@@jonathanhandsmusic it's your phone lol. It's hard to capture the noiseless pickups' annoyances - that I can only describe as clickity click. They are getting better at emulating single coils, but they are still sterile sounding where it counts - they will also always be a compromise. I play at home volume and I always reshield all my guitars in proper copper, so hum isn't a problem. maybe I am not the best judge for the usefulness of these pickups. But I have three sets of various generations of noiseless (and the horrible S-1) sitting around in ziplocs after getting torn out of guitars.

This is my most played KZbin video ever! Been wanting an Ultra for ages and finally took the plunge just before Christmas, chopping in three other guitars to get a Cobra Blue SSS Strat (from Andertons of course!). Loved it so much, I had to get a Tele too, so have just traded three other guitars to get a Tele in Mocha Burst (Andertons again….where else?!) which is just stunning (to look at as well as play) and is even better than the Strat. These guitars are just so good. When I picked up the Tele they had just got an Arctic White Pearl in stock and it just looked fantastic…perhaps I need to get saving! If anyone is hesitating to get an Ultra, don’t…just do it! 😁

I must admit I was sceptical of the Ultra. Having watched this video and being an Elite strat player, I'm very impressed. Apart from possibly the S-1 switch change the new Ultra looks like a real step forward. My only criticism of the Elite was the lack of rolled fretboard edges, but Fender seem to have sorted that. The new colours are stunning also. Well done Fender, this one will sell in bucketloads!

Wow, I'm super pumped that I was able to snag an Elite Strat before they decontented the ability of the S1 button with the Ultra series.
@JROD0823845 жыл бұрын
And I'm not mistaken when I say decontented. Fender has removed with the Ultra at least 4 different pickup/tonal variations from the Elite SSS and at least 5 from the Elite HSS, thus removing content (i.e. decontenting) and reducing the overall capability of the instrument. The Ultra is only an upgrade if you don't care about tonal experimentation and just want a shred machine. Otherwise, in my eyes, the Ultra is a downgrade from the Elite.

I bought this guitar in the tea leaf color. Love the sound and look. It is my first Tele. When I was in the shop I compared it to a few others including the Elite, Player, and a 50's replica. This one sounded much sweeter to my ears and the S-1 switch gives a smooth punch, but I did not like the neck profile so much . It also needed a set-up, dont let them tell you otherwise. The pick-guard looks cool but hitting it with a pick or finger nail will feel like a shiver to the pickle, literally feels like nails on a chalkboard, swapping mine out for PVC one. I think once I get the pick-guard replaced and lower the action, it will be my favorite guitar. I also own a few strats, a Les Paul custom, and a Martin accoustic.

I started to prefer the texture and thus more character from a professional series. I also love some of the CS PuPs but that’s a whole new bag. For me this video demonstrates texture and character being reintroduced to the ultra series of noiseless PuP design. Especially the HSS strat given it’s slightly hotter PuPs. Another good example of how preference and beauty is in the ear and eye of the beholder 👍

As a proud owner of an American Elite, it makes me sad when companies like Fender make you feel bad about what was once their flagship factory model.
@libertylizard_5 жыл бұрын
Not necessary. The Elites are still exceptional guitars, especially the Tele thinlines. Fender needs to innovate as a company; of which, they still get kicked for not bringing enough for the price. The Pro/Elite range was well priced, well equipped and sounding. No sadness needed. Always enjoy what you have. Listening to these, they are all nice across the board; plenty of potential. Certainly not worth throwing away an Elite over however, sans wanting the neck variation/play-ability.
@bmgpass53945 жыл бұрын

The Captain made a comparison of the Ultra necks to the necks on the Suhr guitars. However, a pretty significant difference is that the Suhrs (both Strat and Tele style) are just 1.650" nut width, whereas the Fender Ultras are 1.685" at the nut. More like a Les Paul. Having large hands, I much prefer the wider nut width.

My first guitar, which I still have, is a super duper cheap Chinese knockoff Strat with the normal truss rod adjustment position, and it is a pain in the rear end to get the hex key lined up just right to adjust the rod.

