Let's shine our lights together!!****I was labeled a tomboy, even in the early 80's.I grew up practically mute until I was almost 4. I now know it was Autism and I also found out I am dyslexic. My mother would just label me stupid. I loved books, art, cats, jeans, sneakers, sci fi and being outside.I could sew, cook and create from a young age and my mother hated it. I did not like social instances and I still do not. I did not date because I found boys to be very annoying and immature. My mother tried to scare me with a religious boot camp. She was worried I would be a stain on society. It was awful. I felt like they were aliens all trying to convert me to something I am not. I was tested and found to have a high IQ and I excelled in Art and soccer/volleyball. My mother hate every ounce of me. My parents tried to marry me off at 18 but I just left home and never looked back. It was mental and emotional abuse. She continued until the day she died, trying to destroy me. I went out, travelled the world, kept up with my art, books and being outside and am very happy now, in my late 40's. Blessings to all these mislabeled women, who just were fed up and wanted to be free.

I identify female, born female but I am a bit masculine. I just felt that the way she was back then was not "socially acceptable" - which was just awful - no matter how you identify. She was her own individual self In a stupid "cookie cutter" world and gay or not it was hard to be so individual. Maybe today she would have had an easier time identifying, gay or not. They would take the fact that she's impulsive, the fact that she doesn't remember emotional events or anything tied to a strong emotion, they would also look at the fact that she is antisocial, they would look at the fact that she prefers others to control her life; which is what she meant by "I feel better when I'm locked up" that's because she doesn't have to make any decisions or be responsible because somebody else is doing it for her. I would say that speaks to the probability that she has a narcissistic mother(person she tends to have issues with) that isolated her from others and controlled every single thing about her life and then when she became of age, she lost her damn mind in a sense and started acting impulsively because she was free and wanted to experience shit, and with a childhood the way she had it there was no way she could make smart choices out of impulsive ones. Instead of actually trying to come up with a treatment plan that might actually help her and reintegrate her into society, they would just going to treat her with a bunch of medications and turn what could possibly be something curable into a lifelong condition. Just like they did in that time. The field (psychology) itself concretes it into a mental illness, instead of a treatable condition.

I am a therapist and was trained to do an interview almost exactly like that. I knew what question should be asked as he was asking them. He did a great job, very fluid. This is only a very short portion of an interview. He didn't cover the sexual history, any interests or resilience, and specific symptoms when not under the influence of substances, but this didn't appear to be the whole interview. Very interesting.

When this part was filmed she had married and had two boys, big house on 180 acres, 11 miles outside of town. She said it was peaceful, and her husband knows about mental illness because of his mother. He works hard and makes good money and her life has changed, and she is much happier now, and he understands her up's and downtime and takes care of her, and she likes that, to be taken care of. Good for her, she finds her self making better choices now… Nice.

It struck me when she said she liked being pregnant and in the hospital. The pregnancy hormone could have contributed to her feeling ok and being in control of some aspect of her life, the medication given in the hospital may have balanced out ‘hormonal’ symptoms too, just a thought. @Michael Scofield might be, the current research supports the idea that narcissist personalities develop from trauma and neglect in childhood, the title of the movie suggests that she is diagnosed with bpd, which holds many of the same traits as narcissistic personality disorder and from listening to her speak about her mothers behavior it is possible that she is narsasistic as an adult because she was raised by a mother with those tendencies and a father who was rarely present. I dont doubt that this woman has some kind of npd, but i don't know if she would have wound up in the hospital with a more stable nurturing upbringing

The psychologist has a great, soothing voice to draw out the woman's most intimate feelings; he doesn't let too much time go between questions, keeping total eye contact with her, not looking at or writing down notes, totally engaged, trying to put her at ease and succeeding more than normal it would seem with a woman who's mostly closed off to all social contact. There is something very dramatic about these 1950's, early 60's psychiatric interviews that make them almost haunting....the stark black and white film, the room, etc.

Her transformation between the two interviews is shocking. I think her husband and his acceptance of her past is exactly the right support she was missing to find peace. Marrying him seems to have been the "turning point" in her learning to control those negative impulses and gave her the courage to be a mother and acknowledge responsiblies. She is remarkably strong and I applaud her refusal to conform to what society expects, even after becoming a PTA mom and waking each morning to iron her husband's shirts. I wish I knew her.

OMG, this poor woman! She's 21 and has had 2 stillborn birth, 1 after birth death, 1 adopted child, twin adopted children and the two that are with her. And has been married twice. She is a victim of her circumstances. She was pushed by society to marry and have children, because that's what females did. She probably has suffered from sexual and/or physical abuse. Maybe she's a lesbian. Regardless, she's been through an awful lot at such a young age. And yet, she's very articulate and clearly intelligent. I think they used to view "promiscuity, illegitimate pregnancies, lesbianism, multiple marriage, drug addiction, theft, and bad-check passing" as confirming antisocial personality disorder. It can also indicate BPD, but now there are some researchers that feel that the BPD diagnosis is itself masking trauma or PTSD. All of these are best-available labels for complex situations of human lives, which are themselves complex and fragile.

