I see what you mean, but it's jail. Should they make a different jail for light offenders? It's like going to stay at a hotel. You might be on the same floor as a sex deviant whose getting whipped and enjoying some creepy fetishes, when you're in the room across the hall ready for bed bcuz you have meeting in the morning, but you still share the same reason for needing to be at the hotel which is to take care of some type of act away from home. Same with jail. Everybody's there for a different act but all for the reason of need to be away from society for a set period of time.

This guy is 100%. At 2:00 he offers his opinion that he hopes that he doesn't "plead insanity" or "get off" because he knew exactly what he was doing. Everyone was speculating that he was insane because of that interrogation video. We now know that he was not found incompetent to stand trial, nor could he fit the criteria for an insanity defense. Why? Because forensic evaluations were completed to determine those issues. And because he was found competent and not fitting the legal standard for insanity, he was permitted to plead guilty. A defendant is not able to plead guilty if they are not found competent by the court to do so. In addition, he would not be eligible for the death penalty if he was found legally insane or incompetent. That would be considered unconstitutional under cruel and unusual punishment.
@wtconroe8792 жыл бұрын
His "mental illness" is being faked. If you rewatch the video of his interrogation you'll see that he snaps out of his own head from time to time then regresses. People with legitimate psychiatric problems don't do that.

Everyone was speculating he was insane after that interrogation video? lol really? anyone in their right mind knew exactly he was making all that up. You felt and i tell you ,you STILL win in every outcome in your life why?, because you chose not to kill them and that made you a hero remember you cant lessen the number of bad guys if you kill them youll just replace them (just dont go mass shooting pls)

For some lame reason they just want to be right. Right about what though? The gun laws are not strict enough and why in the hell does anyone need military style weapons anyway? Do they still think they are in a civil war? I find these comments to be utterly disrespectful to the victims and their families. These weirdo's and their so called theories wanna hope they never end up in one of these shootings, but if they do, maybe WE won't believe THEM. Basically they want to be in the military without being in the military. Their obsession with their guns is ridiculous. But until something is done about the guns laws, more will die. A handgun for protecting your family and home is fine, but they want guns that no citizen should EVER be allowed to have.

That’s interesting from that guys’ perspective. A lot of those inmates that are in jail probably have a wife and kids that they can’t be around, so when they hear of a guy like Cruz doing what he did, they probably stopped to think that it could’ve been their kid that was killed and probably had resentment toward him. I remember being told that family is important to some of those inmates because they can’t be with them because they KNOW that they messed up, are paying for it, and can’t be there to help protect and raise them. Take it from one of the most self-actualized human beings to grace the earth: "A nation should not be judged by how it treats its highest citizens, but its lowest ones - and South Africa treated its imprisoned African citizens like animals." In addition, Dostoevsky said, “The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons.” People tend to react w emotion when they hear of such terrible crimes; rather, think logically. To carry out the taking of a life is a horrific act of violence -- our legal systems should not be treating those incarcerated with such ruthlessness, regardless of the degree of violence that a criminal committed. This behavior reduces us to something less than any organism in the entire animal kingdom. We must be better than those who cannot adhere to the various rules of law, which a government puts forth. I could provide numbers of reasons why the death penalty should be banished.

you dont live in reality, you know how you stop guys like this, torture them live on payperview, got to make evil people fear to do evil acts. Theres a reason theres no drugs in Singapore or crime in japan and its called capital punishment. Japan hangs more people in a month than we have in 20 years and they are much smaller country and have the least crime on the planet. To not protect good from evil is far worse than inflicting evil on evil. You really think treating evil monsters like humans is a good thing? What do we do when a bear eats a human? and why do we do that? well apply that to murder's we should kill them so they cant kill again. You talking perfect world nonsense, Im talking reality.

I struggle so much with the death penalty. It's in the Old Testament Law that people who took lives could be slain by their accusers. But there were cities of refuge. If the killer, regardless of intent, could make it to one of these, they would be safe until the current priest over Israel died. All this adds to my confusion. I keep thinking that anyone deserves a chance to know God, realize what they did wrong, work to be better people. And yet ... there are some mental illnesses so severe that I don't know what can be done with them. I don't believe mental illness alone causes these people to snap, but that a lot of things do. The system completely failed him.They never did much in that regard. He should've had psychiatric and therapeutic help for years. But more than that, he needed people around him pouring love into him. Anyway, so sorry for the length of this. Not here to preach, just really struggle with the death penalty.
@skontheroad2 жыл бұрын
@@AmyAndThePup The death penalty in the Old Testament is more complicated than that. However, remember the Ten Commandments. It is pretty simple. Thou shalt not kill. Today, there is the insanity defense, which comes down to knowing the difference between right and wrong. Which we learn at a very young age. Mental illness and understanding right from wrong are not mutually exclusive. Unfortunately, too many kids (and adults), can now sit at home spending hours online in their own world and parents, teachers, doctors and friends won't know anything about it. Likely bc they would not be told. Because the person DOES know the difference between right and wrong. So, while it creates more problems, it makes it easier for a jury or judge to see thru the insanity plea. Sadly, he has no parents and no one who will be sad if he gets what he deserves, imo. And it may actually be the deterrent it is supposed to be for others in the future!
