I built my L-ranch in 1972; 50' × 82' outside dimensions, 8 room, 4 bedroom, 2 full bathroom with 2 car garage on 2 1/4 acres, in the rural farmland of Western Mass. It was the greatest accomplishment in my 23 years at the time. 72, 12' sheets of 5/8" firegrade sheetrock with an 8' stepladder, a 4' stepladder & two 2×4 fabricated T supports. I only broke 2 over my head, only to give it all away to my X-wife & 3 children 25 years later. Now, at almost 72 & retired at 70, I will be a renter the rest of my existence. That's why I can appreciate & respect people like you who are driven to excel.

Wow! I picked up the Sika brand at Home Depot several years ago for a flagpole and noticed exactly the same. In fact, I had to pull it up and use Sakcrete to put it back in the ground. Within a few days the pole was leaning and the field mice began eating the foam. If you are doing a bunch of these posts, the utility companies buy it in drums. You can use a gun to squirt it in similar to spray foamers.

Wow, I'm definitely impressed Tony! Sika, if you're seeing this, you better improve your formula of you're gonna lose a lot of customers. Look at the bright side, you might be able to use the Sika as foam insulation...lol. It might work for that. Here's what I'm interested in....if you still haven't pulled up the Fast 2K post....how far into the soil did it permeate. I bet it's completely adhered about a foot or more into the surrounding soil. Definitely the superior product! Thanks for sharing Tony! 👍

After watching your initial Fast 2K video on the pole barn post, I made the same decision at Lowes, no Fast 2K, bought the Seca. Used it on a flag pole and was disappointed due to the shrinkage. Once Fast 2k is in the ground, you can start building on it in 30 minutes. Fast 2k has a calculator on their website to help you out with how many bags you'll need. I recommend getting extra because they run on the lean side.

Sika, if you are listening....this is your wake up call....but i wonder if you poured the Sika into the ground and then put dirt over the top of it to force the foam sideways into the walls of the hole...i have heard this on another foam post material and the downward pressure forces the expansion sideways instead of upwards...now the question is, how much dirt do you put on it and do you want dirt on the top 6 inches of all your posts????...Great job Tony and a very fair test

I had the same experience with Sika. I did 25 4x4 fence posts in late spring. 1/3 are solid, 1/3 barely acceptable for a 60" post buried 30", the remainder had to be pulled out and concreted. The garden fence posts had to be redone after 2 months because they loosened up. Awful product. The inconsistency of expansion bag to bag drove me crazy and made for a lot of dome trimming

Thanks for this video. For me it was just a bit too late. I’ve used Sika products a handful of times with good results. Early last month I used it on 16 posts, 128 feet of fence. Got a call from the customer Friday, went and inspected today, 14 of 16 are loose! Appears as the foam has shrunk as you noted in the video. Needless to say I’m not happy and neither is my customer. Reached out to Sika, will see if they back their product…

We had the EXACT same problem with sika. it sat up great, but then after it sit for a day or so, it seemed to shrink back down. I mean, if someone is putting in a small fence, or something not weight baring, I wouldn't push them away from it.

I found foam as an alternative to concrete. Current treated wood will rot off in 5 years, but Fast2K keeps the post waterproof. If a person takes care of the upper post, it should last a life time.

There are so many benefits. Concrete is messy and heavy to work with. Concrete cleanup after mixing is a pain. Concrete keeps wood moist and causes it to rot. Treat lumber of today will not hold up against concrete. Fast 2K makes the post waterproof. If done correctly with Fast2k, a post should last a lifetime. Check out the video where I put the post in the ground for the pole barn. Good information in that video.

Sorry if it was covered and I missed it. Encasing fenceposts in the ground with say concrete makes them rot out really fast because it makes a bowl for water to collect in the bottom. How well does this product do to protect from rot due to holding or wicking in moisture? I always just use tamped soil, and shhhh, a little used motor oil on the post, they last forever and don't rot or get eaten by termites.

Fast 2K encapsulates the post completely making it is water proof. In proper application, you coat the post a little above the ground. I have done a good deal of research on this now. Fast 2K is like the stuff the electric company uses to put down utility post over the last 25 years. It is well proven, and I will not stray from Fast 2K again.

The trick with wood is the moisture can intrude through the wood itself, the post will also contract a lot in really dry climates creating a gap (think wooden maul handles needing a soaking to tighten the grip on the axe head). That foam stuff looks like it would prevent any water like that from accumulating, in comparison to concrete which holds the water indefinitely.

I've used Sika products for decades in dam repair with exceptional results. The expanding foam will collapse if not mixed with proper proportions, generally too much of the part b. You may have got a kit that was improperly proportioned. My electric utility uses Sika with great results in setting power poles

I hand packed my posts with a square pole and a Deadman brace. Took forever, 0 issues, $2.30 for the treated 2*4. I think I'll do it the right way, or pay someone to do it the right way.

Fast2K was run through the wringer during testing. Once it cures, it becomes completely inert-no leaching into the ground. If done right, it keeps the chemicals in the treated wood from leaching out. I can not find anything to fault with FAST2K. I appreciate you watching this. Happy New Year

I put 3 bags per hole. It is important to pour the Fast2K around the post top right above the ground line and let it drip down into the hole from there. Most pole rot happens at about 6 inches below the soil line. Coating the post makes it water proof. It was 3ft deep.

I have never tried it, but it seems to only come in bulk. I like the idea of the single serve for home owners and small jobs. Fast 2K comes in bulk also, but I have never mixed or used it to this point. I am pretty set on Fast 2K now.

Will this product stand up to hurricane force winds? Like a cat 3 or 4? Ida took out my fence and i have to replace it and i cant afford help so looking for something lighter than cement.

