Move everything back to the United States , we need the jobs . Ford reversed its decision to build a Mexican plant , and if they hadn't , this Ford loyalist in Pick-ups and SUV's would have moved on . Having said that , I have an old pre-CBS Tele , it was made in the U.S. by an American Company . Guess Fender is looking for tax breaks . In reality however , can't blame them or Ford's original plans . Corporate tax rates here are through the roof , and if Democrats are successful they will go higher . Oh well . It's all politics . Lower the Corporate tax rate ! Build it here . Jobs !

@randyb11148 жыл бұрын
The differences between MIM & MIA are as follows: The MIM is made with the exact same parts as the MIA, in fact almost all the parts are made in the US and then shipped to Mexico to be assembled. The distance between the US plant and the Mexico plant is only about 100+km... Now the MIM Tele is made with "Blemished" Tele body's and necks, but that doesn't mean they are defective in any way, they just might have the weird wood grain patterns showing, like in my MIM Tele ,or an "unperfect" body (a non-perfect, or end piece of wood)... Now the sound difference between the two guitars in this vid are because the way the pickups are made. The MIM pickups are machine wound so they are wound tighter because of this process, and they are also MIM. The MIA Tele pickups are hand wound, not as tight = different sound... Hope that helps
@pcollenyt36837 жыл бұрын

@edian18958 жыл бұрын
Both are very reliable. I own the mexican one with brown sunburst finish. It's really one of the best guitars i've played. I listened this with good speakers and a focusrite 2i2. The mexican one has a smoother/mellower sound than the american one. The american one has more treble and mids in its tone thus it's more present in the mix than the mexican tele i guess. The mexican tele sounds VERY good with pedals btw. I think both are good guitars soundwise. You never can go wrong with both of them. But i like the mexican one more because i don't like the body inlay of the american. It's a shame fender did that to the american telecasters.

I definitely love my MIM Tele better than the US Standards, all preference though as mentioned in a lot of other comments. Another big thing though is if you take your MIM Fender Tele, Strat, Jag, whatever it is, and get it professionally set up by a reputable guitar tech, and eventually some new pickups (in the Tele's case, I recommend N4 Noiseless pickups when they go on the market by themselves, the new Fender Elite Telecasters have N4s, and they're the best Tele pickup I've ever heard!) then you have yourself an amazing Tele that YOU love for a few hundred cheaper than you'd pay for a US Standard!

I owned a MIM, put some nice Fender US pickups in it and then bought a really nice US telecaster with the same pickups in it. After about 4 months the US telecaster ended up on e-Bay. It was beautiful, but no matter how much I tried to convince myself the MIM was as nice and I actually preferred playing it. And when you have a $2k guitar sitting that does exactly the same thing as the one that cost you $400 it's a no-brainer. And that's not the case with a lot of imports. I started out with cheap guitars and upgraded many of them and they never turned out as nice as the real deal except for with the Fender stuff. It's just such a simple design and the woods are so similar that the biggest differences are electronics and fit and finish. If you can level frets, work on a nut, and do a good setup you can make a MIM telecaster into a killer guitar. The best bang for the buck guitar out there in my opinion.

Nice demo. I own both a MIM tele and a MIA (both made in the last few years), and this is pretty much how they sound. The MIM's tone is fatter, has more low-mids, and the MIA is brighter, with more clarity, which can be heard in the video if you listen closely. Also the MIM pickups are ceramic and much higher output than the twisted tele pickups on the MIA. I was planning on letting one of mine go, but they honestly sound different enough that I will probably keep both.

It pains me to see that they added a body contour on the back of the american teles. one of the defining features that draws me to telecasters is their plain and simple completely flat slab body, and then they went and ruined it by adding a stupid belly cut. also the mexican sounded a hell of a lot better to my ears, the american was a bit too thin

Its worth noting that the new baja MIM tells have the exact same pickups as the american tele in this video and a much more impressive pickup selection setup - with a phase selection button built into the volume knob. They also have a V shape neck similar to what you might find on a custom shop fender with a flatter fret board. I don't own either but I'm currently considering a american deluxe thinline with the noiseless pickups - the baja made in Mexico model is half the price and arguably a more versatile guitar.

