I’m not from the US, but worked in Seattle for a couple of months. I’ve always been a guitar player and wanted an acoustic one. So one day I went to Guitar Center, and I remember my friend told me “You have one hour, then we’re gone”. I got inside the acoustic room and tried almost every guitar there 😂. I even played +$15.000 ones (I was on a $500 budget tho). The time was over and I liked an Epiphone that was nice, but not in love. I swear I said “Let try one more”, and I randomly chose a black Fender. I played just a single open E chord and it was an ecstasy on my brain. Absolute goosebumps. I found it. And I’m still in love ❤

The mahogany brings out more chime tho. Spruce is more harsh tonally and that shows in this comparison. While yes the Tusk nut and saddle have more resonance and sustain those can easily be added to the 60

I bought a CD-60S (mahogany) a bit over a year ago. The Alamo videos were quite helpful in comparing alternatives, so thank you for that. (I especially liked the consistency in the demos. Chris is probably tired of those same three songs, but if you're trying to listen for subtle differences, keeping as much the same as possible is important.) Even after more recently picking up a Taylor (414CE, cedar top - the 2019 Summar NAMM LTD), I still like the sound of the Fender, and break it out occasionally, even if that does make the Taylor jealous. Is the Fender as good as the Taylor? No. But then, look at the price difference. The Fender is a terrific value. I'd agree with the comments on the plastic nut and saddle. I swapped mine out for bone (pre-cut parts were like $8), and the difference was quite noticeable even to my novice ears. A lot more volume as well as some improvement in the tone. Two things I noticed while doing the work: first, the plastic (of unspecified type) actually feels a little soft. It's not foam rubber, but if you squeeze it between finger and thumb, it's got a tiny give that bone or TUSQ just doesn't have. That's probably the volume difference; you don't really want a flexible material absorbing string energy. The other thing was the saddle had some grooves worn under the each string - this with less than 200 hours of play. I don't know why Fender picked that material, but I'd certainly recommend just replacing it out of the gate. (I didn't find that hard to do, actually, though breaking the nut off is a little scary when you're not used ot it.) I lowered the action a bit while I was at it, to match the specs on the Taylor. Everybody has their own preference in that regard -- but I expect acoustics tend to ship a bit high from the factory, simply because it's a one-way trip through the saddle when you start sanding it. You can lower a high action, but you can't raise a low one (without replacing the saddle), so the factories probably aim to be on the higher end of the scale. The only other traditional symptom of a cheap guitar that I noticed was rough fret ends, especially over the top. Just clipped them and shipped 'em, I guess. Not sharp enough to cut, and indeed not something I ever noticed while playing, but it did snag my cleaning cloth, and once I noticed, it was one of those annoyances you can't shake. So, a few more videos on fret dressing and $80 of StewMac tools, and I got another lesson in guitar tech work. But then, that too is a useful thing to learn about guitars, even if I don't plan on becoming a luthier. I don't regret the purchase at all. Certainly a good way to get started, but it's also had some lasting value to me.

@@misaelmartinezrojas5569 The guitar shipped with standard Fender factory action, 6/64ths bass, 5/64th treble. Roughly 2.5 / 2 mm. I think most makers ship acoustics a bit on the high side, because lowering the action means sanding down the bottom of the saddle, and that's a one-way trip through the part. It's much harder to raise the action than it is to lower it to your own preferences. So that makes sense to me as a manufacturing policy. As a learning experience, I replaced the nut and saddle with bone -- the factory saddle is quite soft, as saddles go -- and lowered the action another 1/64th while I was at it. I found it playable as a beginner, though I didn't have a lot of experience to which to compare it. But I did prefer it that little bit lower.

Hands down the CD140SCE is my choice. I have this model in Mahogany. Why did I buy this model? I dig the warm, rich sound plus a good balanced bass which sounds beautiful through a amp. I liked the fact that the nut and saddle are not plastic but nu-bone. The fret-board and action is really excellent. No sharp frets, and the big plus on this model is it sounds really good, with that beautiful mahogany wood which in time as it ages will just keep on improving your sound. I am a intermediate player and sound and fret-board comfort is very important to me. Another plus is the Fender Fishman which is quality. I liked the scalloped bracing for strength of the guitar. The up-graded components on this model is very good. If you are serious about playing the guitar then get this model because the playability is really comfortable. Really excellent value for money. Thank You for a great cover on these 2 Fender acoustic guitars. 😀👍

I put a bone nut and saddle on my Fender cheapie acoustic. They noticeably changed the tone for the better, and while I was at it, I got the action where I like it. Own a black Fender Gemini from 1987. Original owner. Built like a tank. It's a beast. Never goes out of tune. Relatively poor playability when faced up against modern guitars. It has hollow sound. Plastic nut / saddle / bridge plate. Also, it has a three piece top - I can actually see the joints with a close up look. You know it's laminate. Built in Korea from unknown lumber. It is the kind of guitar that would turn off the new player. It certainly did for me when I put it into storage back in the day (lol). It's in great shape and now considered vintage....no reason to part with it. There's definitely a sentimental attachment to it. I use it now as my Dobro fantasy guitar in Open G. :) Actually demo'd it recently.

