Yes this!! I’ve been looking for flatburr grinder for a while and still can’t decided whether I should go high end grinder or Ode v2 with Ssp mp is sufficient in the cup. Just need to be able to taste the flavor easily 😂 currently with c40 it’s difficult sometimes

If a manufacturer mention that their grinder is for FILTER coffee NOT espresso, or vice versa why do most coffee reviewers and certain people say the grinder is a negative? Either the machine is stated to do or not. The end.

It would be interesting to hear your thoughts of a comparison between the new Gen 2 burrs vs SSP burrs. The Hoffmann thought the SSP was an improvement over the Gen 2, which is not surprising as it's 3 times the price. But he said the improvements were minimal, which would be remarkable given the gap in cost between the two.

Thanks for your excellent reviews and your channel! I just got my Ode gen 2 a week ago and am very happy with the taste of my coffee from my Breville Precision Brewer compared to my old Breville grinder. I haven’t tried it with my pour over coffee yet. I’m not a big fan of the catch cup however, because of the two fins inside or the lid for it. Hopefully someone will come out with an aftermarket replacement.

Significantly better! Even the slightest bit better in grind quality will make a huge difference to the consistency and flavour of your extractions. They've done a great job with the Gen2 burrs

Really enjoying my Ode gen 2. Curious if you see value in doing burr alignment on these grinders? I’ve been considering doing it, but not sure if it’s worth the time invested. I’ve heard some even say that it’s barely noticeable after aligning.

I have not invested the time in it no. I'd believe that even with alignment there's no telling if the drive shaft is perfectly straight either on your Grinder. Not saying Im aware of any issues - yet - even with $3K+ EK43's this is an issue and no matter how much you align it - it wont fix the issue. I always come back to - if it tastes good now - don't change a thing. Plenty of times I've chased 3-5% better and found myself lost retracing my steps 😂

Yes, 5g go in to all the tiny nooks and crannies of the grinder. This is the case with every grinder. So, to be fair, it’s not a Ode only issue. Grind even sits within the grooves of burrs and burr screws - so it’s almost unavoidable

@@AlternativeBrewing I can see the initial 5g retention, but after that then where does all the minor retention go? On a daily basis that could ad up after a couple of months. Not specific to the ODE since all grinders seem to do that.

@@mihatest one could disassemble everytime, though there's just no way this is practical. Some of the best Gridners have a 1-2g retention of this nature, whilst others less moderate. I would say 5g and below (depending on size of grinder) and where the 5g sits, is a safe amount ot have sitting for 1-2 weeks in the gridns chamber. TBH though = I only clean my Grinder once a month ... if I remember .. at maximum every 6 weeks.. never had an issue. Issues will arise over a much much longer time period, let's say a few years where eventually it will start to impact the drive shaft. Otherwise - for every 4-6 weeks sake, its simply a freshness concern.

What would you recommend as a grind setting on the Ode Gen2 for an Cuisinart automatic drip maker? Its a 14 cup model. I am having a hard time coming up with a dose and the grind setting. i like light roast east African coffees.

Depending on how rich or bright you prefer your coffee - I would suggest around an 8 for grind size - and use 2 ounces of coffee (65g) per 33 fl.oz. (1L)

I bought an ode grinder for $400 dollars and the motor died after using twice a day for two years. 1 year warranty. Fellow did not offer parts to fix or repair. Best they could do was 10% off another expensive grinder of theirs. I have a Baratza that tastes just as good- much better in fact when everytime I look at the broken fellow I think of how they got $400 out of me for a 2 year grinder. The Baratza has lasted me seven years and I can buy parts to easily fix, so tbh that alone makes me wayyy happier everytime I use it!! Fellow is hype imo and a good way to send your money to a company overcharging you for poorer quality than other brands.

I find the grinder is constantly jamming. I disassemble, clean and replace several times. Fails to work properly without many adjustments. When it works its great. I do not use for espresso grind.

fair concern. Depends how dark I guess . Is it really oily? -- and also the fineness you'll be using. I've not experienced this issue before. Im not using a dark dark roast - and everyone's scale is a little different 😂 if it is oil though - you;re most likely better to go with a Conical burr grinder - as it does not rely on the auger to push the beans through the burrs - such is the case with the Ode @@frankmilano

Hmmm. Well the beans I buy 90% of the time are def a bit oily. I currently have a KitchenAid grinder. About 10 years old. Flat SS burrs which I’ve changed out once. I’m looking to upgrade my grinder to get more consistent grinds. My coffee is pretty good now, but trying to take it up a notch. If the Ode 2 doesn’t make sense for me, is there a grinder you’d recommend? My budget is under $500. And I assumed flat burrs were superior to conical?

Hello, so what setting would you recommend using for a single cup (20 gram) Moccamaster coffee brewer? I use a med roast coffee blend, 100% Arabica beans from Illy coffee. Thank you.

I just purchased the Ode Gen 2. I really like this grinder-except for the catch cup lid. It's quite ridiculous, and the fit is atrocious. It's not some designer's finest hour. They should redesign it and mail one to every owner. Yes, it's THAT bad.
