Good job Tracy! I love the Gambler Big EZ and EZ swimmer too. Got one rigged on one of my rods at all times. I see ya had the Copperfield color to begin with, that's my favorite along with "Red Ear". ( It's actually more green & yellowish, with red flakes I think. ) On good days when they are tearin' up the Big EZ, I do the same thing: run out, and switch to the EZ Swimmer. Some days they don't want either, but when they do, either size is a fish magnet. I like a lot of Gambler's soft plastics. That garlic ( and whatever else ) scent stays with em too. I've gone 2 weeks or more w/o fishing, with a used Big EZ still rigged, and once my truck is loaded to go the next time, the scent of that garlic still fills the cab of my truck. I can't ever recall a bass dropping one either. I had a Gambler Mega Daddy Craw as a trailer on my grass jig one day & got distracted with something. A nice bass had picked up my heavy jig & swam way off with it by the time I got my attention back to it. But it's funny how some days they won't touch em. I guess that's why we call it fishing instead of catching.
@OldLadyAngler5 жыл бұрын
Yes you are correct. Copperfield was the color. Good eye. And YES that scent is strong and long lasting. Great bait for sure. I love that you can slow roll it and it still kicks that tail like crazy. I think that has to drive the Bass crazy!! They were just slamming it. I was a little bit worried that once I downsized to the EZ Swimmer, the fish would downsize too but that wasn't the case. Still caught some nice ones. Thanks for watching! When is your next trip to the stick marsh?
@howabouthetruth21575 жыл бұрын
@@OldLadyAngler I could spot that Copperfield easy with your high quality camera's. I like slow rollin em too, but have you ever tried surface buzzing em right over AND along a long edge of that topped out slop? Most of my bigger bass on the Big EZ hit when I did that, fish weighing 7 to 8 lbs. I'll cast it way back onto that topped out grass, and as soon as it comes to the edge, bam. Or over a hole. I also like to swim it right on the top really tight against a long edge of that topped out grass. If they don't want it on top, I start slow rolling it & dropping it into holes of course. You be ready, because the Big EZ really is a big fish bait. That's why I've always got one rigged ( but I'm using 6 to 8 rods ) , even if I find out they just don't want it on any particular day. It never leaves that rod, I just pick up something else. You do know about keeping the nose of the bait NOT screwed all the way on, right? With the nose backed off a tad on that screw, the whole bait really comes alive. Darn thing wiggles all over like an over-excited puppy dog. Mom is still in therapy, but doing very well. Should be coming home any day now. I visit & bring her everything she needs daily. I'm HOPING to maybe get out fishing this Thursday........that is, if I still remember how. ( I think I've said that before.....lol. )
@OldLadyAngler5 жыл бұрын
I got slammed a couple of times while zipping it over the grass but couldn't hook up. But yeah, I definitely saw that they like it that way. I did not realize about not screwing the nose in. I usually start off with it barely screwed in, and as the nose wollers out, I have to screw it in a little more. Those things just have fantastic action. Glad to hear that Mom will be home soon. Hope you can get that fishing trip in.
@howabouthetruth21575 жыл бұрын
@@OldLadyAngler You should be good to go on getting the right action then, the way you're doing it. Using those screw locks that are a little too small ( been there, done that ) will cause the nose to wallow out prematurely too. I learned that the hard way. They just don't get "enough bite" on the soft plastic. Are ya letting the fish have the bait a couple seconds before setting the hook? Like I was saying, I never recall a bass dropping a Gambler soft plastic. Not for me anyway. I've lost fish like anybody during the hookset or during the fight......but they never dropped it as I hesitated on purpose, before setting the hook. ( Except for that time I was fiddling with something else & left my grass jig soaking on the bottom, that I mentioned earlier. That darn fish nearly pulled all my line off the reel.......and it was a 1/2 oz jig. The fish didn't swallow it either. Just kept it in its mouth till I hooked & boated it. ) Thanks for the well wishes!!!
@OldLadyAngler5 жыл бұрын
@@howabouthetruth2157 some of the missed fish could be gar too. They're all over out there and they're really good at not getting hooked. And I think you're right... the screw locks could be bigger. Maybe I'll get a bigger size lock and put them on. What size hook do you use with the big ez?

With as often as you fish and having access to Fellsmere, I wonder where those ahead of you in the tournament are fishing. Went to Lake Lucy in Clermont yesterday, three dinks and a gar. Should have made the schlep to Fellsmere. Wind forecast says wait till the end of the week.

I know and talk to several of them. They're fishing wherever the clear water happens to be on any given day. It seems like I'm there a lot but actually only 2 times in March, 4 times in February and 4 times in January. Several of those boys in the top 10 live in Palm Bay area so they can go out every day if they choose to. Much better odds of getting the big fish. Lucky!!! Soon the hydrilla will take over and less people will make the trip down there. That's when it takes A LOT more work to get to the fish. There are a few that fish Tenoroc on a regular basis too. Big fish there as well, but still 2 hours drive for me. I think we need a honey hole in our neck of the woods!

Well it's like this.... why change lures when they're hitting what I'm throwing! haha. No need to change it up on this trip. But actually, I do throw it. I have one sitting in the console of my kayak with several other soft plastics that didn't get bit. I swap them around until I find what they're hitting. I throw it weightless.
