I called Fellowes, as Vincent stated below, and she helped me over the phone, even though I was many years out of warranty. Mine would give the red light when the bin was out, but would not shred. He had me push down the middle power button hard for about 3 seconds and it came on. She told me to clean that power button all in the creases with alcohol very good and that will do the fix!

Thank you! This was my issue with shredder not turning on (though the waste basket open light would like, no others would). I disassembled and sure enough opposite legs of the power button switch did not have continuity when tested with a multimeter. Both the back and forwards buttons did have continuity. I was able to desolder the power and forward switches and replace the power button with the forward switch and we're back in business. Hopefully never really need the forward switch (we would need reverse to back out jammed documents)

Thank you for the video I just picked one up I wondered though why is it hard to stick paper in it I have another shredder and I feel like the slot is wider than this shredder I almost have to use two hands just to stick one piece of paper through it. Is there an adjustment?

Hello Keith, you shouldn't have issues inserting paper into the feed slot. There is no adjustment for the feed opening. Please contact our Customer Service if this technical problem persists. 1-800-955-0959

There is a plastic door with a much more narrow slot that flips over for shredding DVDs & Credit Cards. It sounds like someone may have accidentally flipped flipped the door, in order to shred in this mode. Try flipping it the other way.

I'm absolutely tickled pink that the best personal shredder on the planet is working like new again for $28 and 30 minutes of time. That's right, my 10 years old SB 99 Ci is more quiet and obviously working better than it has since the button started acting up a few years ago. Problem started with a cat that used to sit on the thing and clean itself, sending dander, shedding hair, dirt, etc. falling on top/into the switch. A small sheet of Press-n-Seal plastic food wrap now covers the button to prevent hair, dust, dirt, cooties from going down there, but the damage to the original button was already done by the time I thought of applying this trick. ... A couple of extra tips: Have a red or black Sharpie handy to mark the top side of the plug you are removing so you aren't twisting and wondering which side is up when you plug the new one back into the circuit board. If you wear glasses, and find yourself fiddling around doing this will remove that part of guessing if the correct side is facing toward you. Make sure the Black Rocker On/Off Switch on the side of the unit is properly seated in its housing before you button everything back up. Use a regular Phillips Head screwdriver with a 6" long barrel and magnetize it to hold the screws in place instead of just dropping the screws down into the 3 deep wells. Remember you are screwing the screws into plastic receptacles. So don't go all Superman on the damned things and strip a receptacle by OVER-tightening thus ending up SOL. If you accidently shift the shredder head out of position - I reached for something on the floor while the unit was on my lap and it shifted out of position - it sits on 4 rubber grommets, one at each corner. One end of the grommet is smaller in diameter and fits snugly (but not so snugly that you have to fight with it) inside a machined hole in the metal housing. Make sure all the grommets are seated properly before buttoning it back up. Lastly, thank you, Fellowes, for posting the video AND having professional, friendly and courteous folks working your Customer Service department. They ask you for the model number and serial number to ensure they are sending you the correct part. (it's right behind where the bin slides in, so have a magnifying glass & flashlight. or take a pic and blow it up.) I'm so tickled pink, and amazed at how quiet it suddenly is, I keep turning it on and off even though there is nothing left to shred. For $28 its just like having a brand new $275 toy. 😊

Thanks for the video, I've repaired the 99ci and two 79ci by cleaning the board and switches on the on/off power PCB. This saved myself and friends some cost. I love the 99ci and continue to recommend Fellowes as the best brand on the market. The wheels do have problems overtime where some of them don't stay in the hole. Any ideas, the heads look fine. It only a problem if I need to left it.

@@paulbasantes2992 Hi, It was a year ago and the switch is still working. I just took the switch out. It will come apart. I cleaned it and put it back in. Be careful when you disassemble the switch as it pops apart. It will go back together. It takes about 30 -45 minutes to take the body apart to remove and clean the switch. Just using air on the switch did not work for me. With it open, you can clean up the insides of the shredder. FYI I got my unit in June of 2012 and still going strong. Just a wheel problem. I hope this helps

@@karlmercer4840 thank you!!! I can't even remember when I got mine. I think around the same time as you. Appreciate the help! There was another person that mentioned to press hard on the button so I gave that a try. It actually worked!! I did previously open it up and cleaned the area. Used only a little compressed air. There was def a lot of paper and dust. Thanks again!
