I have to say, after watching your wonderful how to video, I now don't mind paying the money to buy a pre made felt ball garland string anymore! I have ones for Christmas and Halloween and thought, I should just learn to make these myself but Had NO IDEA how much work was involved! Look forward to watching more of your videos for a craft that an ADHD person like myself COULD handle!

Lol. Yes, sometimes crafts take awhile to make but I find it very meditative to do felting. Glad you appreciate the work that goes into homemade items.

Gorgeous. I am thinking of stringing them around a string of tiny lights. My 21 yr. old daughter does not like the dark, so she has a string of lights on in her room year round. This will add a change of pace for her that she can unwind, put away and put back on as she wishes. My concern is tolerating working with the wool. I am allergic to sheep, I break out in hives when attempting to wear wool. I will attempt using gloves and long sleeve shirt to see how I do. I love the wool needle work I have seen others do, so I have wanted to try something basic for over a year now. This will be the perfect project. Start with one color and the basic needles you used to try it out. At least that is the plan.

Great idea Monica to string them with lights. You could make them smaller than a cherry tomato which just gave me another idea. You could shape them to look like a Christmas bulb! Oh how one thing always leads to another. Haha. I can't wear wool sweaters easy. So itchy. But I have no problem when I make the wool felted balls. Use the finger guards too and maybe that will get you by. Good luck!

Great video! Thank you. I'm having a really hard time finding how many grams it takes to make one ball like like the size in your video?
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts4 жыл бұрын
Well, I’m not the best in grams so will do some math here. .5 oz = 14.17 grams. That will make about 8 balls. So 14.17 grams divided by 8 = 1.77 grams for I 1” ball. Hope that’s right. I’m not the best at math. There is very little weight to wool roving.

Great video, thank you, could you tell me where you buy the little gadget thing that you put the two needles in,
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts3 жыл бұрын
I’m guessing you mean the plastic coffee stir stick. I save them from coffee shops who use them. But if you can’t find any in your local coffee shop you can buy them on Amazon. Here’s a link if you want to have a look. Unfortunately they only sell in large quantities. amzn.to/31Hc03b

Thankyou for sharing. I'm new to needle felting but your video is very easy to follow. I'm planning to make small needle felted trees for a project I'm working on. Is it easy to create different shapes?
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts7 жыл бұрын
Needle felting is like moulding clay into the shape you want. You create deminsion by felting more in certain areas. The easiest way to do trees is to find a cookie cutter in the shape you like then over fill the cookie cutter with wool roving. Felt on one side then turn over and felt and other side. Take your shape or tree out of cutter and felt around the edges. Hope that helps.

Hi, thanks for the video! I was wondering if you use a particular type of string when making the garland (is it just standard cotton string?). Thanks!

I just used basic kitchen string.

Where did you buy your wool roving? did you have to buy in bulk?
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts7 жыл бұрын
I have bought a cheaper version of wool roving from Michael's craft store but most of the wool roving I have bought from my local wool stores. They usually have bins with smaller pieces so I am able to buy a nice assortment of smaller pieces in the colors of choice. It is sold by weight.

Can anyone tell me why the acrylic yarn wont work if its brushed out? Will it not stay in a ball?
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts5 жыл бұрын
I have only used wool for felting. But Lion Bran has an unspun acrylic yarn that you can use for felting. This will work for needle felting balls but off course would not work for wet felting techniques as you would need the wool to shrink for it to felt. It would take a lot of work to brush out already spun acrylic yarn. But give it a try and see if it works for you.

@@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts also, you cant needle felt with an embroidery needle can you?
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts5 жыл бұрын
No that won’t work. Needle felting needles have little barbs on them that tangle the wool when you insert them and that’s what creates the felting process.