I think the biggest difference is psychological. If you think spending the 1200 or so dollars for an american one will get you a better guitar more power to you. Bottom line you get what you pay for. I've never ever wanted to change the pups in a MIM tele, but I can't say the same for MIM Strats of which I've had a few. To my mind the Tele gives the most 'fenderish' sound having not been particularly overwhelmed by any flavour of Strat, although a Strat fitted with Tonerider Surfaris was probably the best. The tele bridge pickup gives me the bite I'd have expected from a Strat bridge, but I've always been disappointed.

Most important factors for me: neck finish and belly cut. I believe the MIAs have gloss fretboard and satin back, not sure about the MIMs, and MIAs have a belly cut and MIM don't. I've owned a Les Paul and couldn't bond 100% with it because it just wasn't very comfortable to play because it hurt my ribs after a while. Teles do have a different body shape, and I have played a MIM standard without noticing the straight angled corners, but I don't know if they would be comfortable to play for an hour straight.
@tedbelmont9 жыл бұрын
Lennart N a real tele doesn't have a belly cut. James Burton, Steve Cropper, Bruce Springsteen, Albert Collins, Jimmy Page, Roy Buchanan, Joe Strummer all managed with the original without a belly cut. Man up!!
@boynamedlen9 жыл бұрын
edward beaumont Your point being? Forgive me if comfort is more important to me than it being a 'real' Tele. It's one thing to have to struggle with a big neck or something, but if a guitar doesn't fit my body right to the point that it physically hurts, it's impossible to bond with it and my playing suffers badly. Man down!
@someweirdguy1019 жыл бұрын
Nut width of MIA is wider than MIM - he didn't mention this in the video but you can find the specs on Fender's website. It's a noticeable difference in feel. I personally prefer the sound of the Mexican tele in this demo.

Surprised guy reporting in. Both guitars sounded really great overall. I'm partial to the attack and bell quality on the American...plus the rolled edges....plus the balanced pickups where you can hear every note ringing in the chord....but really...The Mexican wasn't off-base in the least. Really solid sounding.
@eliasfigueroa33245 жыл бұрын
I think it just comes down to what kind of work you do...if you are more of a live performer and go more on tours, a Mexican makes more sense. But if your in the studio mostly and doing more recordings, an American might be slightly more advantageous. I play rhythm guitar mostly at my church, so a used Mexican Strat is what I bought. I feel like also getting a used Mexican Tele just expand my range a bit and achieve specific tones for specific sets.

Hi everybody......... crowd responds, "Hi, Dr. Nick!" Any Simpsons fans here? No? .......Anyway, here's my two cents that nobody asked for.........This was has been quite helpful for me to compare them. Speaking of which what really helped me was to go to 1:28 and 4:00 minutes, respectively. Doing that really helped me hear some differences. I actually skipped to him playing so that I wouldn't know which is which, until after I chose. Yes, the MIM sounds definitely warmer here. Though, I'm wondering if tweeking the tone knob and/or the pick-up selector knob would help the MIA. I've been looking to get a Tele lately. A little background on me, if anyone cares. For about 15 years I've been a Epiphone man. Two LP's and a ES-335 Pro. All beautiful guitars. Say what you will about Gibsons vs. Epiphones but I do love my EPi's. Play well, feel great, and sound great to me! Plus,......price tag. Recently, I wanted to balance things out and buy a Tele. Somethings I've noticed and learned, that this video seems to demonstrate are: 1. The difference in tone. I've played a MIM Tele in a store and it felt good and sounded good. I was surprised. I actually preferred it to the MOA. Then again, I do go for a warmer tone (15 years of Epi's will do that.) I tried a MIM and it did sound warmer in comparison. 2. Know YOUR style. From what I understand, Tele's are known for being excellent Country music guitars (twangy, clean, and BRIGHT). They can do Blues and Rock, but Country was what they were made for. I like Country, but my style is definitely more Blues, and Rock. So, the warmer I can get, while having that Tele sound, the better. For that reason, I think I'm going to go with MIM. I'd rather tweek for the highs than for the lows.....well, that and price tag.