I would say, nothing can hold up to a hurricane. The weak point will not be Fast2K, but the posts themselves. Wood post will break off and metal post will bend. I think Fast2K would be better than concrete. Concrete rust metal posts and rots wood posts. The less rot and rust, the longer they last.

I will stick with concrete. I Helped build a pole barn over 40 years ago. The crew boss had us drill the holes an extra 6" and fill with gravel for the post to sit on, added an couple of inches of gravel then filled and tamped with dry sackcrete until it mounded slightly above the ground. The idea was for the gravel to act as a drain for any water that got in next to the post so it could dry back out and not be trapped next to the wood. That barn is as solid as the day it was finished. The Foam products seem like they save time and labor, but I am not convinced of the longevity.

I understand. You would be wrong today. Your poles of 40 years ago had treatment before the EPA got involved. New treated post will last about 5 to 7 years in concrete. This is partly due to the weaker treatment (Thank you EPA), and the fact you will not find old growth post. The utility companies have been using foam for utility post over 25 years. Proper foam has been tested and proven. The big benefit now, is FAST2K makes the post Waterproof. All current studies indicate, my barn will be here long after I am gone while post in concrete will fail in 10 years.

Sika has caused me a lot of work. I don't think it should be on the market. Their concrete works well, but their foam is bad. Thank you for the comment.

Fast 2K is completely waterproof and bonds to the wood. It also bonds to your shoe permanently if you get it on them. I have studied this stuff now, and Fast2K is the real deal.

I would guess SIKA would float for a bit. I think it is open cell foam, so I think it would fill with water. Fast2K should float forever.

Do you walk away from a post when using concrete? A person could build a system to hold a post level just like concrete. If I had a lot of posts to do, I would rig up something.

Chris, I think I need to fix the post I set with SIKA. A wind could lift the roof and the post out the ground with ease. There is nothing holding. It is a bit frustrating.

Sounds like they put too much co2 or whatever the chemical reaction is, too many air holes decreases it’s stability!

Gary, SIKA cost one dollar more than Fast 2K. I assumed Sika would be as good or better. I have used SIKA concrete for years. I think Sika foam should be removed from the market. I am a bit frustrated with the extra work caused. Well if it was easy, anyone could do it.

@@TonysTractorAdventure well your doing a great job I use to work construction for 10 years and then a saw an older man and said I don’t want to be in that shape when I get his age lol so I drove 18 wheeler for 10 years and now I drive a wheelchair lol for the past 20 years I lost my leg because of medical problems so I enjoy when I watch ur channel it takes me back when I could do all that stuff but ya it is a hard job and I know u have back problems so just don’t over due it that is my advice to ya take care 🙏🙏🙏🙏

@@TonysTractorAdventure Wasn't going for a "gotcha" kinda thing. I just hauled a very similar(same model) tym without backhoe and a JD 3720 with loader down the interstate and if that one was 7k then I would have had a bit of an issue with weight. But hey you do you lol

Is there like an unwritten law somewhere that dictates that all farms & rural properties must build pole barns even though all steel buildings-steel frame-sides-roof is cheaper-quicker- stronger-longer lasting ? Unless you harvest the poles from your own property an all steel building is cheaper. !

lowes has a post foamed into a bucket as a display for this stuff. the foam is all beat out from around the post leaving it sloppy in the hole. im in no way impressed with foam.

You are losing out. Buckets are made to have a non-stick surface. My barn has been through two 60 mph winds. FAST2K is the winner. Sikia shouldn't be in the market.

Concrete is proven. It is proven to rot post off. Fast 2K seals water out. It is the same foam utility post are put down with. After researching this, Fast 2K will at least double the life of a post over concrete. I am sure this is due to climate and water. We have a lot more rain than you do in Texas. 4x4 will rot off in 3 or 4 years in our area. The ground gets hot and wet here.

@@TonysTractorAdventure if you bell the top of your ready mix that’s around your post so water will run off and not leave it flat where the water will stand on top of the concrete and around the post will help quite a bit but I would be willing to try the fast 2k because I hate mixing concrete. Getting a little to old for that. LOL!

On my barn post, I poured a little extra so it would be above the soil level. I hate mixing concrete. I use to be the best choice, but pressure treated wood is not what it was in the 80s. The old stuff would last for 50 years.

Their website has all the tech stuff. Still, concrete is guaranteed to rot off a treated post. Like you said, posts are treated differently nowadays. Concrete wicks water to the posts.

I don't want my posts to rot off. Current pressure treated wood will last about 5 years before it rots off in concrete. Concrete acts as a wick drawing water to the post. Fast2K is superior to concrete for mounting post in every way.

Oh, and it is way easier to work with. No water needed. It is not heavy and all that is needed for cleanup was a trash bag. Concrete would have sucked at our location. There is no water to mix the concrete, and no water to clean up with.

I'm in solar mounting business and we use steel pilots imbedded in concrete but for wood i didn't have any idea that it would invite root . In my line of business concrete is better because it's conductor for grounding.. but this looks easy what is price comparison to concentrate?

Cement is an inferior choice. Current wood treatment will not hold up and current posts will rot off in a few years. Concrete wicks water to the post, causing the wood to rot faster. Wood treatment 20 years ago would hold up but not any longer. Short Story, concrete is a bad call.

Here is an idea. Don't be uninformed and make comments. Current treated post are not like they were 20 years ago. The EPA has made them safe for the environment, but they will rot off in concrete in 5 to 7 years. Fast2K encapsulates the post making it waterproof. It holds better than concrete, and does not rot the wood. Concrete wicks water to the wood. I apologize for being so direct; however, it was a measured response.
