I've seen Michael a few times with James Taylor. One of the best comps I ever heard him do was the pedal steel part on Carolina In My Mind. He did it with a volume pedal, a slide, and his strat. Just....perfection.

His tone is nothing like Knopflers neither early nor late era. Nor is the finger style approach, nor the fact that a clean-ish strat is involved, they’re just different animals all-together.