I'd add that in my experience the Mexican Teles weigh close to pound more than the American version. It seems as if they save the lighter woods for the American Standards, which can be found under 7 pounds if you look for them. Most Mexican Teles fall around 8 lbs. give or take a few ounces. So if weight is an issue, look at the American Standards.

I can tell you mate. Nothing, I walked this road for a fair distance and took both apart and fixed both. Very new and way back to 1968 for my oldest. The price hits in the face, workers in America get paid more. Look at it all, the main stuff is made here in America like the necks and bodies. Some of the Americans have a two point bridge but in many situations they both have the 5 screws. Much of the electronics are from Asia. The pickups not much difference. I change them be it a fender or a Gibson. I put Lace on my MIM Strat because they came with my 1968 . The real Fender name it iconic to rock and roll. That's the name on my MIM Strat also. I could sit here and trade parts between guitars all day long and you and I would be as mixed up as a fart in a fan factory. Both great guitars. The Squier is a different story.

+ZShenlong1 That's what I thought. Perhaps you and I have cheap ears?!

+Peter Thompson Nope, we just like a warm and full guitar sound and not a sharp [somewhat shrill] sound.
@SirLumsalot9 жыл бұрын
+ZShenlong1 The MIM was far warmer than the US. But US was cleaner on the body pick-up. I think he forgot to switch to the neck pick-up in the second half for the US made.

sounded better to me too. MIA has a too shiny sound for me

But that's the beauty of how a Tele is supposed to sound.

Shockingly, I prefer the sound of the MIM. I like the darker clear tone. The MIA sounds kinda tinny & sharp. JMHO.

Also, if you remove the factory finish, just so far and respray the guitar, I go to a local auto body shop,after I done the work a dude sprayed it with a very thin coat of classic white.

Which one sounds better it’s all a matter of opinion . I had an American Standard Tele and an American special Tele. Aside from those two, I still to this day own a made in Mexico Ash body standard tele Enough said..The other ones just didn’t do it for me.

Guys I have both the Mexican and the American version. Sound wise, to me not a lot of difference really, the extra money for the American version is definitely on the quality of the materials used i.e. wood, pick-ups, bridge components, tuners. If you can't afford the American, which is minutely better , then go for the Mexican, you won't be disappointed!! Keep on playing!!

Sure enjoyed the chord progressions & sound. A good bit different from most.

Iam highly impressed from the mexican tele. I going to keep an eye on her.

Compare the Sound is good ! ...but any difference can easily be solved changing pickups, The real Question here ...is How they feel ! ? and The Weight ? and The Action (on their best setup).? Mexican Version hold the Tuning ? If you can Give us this info, will be Great !! .. Any Way, Great video ! Thank You.

MIM has the same as US Tele locking tuners. No problems with the tune.

@savanaviolenta7 жыл бұрын
the difference is in electronics,MIA better electronics,alnico pickups,selected woods,better finish,definitely not worth the triple price of a MIM,the Mexican Fenders are workhorses,great sounding guitars.

This might be a stupid Question but is there a big difference between the mexican build tele and a Squier classic vibe custom tele ?

Can someone please tell me the chords he's playing at 1:30? Sounds nice!!
@BuckleyFan969 жыл бұрын
Hey! The first three chords of the progression are A Maj, B Maj, D flat minor. The trick is to bar them as per, but leave the B and high e string open. This would mean fretting the root on the low e with your thumb (think of Hendrix style chord shaping) and the rest normal fretting. Hope I helped :)

+Ka Ko Hey I just tried playing the way you explained..and it sounds absolutely perfect ..Thanks a lot!!!
Yeah MIM has warm sound but MIA got tight/bright/twangy and clean sound.