She has trouble describing her feelings. ITs why the therapist keeps asking how she feels. Antisocial personality disorder and cluster b personalities are not in touch with their feelings they are not able to describe them or empathise with others. She can articulate feelings of sorry or disappointment but only when it relates to herself and not others. She is pretty flat lined in her responses and remains factual. she doesnt emote at all except for the odd smirk. You could interpret those as dupers delight. She admires her father and it was interesting how the psychiatrist picked on this and didnt let it go. If she had admitted her father was bad, then she would have to admit she was too. But she couldnt do that as she likes being just like him. I have CPTSD and disassociative disorder, trust me it doesnt look like this

Just losing all those children to stillbirth, and forced adoption would be traumatizing. 10-15 shock treatments that she asked for? Could be self harm common in CPTSD. This is why it is of epidemic proportions in our society because the awareness of it and it's effects is very poorly understood. I wouldn't be surprised at all the read somewhere that her mother was the enabler and may even have known about the abuse and in order to cover up the family shame made her the scapegoat! The psychiatrist suffered from an incredible lack of curiosity on the subject of how she, at age 21, has had 7 pregnancies. It's so glaring. She most likely suffered from sexual abuse from an early age as well as severe emotional abuse and other trauma. If it's an evaluation it's not the time to probe deeply into anything in particular. You're mostly working on trust and getting an idea of their backstory. You never know how much someone has fully internalised that they were actually abused and it can be hugely destabilising to confront it and experiencing that fallout without feeling pretty secure in the therapeutic relationship first might actually damage it.

She seems well adjusted; but dealing with psychic gifts, anxiety, stress, lack of guidance, and some bad choices from addiction. But she's not antisocial. It's also incredible to see a classic lesbian again since they started 'becoming rare' expression wise in the early 2000's. Now that gender lines are often no longer distinct among LGBTQ people, classic lesbians are few and far between. There's a certain energy of LGBTQ people born in the 1900's. I miss that. The collapse of a stable science based mental Healthcare ststem has caused untold suffering. Allowing drug addicts, chronic alcoholics & untreated mentally persons to live on the streets in large encampments lacking first world sanitation is appalling. Fentanyl addiction is alarming yet most large metropolitan regions in America offer no treatment rather its criminalized. It seems to me severe emotional neglect by her (narcissistic) mother. Just looking at her side of the story though. Lack of love and guidance from either parent. Mother telling her she was bad since she was really young. She seems to want to fix herself which doesn't seem antisocial to me. The part that struck me the most is she feels safer in the hospital than she does at home with her mother. I would say she is emotionally broken. Her mother never bonded with her.

Just because someone says they knew what they were doing does not mean that they did. I was molested at the age of thirteen and beyond. I had not even started menstruating... I sure as sh!t didn't know what was going on, and at the age of 21 I probably wouldn't have admitted that. You are correct her unique experiences, attitudes, perspective are hers alone and may be very different from my own. Ask most experienced and knowledgeable adults if they think a 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, or 18 year old should be having children and I am guessing that most of them (if they are not pedophiles ) will sat no, it's too young. At least here in the United States. Ask most doctors, therapists, and social workers if they think it's a good idea and most of them will say it's not optimal for the teenager or their child. This lady just seems like someone who has been beaten down by everyone in her life and the system to the point of just accepting she is a problem and allowing stuff to happen to her now. For her to say that she wanted to go to the hospital because it was better for her, what was her home situation like then? To blame someone who has gone through or is going through trauma doesn't help them. Of course she is going to do drugs etc. I hope this beautiful lady eventually got the help she desperately needed.

She probably had something like Bi-Polar etc as well which would explain her ups and downs and why she so many miscarriages and children etc and the drug taking etc and the impulsivity. My 17 year old granddaughter, her mother sent her to live with us when she was 15. She was out of control, her mom didn't want her anymore. She is now 17. She is soft spoken, sounds so sweet when she speaks, just like this girl.The first year was very bad. She lied, stole, snuck out at night, wouldn't get out of bed for school. There has been so much improvement! She has stopped all the bad behavior. The only problem at this time is school, she barely passes 11th grade this year. We are Christians, we just kept loving her, patiently working with her on her bad behavior. We haven't stopped praying and love her unconditionally. It is not easy, but she seemed so miserable and now she is happy, loving and a sweet girl! I hope and pray she makes it in this world! I love her so much. And this young lady, all she needed was love, understanding and guidance. I hope she found herself, happiness and the love of God! She seems like a beautiful soul! 🙏🌹

