Female Thunderbird pilot wants to inspire others

Major Michelle Curran is the only female fighter pilot on the Thunderbirds, the Air Force demonstration team. She also flew 160 combat hours in Afghanistan before joining the team. "CBS Evening News" anchor Norah O'Donnell shares her story.

Gosh I get tearing eyes when ever I see the amazing thunderbirds !! Our daughter was a thunderbird she was the schedule maintenance for the jets !! And on show days she was the DJ !! We are so proud of her and she now has been in for 20 years making her way to chief !!! But these pilots give me chills! I can not wait to go to another thunderbird show !! And this pilot is an amazing woman and I want to thank all military men and women who put their lives before us so we can have a better life THANK YOU so much !!!

I’ve seen the story of Major Curran meeting her biggest fan the then 7 year old Amelia. I thought that was so adorable and Major gave her a tour of the facility. That’s such an amazing story to take you away from all the drama and propaganda being shoved down our throats

CBS Evening News, I am really shocked that so many men are such devout haters of American women as military aviators. My own father was one that believed women belonged only at home taking care of “his home” and thankfully he died a harsh death during my high school freshman year. I want my daughter to soar to her own chosen goal, whether that be journalism, something corporate, aviator or something else. You only get one shot at living! Do not waste it!

pretty awesome to be able to fly a fast jet. When the reporter is shown the jet, she says the pilot is the rank of major, but on the plane she us Captain, had she just been promoted? Anyway must have been a great experience.

Inspire others? LOL Seriously? Major Curran wants to be admired, that's all. Count the number of times she says "I" or "my" or "me." "I'm a left wing solo...which is, I think, one of the hardest positions to fly." Of course you think that. (How many other positons are there if left wing solo is ONE of the hardest. I think all the positons are pretty hard, if not as flashy as a solo.) Good luck inspiring people, Major.

1. Basic physics? You mean drag? Otherwise, I have no idea what you mean. Anyway, formation pilots will tell you that the maneuvers that look the easiest are actually the most challenging. The graceful left echelon roll is the hardest, while high-speed individual crossings are often the easiest. 2. Incredibly humble and down-to-earth people don't say "I" and "me" and "my" all the time. 3. Jealous? You need a different adjective.