I bought a handmade/carved leather belt for 15 bucks in Ensenada in 2008. It still keeps my pants up and looks better than ever. I love the old skool feel of Mexican Tele and the sound is more earthy and natural to my ears than the US standard. Mexicans know their shit!!!
@gradytrainor81205 жыл бұрын
Comparing tone seems unfair since they have different pickups. The main difference I see is the fit and finish. Honestly throw some good pickups in the MIM and you will have a great guitar for half the price.

I bought a mia standard strat brand new in boxed and ordered by retailer from fender directly. I bought a set of bareknuckle pickups to upgrade, to my surprise the bodey was a 4 piece, I was shocked how unpro the solderings was. The cap clearly had made in mexico stamped on it so the 5 way switch. I took it back and got an exchange, I asked them to take the pichguard off in the shop and it was exactly the same!!!! So I went for the mexican standard strat and went back home with over £700 in my pocket. And that mim that I got to my surprise sounded so so much better than the mia that I bought. Now with bare knuckles I cant ask for a better guitar.

The American Standard sounds like a telecaster should.. The MIM Telecaster is too well mannered for my tastes. However, given the price difference you could get some serious upgrades for the MIM version and still save a fortune on what the American standard will cost you.
@craigsurface91479 жыл бұрын
American Standards always sound too thin and lifeless in my opinion. I've owned and played both. Much prefer MIM fenders anyday over the USA made.
@EbenezarGold9 жыл бұрын
+Craig Surface I put in some nice wiring pots, jack, switch and a '62 AVRI pup in the bridge and my MIM really came alive after that. Stock it was really good, just fine really. One thing I like about the MIM is you can put on vintage bridge plate/saddles without any fuss.
@craigsurface91479 жыл бұрын
Awesome man. I have a slightly modded Fender "Squier Series" fiesta red Stratocaster (far from a Squier) MIM that I'd put up against any USA made. Technically it was rebranded USA necks and repainted bodies with squier hardware and mexican pickups and electronics. If you take the neck off you will see USA stamps on them in the neck pocket. Ive swapped tuners and bridge saddles. I'm not against USA made just don't think they are quite worth the asking price and sometimes sound and play worse.
@RegularRetro9 жыл бұрын
+Craig Surface It's good to see people are mostly positive on MIM Fenders. I have a MIA strat and I was really impressed with the overall build quality and sound, the thing is I was upgrading from made in China Squire so anything would have impressed me. I do eventually want a MIM Tele cause I really like the cleans on them and I want a fixed bridge guitar.
@tawermeister997 жыл бұрын
Does anybody know if I can switch out hunbuckers with P 90's and it will fit perfectly in the cavity? Like it won't be loose or anything? I really want a particular fender tele. But it comes with humbuckers and I prefer P 90's.
@gkloeg6 жыл бұрын
You forgot to mention the number of frets. I bought a mexican stratocaster which turned out to have one fret less than my american standard. Big diffence sometimes. Especially when you use heavy strings.
@dominicaitkenhead47565 жыл бұрын
I'm actually more interested in how they both play. Sound wise there is a difference but not one that warrants spending the big bucks for a US version. Played clean, they sound very similar imo
@lenquinn996510 жыл бұрын
MIM vs MIA .. The main differences are price (almost a grand difference in Canada), the MIA has better pups, pots, switch.. better finish. But I have played MIM teles and strats that sounded and felt almost as good at MIA versions. But if you want a solid every day player and don't want to spend an extra grand, search around and test drive several MIM's and I'll bet you'll find one you like. You won't find a new MIM that will sound great out of the box. You'll need a setup done.
