I love self-striping yarn. It makes colorwork easy and fun with fewer ends to weave in later. For this pattern, I really enjoyed working with the Felici Worsted Weight Yarn from WeCrochet. It creates a comfy sock that can keep the toes warm. This sock is worked from the toe to the cuff with the heel being worked last.
For more information and the FREE written pattern please visit:
brianakdesigns...
Repeats are written as S (M, L)
The ch 1 on the ribbing does not count as a stitch.
This sock is worked in the round continuously without joining. I suggest using a stitch marker to keep track of the rounds.

Finally a good sock tutorial! Been looking for an easy pattern to follow but every one of those had: "SPECIAL CROCHET MOVE, KARATE CHOP THE HOOK FROM THE 3RD CHAIN WHILST RIDING A BIKE DOWN A HILL" and so I just gave up on socks, but this is great!!

Love that yarn colorway! It's modeled after the 4th Dr.'s scarf on Dr. Who, which is why it's called Time Traveler. It incorporates all of the colors of his scarf (which is 9 feet long, btw). I've knitted the scarf before, these would be a cute addition to it.

so I've finished my first ever pair of socks following your pattern, mind you, I did it with sock weight yarn and a 2.0 hook, so my stitch count was different...I managed to adjust just by where you made the gussets (on the sides) and going on measurements instead of row counts...I am quite impressed with my outcome..thank you...👍🧶

@shaziz6966 hi. I worked more from measurement rather than stitch count. Mind you, I struggled with turning the heel so those parts are not so perfect. I kept doing rounds for the toe until it fit right, then worked up the foot to the heel, then up the leg to the height I wanted. And THEN I had to do it all over again for the other foot, chuckle. Good luck.

I have a very skinny foot I found it fits me best to skip the 2 single crochet in the same stitch all around in the beginning and to just do one stitch. I also like the snug fit without the gusset so I just continued until creating the opening for the heel. For reference, I wear size 7-7.5. I crocheted 20 rows up before beginning the heel. Thanks for an easy to follow tutorial and easy to customize! I’m going to make my boyfriend some now!

1. Remember to count the first loop of the magic ring as the first stitch. 2. If you're crocheting with double yarn (cotton/wool for example) the right numbers are: R1: 6 R2: 12 R3: 18 R4: 24 R5: 30 So these are the same as in the video, but continuing you will do: R6: DCR in first then scr in every stitch around = 31 Continue with 20 rows and you will arrive at the heel of a size 37-38 😊

@@altiajolie i buy bernat blanket yarn big ball, so it will definitely work for a wide size 7. I used a 10mm hook for mine with the blanket yarn but my foot is still bigger than his, so maybe an 8mm, this way maybe you can still use the same number if stitches and it will be big enough, this yarn stretches a lot too. It is advised that you avoid 100 % acrylic when making socks, and instead use a mix with at least 75 % wool or cotton, which will make the result less itchy and more transpirable! The other acrylic/nylon/whatever material part of the mix will make it more durable. Hope this helps!

I checked your blog but cannot find the information on how to adapt this to a larger size. You say that the repeats for sizes are written in parentheses but I can't see them. Could you guide me in the right direction?

Having trouble. I followed the video multiple times but the sock was too big. So I went down in hook size and still didn’t help. I got to a 3.75 mm hook and it still came out too big. I’m positive I’m following the pattern correctly and I’m using 4 weight yarn. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong ☹️

I am having the same problem using the 3.75 mm with 4 weight yarn. The only thing I can think of is that she isn't using weight 4 yarn like her tutorial says. I'm going to try going by size measurements rather than number of rows (i.e. follow the pattern until the section is the right size and then move on to the next section). I'll come back and comment how it turns out.

First time crocheting. Easy to follow pattern. I have done the same as you. Still very wide.

I know this a super old comment, but the link to the yarn she used states it is "fingering" weight yarn so 4 weight yarn would be much bigger. I used size 4 weight yarn and they came out quite big as well

If my foot is wider should I make it like 42 stitches for the toe bit and then do the other rounds

I am definitely a tight stitcher, but I am up to a 5.5mm hook and my circle after round 6 is still only 2.25”. Should I keep frogging and increasing hook size or just add rows until it’s the right size and then start the repeats? 😢

The tutorial was good I'd I was making the same size and the pattern doesn't include the stitch count for other sizes

How is this a video for beginners if the first step isn't even shown properly? i don't mind the speed but you could at least show us the angle better if you're not even gonna explain how to make the magic circle

Tip: Use the stitch markers on your last stitch on the row not in the first it can make it easier to find your last stitch to finish the project

The bar over the top (14 stitches t make the heel) is far to short, any suggestions how to size up in relation to all the other parts?

Chain your 14 stitches very loosely or it will be too tight , I did this

That wooden hook isn’t working very well… was a little painful to watch due to the hook not working smoothly for you, but very clear tutorial- thank you! (P.S. never buying that hook lol)

I'm sorry, but I did not find this to be an easy project. I don't consider myself a new crocheter, but I've only done hats and blankets so far. I did fairly well until the ribbed cuff, couldn't get the slip stitching, so went with single crochet and it worked rather well, still doing the slip stitching at the end of each ribbed row. But the heel is where I quit. I'll stick to hats.

I absolutely LOVE this tutorial. It makes everything so clear. You motivated me to order some time traveler yarn for myself to give it a try!

I have a question about the way you did the elastic. Can you use the same principal with any stitch to get it to stretch out more? Used it on a hat but it became too narrow but I would like to use the method because I like how neat it looks when finished and without sewing the elastic on afterwards.

Yes you can but it will also depend on the fiber of the yarn to how much stretch it has.
