Well, I’ve enjoyed your first ‘solo’ vlog - and I’m sure your audience has as well! Just to clarify a few things which you may already know, or not. I think you have probably worked out that in the U.K. ‘fanny’ refers to female genitalia. With regards to having a ‘Check Up’ at the Doctors, we use that term, I can’t remember the word Sarah used but it was just a fancier way of implying ‘check Up’. The reference to her loosing ‘Two Stone’ was weight related. A ‘Stone’ is a measurement of weight and often applied to personal weight. An American might say they weighed 140 lbs. whereas, in the U.K. we would probably say we weigh 10 Stone ( 1stone = 14 lbs). I think ladies clothing sizes in America are different to U.K. sizes, so size: 18 might not visually equate to you. Sarah uttered the dreaded ‘C’ word, which I believe is not particularly acceptable in America. As you can see, they don’t bat an eyelid to it in her U.K. audience. In fact, it is not unknown for it to be used as a term if endearment here, strange as that might seem. Keep on vlogging and reviewing Sarah, you’re probably unshockable now, or at least you’re getting there. 😷😅😷
@wilmaknickersfit
@wilmaknickersfit 3 жыл бұрын
Don't know where you live or how old you are, but the 'C' word is definitely not in common use and people definitely bat eyelid or two if they hear it. And as for the idea it's used as a term of endearment... Nope.

@@wilmaknickersfit It is in common usage among certain social circles. Plenty of men definitely use it as a term of endearment when around other men. People censor their speech among certain people. I'm guessing you will be quite shocked if you spent time around labourers.

@@wilmaknickersfit As for the ‘C’ word, or in polite circles (“See You Next Tuesday”) being possibly used as a term of endearment, It’s all in the context and of course the delivery. If you are still in doubt, watch this short video interview with Matt LeBlanc on Conan. He confirms the endearment fact and from his perspective the extensive usage of the ‘C’ word in the U.K. it starts at the 1:50 min mark. 😷 kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHapl2V-q92qoNE

Well done on your first solo video. You did a great job, I would definitely be up for seeing you do more solo vids. As for Sarah being a bit too graphic, I do feel that these kind of things do need to be discussed more in public as there really is nothing wrong with them as they are perfectly natural and may help other women realise that what is going on with their bodies is normal, that they aren't alone... well that's what I think when I hear these bits of her shows anyway, she made me realise that perhaps things that I was unsure or uncomfortable with were in fact something that many women have to deal with. Anyway, so glad you liked her, she is one of my favourite comedians. So relatable. Unfortunately I haven't seen her live, but I really would love to.

Sarah is probably the best mass-appeal comedian in the UK. Mainly as she has mass-appeal due to her personality and charm letting her get away with things rather than down to her playing it safe. Even my mum who's in her seventies loves her and has been to see her multiple times.

I live quite near where she's from so whenever she tours the gigs I go to are her hometown crowd, which is awesome. Theres some really good stuff that always gets left out of her compilations - her crowd work is brilliant and it's nice to see her doing callbacks to that throughout a full show (like the guy who doesn't like fanny in this one, that you said you recognised from an earlier video). I think at the beginning of lockdown she put a few of her older tours on her KZbin page in full so they might be worth you checking out.

Well done 'wifey' you made a really good choice of comedian to react too and did an excellent job. Especially liked the Ross from 'Friends' clip, as that is my favourite Friends episode. In the UK some GPs (General Practitioners) get their patients in to give them annual health assessments - a general, weight, BP check, with a blood and urine test. Just to make sure that all is well. My GP does them for me.

Sarah is also brilliant on the ubiquitous-and-yet-insufficient British panel shows (that's just to say that, to me, they're everywhere and there's still not enough of them). Her improv skills and quick wit are something to behold! For those unfamiliar with British panel shows, they're basically parlor games played by rotating teams of comedians as an excuse for hilarious banter. Some good examples are Quite Interesting, Would I Lie to You?, 8 out of 10 Cats, Have I Got News for You, Taskmaster, etc. Many are available in full on YT for free, as they're BBC productions and the Beeb doesn't care about copyright infringement outside the UK. Enjoy!

Great reaction! She said _chat-up line,_ and yes it means exactly the same as _pick-up line._ We know what pick-up line means, but the vast majority of people here say chat-up line. Perhaps it's the optimistic nature of _pick up,_ people here are less inclined to believe that it's likely to work and prefer the less definitive outcome inherent in merely chatting and quite possibly getting no further!...Just conjecture! As far as the _health assessment_ vs _checkup_ is concerned, I've always heard checkup more, that might be regional, I'm in the midlands, she's way up north...to any Londoners, no, the midlands is not _up north!_

Mrs Ethan - you asked "what are those?" when Sarah said "ITV 2+1 × 4" - she's making a reference to a TV channel, or a group of them. Before cable & satellite became common over here, when most people only got their TV signal via an aerial, we had a limited number of channels: BBC 1 BBC 2 ITV Channel 4 followed some time later by Channel 5 BBC 1 & 2 come from the same company, (mostly?) government funded (which we have to pay a licence fee for, although the licence is for having a TV in the property, not for watching those channels). Channels 4 & 5 are their own separate companies, and I don't think they get any of the licence fee. ITV is a bit different. Basically it was a group of regional channels who mostly showed the same content at the same time, but there would be some differences, like for regional/local news. Eventually, possibly around the time of the switchover to digital broadcasting, there started to be more channels. So instead of just ITV, there was ITV 1, ITV 2, ITV 3, ITV 4, as well as +1 versions of those (exact same content as the non-+1 versions, just 1 hour later). I think they've added more channels since I last checked, but that should give you a general idea of what she was referring to. I'm sure Wikipedia has a better explanation of it. 😀 ---- Millionaire's shortbread - it's basically crumbly/biscuity base, then a layer of caramel, then a layer of chocolate.

Just so you know... at 7:10 when she's talking to the family planning woman. This is an old expression from the north of England. The full expression is "aught for naught". It means "something for nothing". In a northern accent, "aught" sounds like "owt" and "naught" like "nowt" - and many of the locals actually spell it that way. Hence, "owt for nowt".