I'm aware of Fender acoustics but because Fender is so known for their electric guitars their acoustics fly under the radar. When I see a musician playing a Fender acoustic it's always catches my attention. I picked up a spruce and Mahogany model PMTE and that was one of the best packaged acoustic bundles I ever played in the price range and don't understand why they discontinued them after only a short time. Is knit picky but I don't like their standard acoustic pickguards or traditional electric headstocks on acoustics and I've noticed Fender seems to be transitioning away from this which may help sales. I think these 2 models in this video compare really close to Yamaha equivalent model.

People worry too much about price. I recently bought a $75 beginner guitar from Amazon and i was pleasantly surprised by how bad IT WASN'T... you hear all the horror stories but really its just word of mouth.. i just purchased the Fender CD 60 SCE mahogany with plans to "move up" to a Taylor but when i took that Fender out of its high quality hard case, i was mesmerized by its stunning beauty! I tuned it up, strummed her in G and i was blown away! Its solidly built, sounds beautiful and looks like it costs a lot more than it does; which begs the question: is it necessary to buy a $3000 Taylor so you dont have a "beginner guitar" and feel like you have moved up?? Taylors sound great. So do Gibsons, Martins, Yamahas, Ovations, and, of course, Fenders... you'll be hard pressed to find a good reason to pay $5000 for a guitar when it simply ISN'T $5000 BETTER. ..

@@itsduck8415 yes it can be loud, but I would define it more as 'presence'. The volume is controllable, you can play it quiet or loud. But very often if you are singing at an 'open mic' or in a pub you might have a mic for vocals anyway. Going back to presence, it has a 'cut' so if you are playing in a band, you will still hear it, not so much due to volume but by the clear definition of its sound.

For $399 hard to beat in terms of sound, feel, and it's a beautiful instrument with a solid Mahogany top, layered backs and sides, scalloped bracing, a Fishman Paramount active pick-up... amazing!! Do you carry them and if so consider doing a video on it? I also have a Yamaha FSX800C which I purchased recently, a great guitar for the price, but sonically the Hellcat does sound much better both acoustically and plugged in. It sounds like a guitar that is way more than $100 more than the Yamaha. Still the Yamaha is a fun guitar to play and I'm enjoying it a lot!!

I’ll start off by saying I really like your feeds, when it comes to electric guitars I’m a huge Fender fan, acoustically not so much. Never understood why they don’t make higher end acoustics. I’d love to see you guys do a comparison on 12 string guitars around the 1,000 dollar range, if you have recently please drop a link., I value your opinions 🤙

I bought the black SCE and it’s cool. But I stopped watching this video at 4:00 because poor Cooper could hardly get a word in edgewise with Chris steamrolling the whole thing.

Where are these made? Any made in the USA?
@jem12823 жыл бұрын
I have a cc60 s and the label says "designed in the USA // Crafted in Indonesia". I have searched a little and it seems there is Cort who actually made then. So if you hear anyone saying that Cort acoustics are good for the price but the Fenders are crap you will have something to think about.

I don't understand the difference between the two guitars in the video when playability.

You are reading my mind. I'm just in the middle of big dilemma between those two. I was more for 140 because I thought 60 don't have tuner. But it has. So it's the difference only hard case? I don't really need it, so I can spare a lot of many as the guitar themselves are the same? Too bad you didn't compare both mahagony or both natural. Still thank you for this video!
@Balkac4 жыл бұрын
Ok I somehow missed the nubone part :) But still, nubone plus hard case for 110, it is worth?
@jasonm70953 жыл бұрын
Hey there I’m not sure if you did get the 60 but I want to start playing the guitar and I’m not sure which to play. Which do you recommend for a beginner but something that I may still use once I get better at it?

Hello. My name i Lars Nilsson. Living in a town called Kiruna in the north of Sweden. Can you please give me a video when you testing the Fender Cd 140 sce in mahogny. Not spuce. MAhognny. Please give me a feedback on that. . Thank you.
@user-dv1jz5od6k2 жыл бұрын
if you had taken cd60sce without mahagony, it would have been honester comparison.
