On the subject of the pick ups I believe they went for that just because Jon put some fender pickups in his 50s Stratocaster and he probably liked it so why not go for the same fender custom shop high and pick ups for the 60s? I mean if he was fine with the SSL's or the random American made whatever Stratocaster pickups, I'm sure he's gonna be happy with these hand made ones. Would've been great if fender did one of those videos where they show footage of the master build team checking the guitar. We can only hope that they will shine a light on the mystery of these pickups that we never knew for sure.. but honestly if he doesn't have the original ones from 62 any other boutique high-end 60s vibe pick ups will do😅
@Doggywoggydog2k112 ай бұрын
I think when it comes to guitars at this price “it will do” shouldn’t be relevant. If there’s a replica being built they should take the pickups out of the original and try and replicate them as close as possible. I get your point though. But at that point they should’ve built a forward facing sig model and not a faithful replica
@thegoodguy442 ай бұрын
Abigail Ybarra came out of retirement earlier this year. The video, search for it on here, “Abigail Ybarra and Castedosa. The ABI Model”, is what she was working on earlier this year. She is very elderly. So you can bet your bottom dollar that she wound these pickups for these guitars. But like he said in this video, John would not have tested the pickups and offered any modifications, Mike Mccreedy certainly did. If John had been involved they would have been advertising that big time. They are probably just going to be Custom shop 60’s of whatever John chose, but Abigail either wound all of them, or oversaw the winding while it was happening. She’s so elite that she could probably wind a single pickup in 20 minutes. So she could have done all of them over a few weeks. It’s not crazy numbers of pickups she had to wind.
@johnpickk75262 ай бұрын
You don't seem to understand what the word retired means. Just because she still winds the occasional pickup, doesn't mean she's back in full time employment.

@@johnpickk7526 I didn’t say she is working full time once in what I wrote. I specifically said she could have wound the pickups for John’s guitars in a few weeks at the speed she can wind them. As he seems to be very particular about his gear and didn't want to have a single piece changed when you're following the words of his technicians. His white '63 Strat is rather an exception when it comes to modifications.

I gave some thought about this guitar. It's one of the best relic jobs I've seen and I have to give it to them for doing such a good job. It's way better than the prototypes John had on the road. I wouldn't be able to play the guitar though, because I would want it to stay in the state that John had it and not add my own wear. So, in the end, I think it would be better to buy a vintage refin strat with that same money instead. This is a guitar that you buy because in 10 years it will double or triple in value.

Add the SSL-1 and standard Fender pickups mentioned a few times in some Dave Lee interviews and it becomes even more bland. Don't get me wrong, I love Frusciante and his tone and would love to have this guitar in my hands, but it is more about the visuals. Slap the same relic pattern on a road-worn strat and it will still sell out, but not for 20k. Obviously not interested in the masterbuilt version, I would have been in the Mexican version but if it has the 7.25 radius and narrow tall frets combination, like the masterbuilt, this is a recipe for a high action and not to my taste. I can’t fucking stand narrow tall frets. Such a shame…

Even if you had $20,000 laying around, you would be better buying almost anything else. Custom Shop guitars are nice, but the Master Builts, which I have owned, are not worth the extra few thousand dollars. Include Frusciante with Fender for ripping off the public. Frucsciate does not need the extra cash, but that did not stop him.

The "Custom Shop" and its "Master Builders" is the biggest cash-grab in modern guitar history, along with those insanely-priced Gibson limited editions. They use the exact same woods as the regular run guitars, nothing remotely special about them. But businesses will do what businesses do, obviously- it's maximally lucrative for them, so why not. The Custom Shop used to be worthy of its name, but now it just churns out stuff by the tens of thousands, and does "limited editions" like this of standard spec'd instruments with some extra relic work. None of the wood is hand-carved, all the "master builders" do is assemble + setup, they don't even paint them- and I'm not sure who does the relic work. These guitars are not inspired, magical, pieces of art- they are just a byproduct of late-stage capitalism and merely bargaining chips for the rich who will never play them. Sad state of affairs, surprised Frusciante even signed off on this tbh.

Wow! Your attitude just sucks! What a sad person you are. I guarantee if you had the money you would buy one of these. Almost everything you said is wrong. I’ve been to the custom shop and the wood they source is definitely better quality than the regular run guitars.

Simply ridiculous! Respect for John as a great guitarist, but that's it.

It will be out of the price range of 99% of guitarists, and that is a shame? Even the Mexican version will be overpriced!

John being difficult about the project because it's gonna lead attention away from his solo work, ha-ha! He should talk to Yamaha for a new SG2000, THAT would be awesome. Not for 20 grand though!

The lackluster music, that the Red Hot Chili Peppers make today, is such a tragic shame, that I’m embarrassed to wear my Chili Peppers shirts out in public….😖

I've seen much nicer, less demolished looking vintage 60`s Strat's for going under 30k, so why on earth if i have the coin should i buy this guitar instead of a vintage 1962 Strat? Just because its a Frusciante replica? If you make just one ding more, its not a Frusciante Replica anymore but a new danged up guitar for 20k. And all this masterbuild stuff, come on, its still a Strat, the on purpose most basic bolt on guitar type. There simply isn't that much to 'masterwork' on such a simple instrument and if there is, then why on hell does a custom shop exist anyway? Same goes for 'Kirk's' Greeny Replica.

Again prove Fender is only in it for the money. What a ridicilous price.😲🤬🤬🤬

A 20k guitar doesn't make the person a better player either. It's for people with no sense. Money grab.
