the song isn’t just about rape, it’s about child abuse, the child is fantasizing about someone taking them away from this awful household and loving them, “that they could shoot but that’s no fun cuz then they’re killing their stolen son”

As someone who went through child abuse I def see it that way. I’d never tell the police a thing bc it’s just easier that way. Trauma bonds are so frustrating and very real, unfortunately. Also the line you mentioned is something that went through my head a lot as kid - they could get rid of me and my sibling, but then they wouldn’t have anyone to abuse.

The thing I really like about The Neighborhood is that they use both genders for this kind of stuff. This song is about rape, while Daddy Issues is kind of similar. Notice how the name of this song is "Female Robbery" and in Daddy Issues they say "go ahead and cry little girl". Basically what I'm trying to say is that I like that they say both genders go through this.

This song reminds me of how I felt when I was raped by my best friend. You Don’t want to tell anyone, but you want them to know. You don’t wanna tell the police because you don’t want to be judged or get in trouble. At least this is how I felt. I don’t want to tell anyone because he would get in trouble. He was my best friend, he gained my trust and I loved him so I didn’t want him to be in trouble. And if I say anything I’ll be judged. I tried telling my friend but she never believed me. This song hits too deep. A close relative of mine has parents that abuse them emotionally (i believe physically too) and when i listen to this song i just think of her. In the song the girl dreams about being kidnapped just so she could leave her "home". She saw it "in her tv screen". "that tv show i saw as i fell asleep/had me on both my knees/praying to whatever is in heaven, please send me a felon/ and don't let the police know anything". I love that line. She wants to be taken and not found by her family. The irony is amazing: she dreams of the unsafest scenario just so she can escape the supposedly "safest" place in her life - her home. And she prefers the unknown rather than the hurtful reality. And the unknown doesn’t seem scary to her, because she believes it would be even better than what she is going through now. And the crime is her salvation, the only hope she has, she puts not in the good people, but the bad people. So deep, so profound, this lyrics is a masterpiece.

or it could be telling the lead singers mothers story from when she was little, just like in the song " Daddy issues" allegedly talking about his father and how his father was abusive and at some point leaving the family and passing somehow.
@Iainthightho4 жыл бұрын
I’ve read a couple interpretations of the song, and know that it’s a little girl saying that she is in a very bad place at home and wants to be taken away from it. She is taken away; but by bad people. She considers these people her “heros” from taking her away from the bad situation she was in before. She watches shows about police catching criminals and she knows her kidnappers are felons and she know that the police will find her and the kidnappers and she is afraid she will end up in the same situation she was in before. But in the end she ends up in a better family feeling loved by this one because the police found her and took her to a better place. But who is the band talking about? I believe it is the lead singers mother. He is retelling her story and how she ended up out of the situation. The lead singer’s father was abusive toward him as you can hear in the song “daddy issues” and the father eventually leaves his family and some how dies. So, we can probably interpret that the songs is the lead singers mother’s story. Thank you for reading!
@Iainthightho4 жыл бұрын
This is a very very deep song. The music video version has a French part that’s translate completely opposite to what the speaker is saying. We can infer that she doesn’t want the world to know what she writes about in her diary. She starts to say that she found help, she found the perfect person and way to take her away from her current situation. She also mentions them to be a felon. Her life at home is so miserable and unbearable that her being stole is the only way and perfect and logical way to make the situation better for her. If not, she is seeing her death (which she says in the beginning part in French) - suicide. She somewhat gives these felons the same status as heroes because they seem to completely understand her situation and why she hates her life and why she has to be taken away from her home. The music video shows how she is being abused by her father not know to which extent. Could be physical, psychological, emotional and sexual abuse. Person that has been abused, specially a child, their greatest fear is to tell some one that they are indeed being abused and instead it is better to want your life to end. There is so much guilt and shame that she doesn’t want to tell the police. The female robbery title is the contrast between the male abusive and dominating figure to the nurturing and comforting female. Where she wants to feel safe and protected and loved. At least that’s my interpretation.
@videokitten3 жыл бұрын
@@Iainthightho yes that’s exactly right! I love this song cuz I was abused as a child and got kidnapped at 14 and had Stockholm syndrome and refused to press charges on him. In the official video they show the female kidnapper digging a grave and then at the end you see her holding hands with the little girl so I think they killed the abusive father!
