I used one of these down in Florida. Stock no mods, I think mine had 6v6 though maybe not. But with my Memphis custom 335 with classic 57’s and the pro Jr both knobs cranked to 10 people were running up to me asking what mods I did, I said nothing. I was loud proud and the tone was amazing just plugged direct into the amp. The strat wasn’t enough to get it growling like the 335 did. I’m always on neck pickup. That was a blues band, and I would say these are great affordable blues player amp. That just wants to carry a guitar and amp easily to a gig and get down. I like the mods you did. Still great stock. Good stuff thanks for your vid.

Thanks for the video, I’m a big fan of them also. FYI “perf board” is the wrong term that’s a different thing. It’s PC board or PCB, short for printed circuit board. Perf is for prototyping and is a grid of many holes or perforations.

Great video. Thanks. I've replaced the PC board in my Pro Jr with hand-wired components so I know a bit about this amp. After watching your video I'm excited to put my amp back on the bench to make the tone stack changes. It's a very bright amp, especially with the Jensen that I came with it. I bought a Cannabis Rex speaker to tame the high end. Fender changed the R6 gain resistor from 56K in the Rev C schematic to 26K in Rev F schematic. That's close to your value of 20K so Fender followed your lead. I also reduced this resistor because the first stage gain was just way too high. (I have both the Rev C and Rev F schematics from Fender.) The Fender C1 value also changed from rev C (.01uF) to Rev F (.022uF), just as you suggested. I'll try your suggestion. This is the coupling cap. I'm confused about your C2 suggestion. This is the resistor that bypasses R5, affecting the tone. Both Fender schematics have this at 22pF. Your suggestion is .047. Is that .047nF, which would be 47 pF? I'll try 47pF. I'm also confused about your C10 suggestion. This is the capacitor that ties the two plate pins for the phase inverter tube. I'm not sure what this capacitor does. Both Fender schematics have this as 47pF. Your suggestion is again .047. Is that .047nF, which would be 47 pF? I'll try 47pF. Thanks again. Subscribed!!!

Thanks for subscribing and for your detailed analysis! I just used .047uf's in both cases, nothing fancy. I was just using the caps I had on hand to see what they would sound like and I was happy with them. Happy modding and thanks again!

Great vid! I just picked up a 95 tweed Pro Jr from the original owner and he said that he didn’t play it much and that it had the original tubes in it. My first tube amp, so I was curious about what makes it tick. It’s really loud as you said and started breaking up at about four or five. I saw a video about the pre-amp 12AX7’s where they just replaced them with 12AU7’s to get way more clean head room at volume and wa-lah! Now my pedal board can do its job.

My ‘94 actually sounds muddy unless you back the volume off. I keep the tone at 12 and the volume around 6. I might have to have the resister replaced to keep my tubes healthy.

Luv my Pro jr III vol5 tone 7 That's where it breaks up if you dig in... But it's so loud like that I can't use it at home.. So I used a Weber Mass 50 to attenuate it...... The Weber Mass has tone controls on it which help with Volume and tame the sizzle... Now I use the Weber Mass at gigs, not to attenuate but just for the added Controls

Thanks for watching! I use JJ's in my amps. I have always had good luck with them and they don't break the bank. I used to use Ruby and Sovtek tubes, but I have found over time that they are inconsistent - i.e. early burnout, etc. Hope that helps!

I’m three months behind, but curious to know if you have run a speaker cable from the unmodified amplifier to the greenback? Curious if the speaker makes the greatest difference in warming up the sound. Great video. I’ve done quite a few mods to my Hot Rod Deluxe.
@fearlessdiymusic7 ай бұрын
I have compared the two with the greenback and I was surprised. There is a bit more warmth with it, but not an extreme difference. Thanks for watching 🤘
@lexist79 ай бұрын
Thanks for the video. Honestly the tone isn’t drastically different. A speaker swap would probably have a bigger effect.
@fearlessdiymusic9 ай бұрын
There is a swap actually. The heavily modded amp has a green back in it. My main goal was to keep the power tubes from frying. I agree that the tone is not drastically different between the two, but the tone mod on the heavily modded amp did take some sizzle out and I can probably hear that better in the room than on camera. Thx for the input! 🤘

Just get a Boss 7 band EQ and you’ll get everything ya need for anywhere… get two of them and put them on the front end and back end of your board and that’s all ya need.

Remove the center screw in the back and it get rid of a ton of the noise this amp has

Hi,what kind of noise does it get rid of please? You mean cabinet rattle?
@silverjaw1383 ай бұрын
@@sharonlee4773 I don’t know the exact science, but when you remove the center screw, it quiets down the hiss and hum of the amp by like half. If I remember correctly the screw goes into the chassis of the amp itself and causes a ton of interference. The screw is unnecessary.
@fearlessdiymusic3 ай бұрын
@@silverjaw138 You are correct! Some amps don’t have the hiss and hum, but if they do, this is a first step to trying to get rid of it.

My stock pro jr has horrible buzzing( not from the single coil pickups….from the amp)
@fearlessdiymusic6 ай бұрын
Have you tried swapping power tubes? I found that the stock tubes were noisy. Also make sure your power supply is clean and if there are fluorescent lights around that can do it. My other thought is checking the ground wires for the power supply, they might be loose or have a bad solder. Hope that helps!

Some mods end up not being worth the effort - but the 20K resistor swap has given my power tubes much longer life and the darker tone caps are much better for me. Cheers!
