Just got a Pro Junior IV as a little practise/travel amp and despite usually playing bigger amps (Morgan RCA35), this little thing has something magical. At bedroom volume, using my Fender Mex Strat, I feel immediately inspired and can't stop playing. Add a nice overdrive to it and you're golden. So far, I only liked 10" speakers with bass amps, but in this little amp, the Jensen is very responsive and makes you play very percussive. That's pure fun. I'm using OCD, ElecLady and Strymon Lex and El Capistan with it.

The point made around 10:30 is so brilliant. I've been going back and forth on that myself, but intuitively just decided that two speakers allow me more room to explore tones - switch one speaker out for something hotter, for example. I appreciate how you explained that the real difference is in the headroom. It's more of a tonal quality, a 3D kind of sound, would you say? Even just listening between the two on my laptop from videos like this, the Deville is noticeably fuller and richer. Excellent stuff, thanks, guys!

The Pro Junior is best run as a pedal platform in my opinion, run at about 5 on the volume. Also, replacing the 12ax7 with a 12ay7 makes for a sweeter, less angry sounding amp. It's a modern classic in my opinion and always thought it sounded better than the Blues Junior. Used by many pros in the studio. Always love getting a Deville as a backline amp! Great video guys!

For years i gigged with my old Fender Super Reverb... 4-10's, and it was a killer amp. And it was also a back killer amp. I moved over to a Tweed Blues Junior, and for most club gigs it's the perfect amp. Any larger, and it gets a mic. Perfect with pedals... I love my Tweed Blues Junior... (Of course I am 4 years too late for the video...hahahaha)
@autocrow5 жыл бұрын
I think the Blues Jr sounds the best in this demo. I tried one in the store against other amps including the deluxe and liked it the best there as well. Thick warm and tasty! I love the fat button. Unless you want to get REALLY loud like "knock you down, and you have to stand 50 yards away loud, it's plenty. I think people (I used to) believe a bigger amp is always better. Just turn down the volume right? Amps sound better turned up. If it's too loud turned up and you have it on 1, It won't sound it's best. I played in a band with a little 40W SS Mustang 2 with the volume at 2-3 and it was plenty loud for our little band. We played in front of as many as 60-70 people and had 5 guitar players. I could have used the Pro Jr. and had more than enough. You could mic into the PA if you wanted louder as well. People make it sound as if you need a huge amp to gig. BTW, The Blues Junior uses EL84s, not 6V6s.

The Pro Junior IV makes you work a bit more than bigger amps but when you find that sweet spot it rewards you with more harmonic complexity. I use a TC MojoMojo overdrive and a touch of reverb and the amp morphs into a little monster. Small amps do their magic at reasonable volume which is more fun than trying to use a bigger amp that never reach output tube saturation in most real world situations. My big amps are getting a lot less play at home now that I have the Pro Junior IV.
@christopherpetrich95182 жыл бұрын
Picked up the Pro Junior IV last year. A/B'd it with my Tweed Blues Jr III and sold the Blues Jr. The PJ is a tone machine. I've jammed with it and gigged with it mic'd up and sounded great.
@benlogan4304 жыл бұрын
Just got a Pro Junior III new the other day! It’s the sweetest! Small, lite and loud enough for gigs! Just add reverb and it would be perfect for me. As is it’s almost perfect! Sounded just the way I like with the Lester Paul!

You guys are awesome and made me smile more than once during the video. WRT the BJ IV, the Fender website says that the power amp has 2 x EL84's in it, not 6V6? Did I miss anything?

3 or 4? I'll pass, the version one sounded better and had that classic Fender amp tone. Fender ruined the tone and strayed from the classic Fender tone. The version 4 sounded darker and the reverb less lush. Fender is trying to make it sound like an old Marhall amp IMHO.
@naxxodrop7 жыл бұрын
There is nosense because the Fender amps that try to sound like old marshall is the Bassbreaker. Anyway, if you want to sound barely like the 50's fender amps, Blues Deluxe and Blues DeVille do the job pretty awesome in a not expensive way.

Great playing, Lee. Outrageous sounds coming out of mid-range Fender tube amps!
@MrTentpegs7 жыл бұрын
Hey guys, nice vid as always! I do have one humble request, however. When you are demo'ing an amp, perhaps you could mix in a mid-range Ibanez, Schecter, or a Classic Vibe? Something that the majority of us can afford, rather than a custom shop fender strat. I'd just like to hear what the amp is going to make my "less stellar" guitars sound like. Thanks and keep jamming!
@shred12korn5 жыл бұрын
I believe most of the tone comes from the Amp. Just my opinion. Guitar mainly to me is a tone shaper not a tone maker.
@williamlittlefield47495 жыл бұрын
I have 23 guitars - Epiphones, Reverend, Danelectro, G&L, Fender, Gibson, Washburn, Slick, LTD, Schecter, and Squier - none over $1000 and they all sound great through this amp. Tone is in the amp and fingers for the most part. No Ibanez guitars in my collection, but my LTD Hybrid II and Classic Vibe Strat sound awesome through my Deluxe.@@shred12korn

I really don't think sound will change much past a certain price point. Build quality and playability, more so. I tried four Fender teles in a shop once, from 500-ish to about 1500. The more expensive ones had more range in their pickup selection, but ultimately sounded similar to the 500, which in itself sounded great.

The guy's got a point about " a good guitar player " making an amp sound good. A good guitar player sounds good even with the volume off. This guy's choice of phrasing is sweet and soulful. I bought a brand new hot rod Deville in 2005. I tried both the 2x12 and the 4x10 side by side and chose the 4x10 because I thought it had a better fuller tone. It sounds great clean and loves pedals.
