John Milford Rutter CBE 1945. An English composer, conductor, editor, arranger, and record producer, mainly of choral and orchestral music.
The set of three piano pieces entitled Gymnopedies composed by Eric Satie is given an orchestral makeover and a totally new identity by John Rutter. The original piano music by Erik Satie has undergone many different arrangements and variations over the years, on this recording it is given a whole new lease of life this is done without losing the captivating essence of this much loved music.
Eric Alfred Leslie Satie 1866 -1925. A French composer and pianist. He was the son of a French father and a British mother. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire, but was an undistinguished student and obtained no diploma. In the 1880s he worked as a pianist in café-cabaret in Montmartre, Paris, and began composing works, mostly for solo piano, such as his Gymnopédies and Gnossiennes.