This poor soul learned early that she could not, should not express her needs. She had to get committed to a hospital in order to be able to speak. Loving the empathy.... Some people have no memory of sexual abuse at the hands of caretakers, or possibly sexual abuse occurred to the mother, grandmother, great grandmother and got passed down the family line as traumatic behavior...... my heart goes out to all women struggling with trauma of sexual nature. My Observations: ~ She is extremely intelligent, analytical and rational. She is clearly suffering from early and continual maternal and familial emotional abuse and paternal neglect. ~ Appears to be a lesbian. Chooses to dresses like a male, with no obvious femininity. Is this because she was a lesbian or because she was self-sabotaging and punishing herself by removing anything that made her attractive to the men she apparently wanted to love her, but had been brainwashed to think she was unworthy of? ~ During the 40's & 50's being a lesbian was simply never discussed in any family. It was never acknowledged and no one even recognized it when it was right in front of them. ~ She has been seeking out love anywhere she can get it which explains her numerous and continual pregnancies (eight by age 21??) and quicky marriages. ~ Her history of infant miscarriage, stillbirth or post-birth deaths of the children shows either poor prenatal care or poor post-pregnancy care and nutrition, or perhaps a deliberate harming of the infant by herself or a family member. ~ Having an illegitimate baby was extremely taboo and unacceptable during that time frame, and often girls who became pregnant and were unwed were sent to the Catholic 'Girl's Homes' to prevent embarrassment to the family during the pregnancy. The girls were shamed, given no prenatal care or training, and the babies were immediately taken away, never to be seen nor heard from again. The Catholic church has been known to keep the child's information from the mother, sealing the records, often saying the baby died, was adopted by an out-of-state family or similar. ~ Her desire to 'cure herself' with shock treatments was heart breaking. She never got the psychotherapy she needed to overcome her familial abuse and the stability she craved. A terrible waste in my opinion.

The main symptoms of Antisocial behavior are violence and lack of remorse for others and personal actions. The only thing I see is risky behavior and not thinking of the aftermath of decisions. I wouldn't say she is Antisocial. Just rebelliousness as she was never accepted by society or with family. Not sure if she is on medication, probably is, but she seems shameful for her decisions and does have remorse for her mistakes. She appears depressed. Bi Polar disorders should be explored as her risky behavior may have taken place during a manic state which is common.

Your decision making abilities are gone, your desire for living on the edge sounds like fun, you will try to commit crimes because you feel invincible, you will drive drunk because you are the life of the party and don't want to party to stop. You will engage in risky behavior not caring about the outcome. You become hyper sexualized and will engage in promiscuous behavior. You can't turn your brain off. You can't hold a job or relationships. You can become angry for no reason. Then you start hearing things that aren't there, yet you know it isn't real. Then, comes the roller coaster crash where you will slip into a depression because you have fried your brain of all endorphins, etc etc. You will sleep for 13 hours, wake to eat, then do it all over again. I'll gladly trade sides with you. I cycle every 3 months on a never ending roller coaster. If you think it is made up, then yes it is, in name but the symptoms are very real. You know nothing until you walk in someone's shoes and you have no right to comment on something clearly.........you know nothing about.

My view: She was likely rejected and emotionally abused from an early age by her mother, and siblings followed suit, along with school mates and society, who failed to appreciate her boyish appearance. The rejection and abuse resulted in false shame and guilt, followed by drug use, run-ins with the law and incarcerations. If she'd been raised by loving parents, she would very likely not ended up so sad and broken.

I know you mean well, but with someone with ASPD it’s a dangerous game you’re playing when lending aide to us. We seek out vulnerabilities and focus on that until we’re done or bored (like me). We twist truths to make ourselves look better or gain sympathy. We feel very little or no remorse but understand what empathy and remorse is. We are justified in what we do, even if it’s violent, illegal, or damaging to others. This is of course on a spectrum, but if you are diagnosed with ASPD (sociopathy), then you have to be actively careful not to be a heartless person lol. The modern day says “be your true self! You don’t have to mask!” But that’s only if you are harmless and have non violent thoughts. I think we should keep it that way.

She pulls at my heart. You see a small child wondering why mommy doesn’t want her. Need her. Love her - or even really like her. She did nothing but be born into that psychosis. I hope she’s a happier, loved and loving of herself person. My own mother had this same issue with me. It’s benumbing. Very hurtful at a very early age. Your “rock” keeps pushing you away. But I’ve led an inordinately happy life, full and prosperous and healthy -as I got away, at an early age, and made my way in life, learning, forgiving, and letting go all that pain that was never mine to carry. 👍 My 2 daughters are positive, wonderfully capable and loving adults with their own daughters whom they adore and cherish. I’m married 42 years now to my best friend and husband. I broke a loop that my own mother had been put through, herself and re-enacted, and we, my little family, are now fully rid of that past.
