Where's the dumble sound
@ChesapeakeRepair2 жыл бұрын
Sound quality is definitely a challenging thing to translate through the way I record, which is significantly low tech I must admit. Regardless I still would venture to say these style clones won’t live up to the real deal Dumble, albeit the features are similar. Dumbles touch is what makes a Dumble a Dumble. Which I’m sure you already know. 🤘

I did this conversion on a HRD. Bought the revised E board. The OD did not sound right, with or without the HRM. I finally noticed a flaw on the schematic posted on Luigi's site. Look at the HRM portion of the schematic, and you will see a trace leading from the junction of TR3 and C40A going to the OD volume lug 3 (CW). This trace should not be there. If you have purchased an E board, and have not installed it, contact Luigi and he will send you a few pictures on how to correct it. If you have already installed and don't want to remove the board, this is what I did to correct it. Lift the top lead from C40A, lift the CW lead on TR3 and connect the two off the board. This will bypass the unneeded trace. I removed TR3 and C40A, then shortened the CW lead, soldered one lead of C40A to the short lead of TR3, then installed both. Make sure the CW lead is not touching the board. OD sounds like it should now. I did not install C43. You can install that cap on the OD Volume pot per schematics. Lou is great to work with and he can help if you contact him.

Thanks for the tips, covering the paper-work in plastic sleeves so you can write on it is a No1 tip, also those valve base pcbs might be useful. How long did it take to frim start to finish once you had all the parts?
@ChesapeakeRepair10 ай бұрын
Between testing the old one down, populating the board, ordering the right parts(a lot of parts for this build aren’t standard stuff that I keep in stock), wiring, burn in, play test, and tweaking. About 8hours. That will get a bit faster the more I do. But this initial one was probably about 8 hours.

My biggest thing is single core wire.. it gives me the shivers. If it breaks then that's it for the conductivity. With multi core you are unlikely to break every strand at one point and so it's a safety net... This stuff does happen out there and if it's your bias supply then heaven help you. There's good iron in those devilles. I'd be more a straight bassman or marshall out of them but that's just taste. And those connectors with the screws... Please no! Tidy job though!

What did you use for the shielded input cable? Would Mogami patch cable work?
@ChesapeakeRepair9 ай бұрын
Mogami patch cable would probably be too big, just a pin to work with inside an amp. The shielded wire in this amp is just standard coax style shielded wire. I think it’s 24gauge core, which is pretty thin. I have since switched to a different kind. I like the “ricenbacher” style shielded wire that Mojotone has. I think the core is 20 or 22gauge.
