Finally! I have been wanting this information for 30 years. I have an Ice Blue (583) Strat Plus. It had a neck replaced under warranty (defective truss rod) and they shipped a neck cut for an LSR nut. I didn't mind at the time but now I wish I'd kept it original. Still, it is a great guitar! I like the Lace Sensor pickups, the LSR nut, and the Sperzel tuners.

Thanks for sharing. Yeah it’s been nice if they could’ve kept the Wilkerson nut, but that kind of stuff happens. The crazy thing is this kind of situation will sometimes cause confusion because guitar like that’ll end up on the market and then everybody is debating how an older Strat Plus could have that nut on it. Lots of debates and arguments start!

I wish I knew exactly when I bought this guitar and what year it was. I got it second hand from a music store about 1993 and it had to have been a few years old then. It seems to me all the identifying information was on the old neck, which I had to return to Fender when I got the replacement. I was lucky Fender honoured the warranty at that point.

Really interesting. They’re all lovely colours. I have a vintage brown burst (I think) 93 plus deluxe, it’s lovely but you can’t beat rare colours. I just bought a CS 2004 California beach 62 strat in Catalina Blue - now that’s a rare colour!

I have a 89 Bahama Green. Nicest finish ever..sometimes it even looks more blue

Nice video. I think that is what is cool about Strats and Teles. Practical guitars with cool colors. I had a very nice 1990s Fender Strat Plus Deluxe with the Lace Sensors, the body in Sonic Blue, as far as I know. I recall some sort of a roller nut to facilitate tremolo use, a blond maple neck, and a white pearloid pickguard. If I recall correctly, the three Lace Sensors were Blue, Silver and Red (Neck, Middle, Bridge). Really sweet guitar.

I have an 87 Strat Plus in Vintage White which is really that creamy yellow. Mine has humbuckers though. I bought it in 88 and whomever had it before for that 6 months took out the lace sensors and put in Dimarzio Fred humbuckers

I had a 1993 that someone tossed a set of Seymour Duncan 59s with chrome covers into. They problem was, instead of cutting the pickups legs and soldering it back together they took some took and gouged out the body route so the ears on the pickups had room. Such and nice body and then inside??? YUCK!!!

Mine is correct. Swimming pool cavity rout. Its got the second tone control and in place of the last tone control they put a Gibson 3 way switch. the fun part is they also put in two mini splitters to split the humbuckers into single coils. My other "plus" is a 2000 American Deluxe in Sunburst. has the a rosewood neck with abalone dots and the chrome locking tuners and LSR roller nut. Found me an ice blue one from 88 just recently, it'll stay in my collection forever! I just love the way it looks - and sounds. Question though, I can't seem to find any info about the Lace Sensor pickups (covers). Some of them appear white, some aged white, some of them have silver letters, others have golden letters (the newer ones seem to have different colors?). But what about those of the 80s, are they aged white pickups just aged or were they made like that in some cases? And what's with the lettercolor? Mine are really white with silver letters. Please share your info, love to hear more!

Hey, The Lace covers are epoxied on so not too much talk about them, like change them for different colors, like in the way we do with standard single coils pickups. Easy to change covers on those. And yes, the white covers aged and turned creamy colored. If you have really white cover with really readable lettering it mean that guitar has not been played much! Sounds like a great score!

Did they all have that modern C neck shape? I had one several years ago. Loved the way it sounded but couldn't stand the neck profile. I was actually considering buying another neck to put on it but eventually ended up selling it.

I'm pretty sure the entire run of Strat Plus guitars except maybe the Clapton Strat (mostly same specs, but had a 'V' neck profile and hardtail) all had the Modern C neck profile. Perhaps Xhefri has more info...

I still have the Surf Green one from 1987.Sort of, I refinished it and took out the Sensors.I love it but also understand you about the neck profile, yet it is a bit different too.

You mentioned 87/89 vintage white... wasnt it called Artic White?

The Oct 1987 Strat Plus Sales Cat listed Vintage White (Code 41) Also in the April 1988 it was listed as well. In 1989 Fender then listed Arctic White BUT I have seen both VW and AW in 89. I have picts of both. What also cause confusion is the yellowing of the clear coats causing the colors to be, well, more yellow (aged) and a tad darker. See: xhefriguitars.com/page2.html#C13

I just today bought a E9 Plus with an early 1990 neck date very yellowed and I like it :) how would I know the actual color?

Thank you...oh for the record about 6 or 8 months ago I swapped a 2017 Pro Series Strat to a guy for a 88 Strat plus turns out he bought it from someone you sold it to back in early 2020 or 2021:) He sent me your listing on it you addressed it as your friend calling the color Gunmetal Blue :) Best Strat ive ever played and owned.Now I proudly own two. Thank you for such a quick response ...I really enjoy your page and appreciate all your Strat Plus Wisdom.