Those knockoff strats can be halfway decent sometimes lol

@@johnballs1352 I bought it and a practice amp from Aldi as a set for $100 over a decade ago. Doesn't get much cheaper than that, but it was the best I could afford at the time, I guess.

Finally they nailed the heel. I already went suhr, and gonna be honest, it’s far superior to any fender I’ve ever played. A whole different league.

Zero history or pride of ownership for me though. As a kid I grew up watching my heroes playing Gubson, Fender, Gretsch and Ibanez. Now I'm older I want what they played back then, not some modern boutique equivalent. I do dig the stainless frets and QC but really don't aspire to own a Suhr.
@Slothclawcolseslaw5 жыл бұрын
@@adamski101 I know what you mean, I originally bought an American Pro because i wanted the name. But i have more pride in my Suhr than I have of my fender. Its cool knowing that it (subjectively) doesnt get better. With my fender I was never happy, wishing I could change this or that, and I even did a Warmoth parts caster to get the features I wanted, it just wasnt quite right, but with my Suhr theres not a thing i would have different about it, and it suits all my needs. My current guitar influences (Pete Thorn, Mateus Asato) are Suhr players, which didnt have a big impact on my choice, but helps a bit! More power to you if you want to play what your heroes play! I do recommend trying Suhr if you happen upon a dealer!

Fender: "Why the sales of our modern strats are fading away?" Also Fender: Strips away selected woods, LSR Roller Nut, the modern truss rod adjustment of the elite, the passing lane switch, the S1-switching and has no steel frets. Just put all the cool modern stuff on a strat and I buy one. Even my old 2012 Deluxe has more modern features than the new Elite.

I'm buying a MiM. I just want a strat, if you know what I mean
@slowbend43905 жыл бұрын
@@panama1942 That's perfectly fine. I know most people want a normal strat. I criticize fender that they don't have the balls to ONE series with the modern stuff. For people who want a "normal" strat, fender has the player, (MiM) deluxe, performer, professional, original and some more series. They had exactly one series with all the modern stuff, which was the MiA Deluxe and then Elite. And now they dumb it down instead of ramping it up with the stuff all the other brands do.

@@slowbend4390 I’m Not sure why a lot of you guys are harping on about this guitar in a negative way, I just got one of these in Plasma Red Burst and its freekin awesome. The new features are all on point and the pickups sound great. The Humbucker is great and the build quality is up there with the boutique builders. I have 2 Suhr guitars and know what a good guitar should feel and play like and these new Ultras fit the bill. I have been a bit anti Fender since Suhr guitars came to the table and made great guitars but Fender have got this right even if they did copy some of Johns ideas. Saying that, there are a few innovations that Johns guitars don’t have, and he might just borrow those ideas, lol
@slowbend43905 жыл бұрын
@@peterdadswell7998 Because Fender keeps stripping the features away. Build quality is clearly important, but when they ramp up the price, why can't they leave the modern wirings etc in the guitar? The new truss rod adjustment is just better than the old one at the headstock. The LSR nut had it's weak points, but as for the deluxe they could only have it in the HSS strat for more heavy tremolo action. Fender advertises like they reinvented the guitar, but more things got back to the older state than other way around.
@peterdadswell79985 жыл бұрын
@@slowbend4390 This is a new direction for Fender and a lot of refinements and they still have their meat and potatoes ranges for a lot less than the ultra. for that matter, the ultra is in a different class t\like Suhr guitars and even they have different price points but nothing as cheap as the fender player series.

For those on a budget save money and get a MIM strat. I had a Clapton that now sells for 2500 and sold it and bought a MIM strat. I spent a couple hours fine tuning it and like it more than the Clapton. That being said, if you have the money buy whatever feels good when you play it. I have the money to buy any guitar I desire, my two favorites are a MIM tele I swapped pickups to American Vintage 52's and put in a 5 way switch and the MIM strat that is the same as I bought it. I also believe the more time you put into a guitar and make it yours (kinda like a song you make your own) the pride and ownership feels better than a decked out best hardware from the box 3000 plus guitar.
