Saw Jeff Beck at Sheffield City Hall a few years ago, and he was playing through one of these - sounded incredible ( in fact it sounded like Jeff Beck!) It proved to me that, if you’re going to mic up your guitar amp anyway, why would you need anything more powerful?

I've got a Pro 3 Ltd edition that has been upgraded with a master volume. Great little amp, carefully chosen and assembled components. The Master gives it more headroom, in so far you can push it without breaking up too soon, or you can crank the volume and play it at reasonable level (it's 12W but it's loud). Pairs greatly with its Alnico 10" Jensen.

Man I'm so impressed with this amp, it sounds amazing and as good as any of my other amps. I put a jensen speaker in it which smoothed it out a little but apart from that I wouldn't change anything. Once it gets past 6 on the volume it just compresses in such a nice way and then gets increasingly more overdrive up to a cool rock tone.
Жыл бұрын
You went for the Alnico or the Ceramic? Did it make the amp louder/quieter?
@matt926uk1 Жыл бұрын
@ I put in a Jensen C10R which is ceramic, not sure if it made the amp quieter or louder but its sensitivity isn't very high so i would guess that its not any louder.

Probably one of the best of Fender...badass amp
Жыл бұрын
This amp made me realize what a powerful tool the volume knob on the guitar is... I have a couple of nice pedals but really for the last two months I rarely plug them in, there's just something special about plugging straight passive into this guy. I've been thinking about upgrading the 10 incher, but after listening to your tasteful recording I think I'm better off just embracing its stock unknown spec ceramic speaker. Amazing value on this amp. FYI, Fender implemented a slightly cooler cathode biasing on this one instead of the "hot rod" fixed bias, I'm curious to learn what more experienced repair techs and players have to say about that. Subscribed!
@matt926uk1 Жыл бұрын
oh cool, i didn't know that about the biasing. Does that mean i don't need to worry about biasing the amp when replacing the power tubes? And yeah theres nothing wrong witht the stock speaker, i just happened to have a spare Jensen lying around.
Жыл бұрын
@@matt926uk1 That is correct, no need to re-bias when replacing power tubes, among other advantages. I read somewhere that the dissipation on these was around 91% from factory which is still on the hot side. If you want to extend your tube lifespan you could bring it down by increasing the resistor coming out of pin 3 on each EL84, which I confirmed to be 270 ohm. Would love to hear a comparison of the stock speaker VS the C10R! Cheers
@matt926uk1 Жыл бұрын
@ thats good to know, thanks. I've never worked on the inside of an amp before so i'd have to take it to a tech to do that. I'll see what i can do regarding a comparison.

With a 2 valve and no PBC, this circuit needs a dedicated codex for voltage spikes a internal surge will pop after a year and will not be repairable. I routed the resistor, capacitor to the voltage source and 50 watts and it has the same schematic equivalence as a 30 watt solid state transistor . Just doesn’t add up….hard pass on this one

PCB is cheaper to produce but more prone to failures as the pots are right on the board as well as other weaknesses compared to the older methods of construction. A PCB amp can be made to quite high quality but most like this amp have various compromises.
