Fender's (OLD) Ultra Stratocasters 1990-1998 - Flame maple tops and more!

In this video, I'm going to give you a quick rundown about the Fender ULTRA Stratocasters. These are the old Ultras and not the new ones Fender is offering today. These came equipped with jet-black Ebony fretboards, real abalone inlays, all chrome parts, and a very versatile pick-up / wiring system. The best they ever made. I love mine. Its a 91. I did change the pickups, many, many times. It does just about everything. This,my tele and my 335 does it all.

Some people do not like the fact these have a darker tone. It is not a 50's sounding Strat, but a more fuller and even hotter tone. So people get them and they don;t think it sounds like a vintage Strat! DUH, It isn't! But also a slight tweaking of the amp tone controls you can dial it in where you want it. Two years ago my wife and I did an Alaska Cruse. I heard JAZZ music coming from a lounge so we took in a set. this was classic JAZZ. The guitar player had an Ultra. I went up and talked with him and found out they were all from Norway. He told me that Strat did EVERYTHING! Jazz, Rock, Country. I asked him if he ever saw Xhefri Guitars website and he said, "Oh yes! Before this cruise I printed out the whole Ultra page and have it with me!" I then told him that was my website.... I felt like a celebrity! LOL!! Just fun connecting with people. That is the cool thing about music and instruments.

This has been my dream guitar for as long as I’ve known they existed. I just snagged an early ultra in blue burst on reverb, serial starts with E9. It would have come out when I was 5 years old, and I absolutely feel like a 5 year old waiting for Christmas to arrive.

Thanks for the video. I collect the early Fender Lace guitars. I have a Clapton, Plus (in Midnight Purple), Tele Plus (Ebony Frost), and Ultra in sunburst. On my Tele Plus the Frost has some tiny sparkles in it. My cutoff for Fender is 1993 but these guitars are so well made and sound so good. My Ultra doesn't have a seam on the top, unlike a couple of others. The serial number is N9, which I would put as 1999, but obviously, it's an early '90s guitar. I read something about these serial numbers somewhere. Also, the lack of a string tree makes the Ultra models different.

Brilliant guitars. They also have a Tremsette and locking nuts. The best Fender Strat I have ever owned. I have had many different Fender Strats, this is the best of them all... 🎸

Great vid, thanks for posting. I just sold a Mystic Black 94 Ultra as it happens...was a hard sale though, prices seem to be on the floor for these...and for what is an exceptional guitar. I've owned the modern Ultra too, an much prefer the 90s one. By the way, that Ebony Burst one is beautiful

This ebony burst I sold a couple years ago to a fellow/friend and about 3 months ago he needed cash so I bought the guitar back. Did you notice a one-piece top? Very cool!

I see these mislabeled a lot as Foto Flames. Those are great guitars in their own right, but they usually go for $800-1200. You can get some deals if someone doesn't know what these are!

Hi Xhefri!Im a fan of your site and your YT-channel.I would like to ask you about the 2-point tremolo bridgeplates.Were they thicker on the older standards,strat pluses and ultras?I have a partocaster with an old 2-point tremolo(modded with a callaham block and customshop block saddles)from late 80s.I setup my 2-point with a fixed saddle radius and use the 2 pivot screws to adjust string height.I ordered a new bridgeplate for another project and it was thinner but im not sure if this is what fender uses now on the newer models or if the replacement parts are thinner and cheaper.I very much prefer the original bridgeplate thickness.

Not sure what you have is original and I do not/jave not, owned any of the new American series so I do not have anything to measure it against. I know from 86 to 99 the plates were all the same thickness,
