. People would fire rockets at police helicopters. A lot of people would simply be naked and high on the drug of their choice. There was a huge sense of freedom and an alternative way of living....after a week of Glastonbury Festival people would have difficulty re-adjusting to life outside the festival. The young people who now attend Glastonbury have no conception as to how totally off the grid it was. It was like an alternative universe for a week. No health and safety...it was completely insane. People driving Mad Max vehicles at full speed through crowds of people on acid..huge wooden figures being burned in the middle of crowds of totally out of it 'hippies'...a 24/7 week long party...it was insane.

Yeah especially when musicians make errors. The track before TDTMN on this performance was CBB and it appeared the band was having some issues with the monitors and the missed a part. He kinda let them have it. When that same part came on later i the composition, he guided them with his Akuba congas. Hallmark of a great bandleader

I knew Fela right from my youthful days but never cared to listen to his songs because of his appearance on stage...barely naked and smoking Indian hemp. The very day his death was announced, marked the begining of my love affair with his songs and personality. That time, I was a Youth Corp member serving in his home state of Ogun. That day he died, all the media outfits in the state had nothing to present for their viewers and listeners but only Fela songs and his biography. I just had no option than to watch his shows, and carefully listening to the lyrics, I gradually started noticing sense in his songs. I fell in love with his songs & admired his personality since that very day he passed away to date. He was an emancipator, human rights activist, philanthropist per excellent, a hero, a mentor and a role model...all built-in him! We truly missed a legend!

Fela had such a great ear for melodies and musical rhythms. His compositions are almost classical in their grandiosity, expressing a theme or motif with jazz-like variations, his polemical lyrics aimed at nigerian and african political conditions. He was the greatest artist of the african continent.

This guy’s sound is like DNA. You take a small piece and you can create a whole incredibly relevant album from that tiny piece. Modern artists understand that fact so they take a tiny piece and give us bangers like Tiwa’s 49-99, wizkid’s ojuelegba, burna’s song in Beyoncé’s album, kiss Daniels Flex, oritsefemi’s double wahala, to mention just a few. This is African in its purest form; every time I listen to his music, I hear more than just instruments; but hearts pouring out. My late mother told me that he lived 58 years on this planet; years later, when I told her that Baba lived 174 years, she disagreed; after explaining to her that he lived three years in each year, she agreed with me before her death.

We had this extremelly special human being, 80-something years. We lost him less than, 30-years ago. We lost the link we had with true, and genuine, honest world. It was painful, he was truthful and fighting for the rights of all generations in Fed. Rep. of Nogeria and the entire African-Continent and elsewhere. WORLD's Greatest SAXOPHONOST...Fela Anikulapo Kuti came to the world to 'rescue the down-trodens', and entertained me and you. HE FULLFILLED ALL HIS MISSIONS, HE WAS PUNISHED FOR IT, BUT HIS JOB WAS PERFECTLY DONE. May his spirit be preserved, and his soul blessed. This ghost of a man....Abami-Eda.....Iwin......Smoothest Saxman, can't be replaced. Koo-le-Seese (not possible). I love Felas Music it reflected his consciousness, a free spirit in a world of conformity and obedience fuelled by fear and racism.

2014 was the first I had of delay. I still don't get his songs to be honest, but the reviews I read about him made me understand how great he was in his time. Proud to be a nigerian now ❤️

Forever living in our heart!

The man who brought exotic dancers to another level is Fela. His talent with piano and the horn is insane. A man of a different time who walked with the giants like Bob Marley as a revolutionary with music, and who refused to toed any political correctness line.
