The necks on those are really nice. I have a 1993 VN3 Squier Strat from Korea - plywood body yes, but the neck feels awesome and it sounds and plays just as good as any of my other Strats.

I own a ‘94 Fender “Squier Series”. Mine was made in Mexico. My understanding is that Fender ran these special series from ‘93 to ‘98 - give or take a year. I still own mine. I gutted it years ago and upgraded everything to better parts. 25+ guitars in my collection and my ‘94 is still my main player. 😎🎸

I'm refinishing one right now. Got it all beat up and rusty. Stripped the paint, repainted it. Removed the neck laquer and put Danish oil on it. New tuners, roller tree, tusq nut, pretty much everything replaced. Still have some work to do, but it's a brand new guitar and I can't wait to see how it plays!

The legendary 80's Ibanez RG had some of the best wood in them . I love my RG's. I'll have to count how many ply's they are when I open them.find out why they sound so good.😂

Great video Zimms I remember these when they came out you could pick them up on the cheap not anymore, If you changed the bridge and tuners the weren’t that bad if you got a good one alot of them had crappy frets and fret work it was just the luck of the draw.

This Squier brings back some memories, but unfortunately not good ones. I remember a buddy in particular bought one of these back in the 90's and it just started to fall apart right away. Those tuners were junk( I think one fell off) and I'm not surprised about the saddles because he had issues with them. Not only that, the fret work was not good. Good thing Zimm is fixing this one up. I think he paid 200 bucks for it, which is crazy what you can get nowadays for that amount, especially at Zimm's!

I have an 86 contemporary tele/Stratocaster. It had a neck alignment issue. Just sold the 89 Squier stratocaster.

It's crazy the difference between these and the Mexican Squier series. The Mexican has the thinner bridge block, but it's made of Poplar and only has one string tree. It also has the famous Black Label.

Ahhhh, was waiting for this one to come up! It has a really cool light relic vibe that is real. I really don't think the plywood makes a difference other than likely being typically heavier and in some cases stronger. On a sprayed color finish, who cares really? This one is begging for personal mods. It is old school cool & has clearly stood the test of time. I would rock it and smile as I play 😊

Plywood guitars can be great. I’ve owned 3 80s Kramers, all plywood bodies, great necks. Favorite guitars!

Love these 90s ‘Squier series’ guitars. Upgrade those bulky ass tuners and you’ve got a MIM level Strat, at least.

I fell for someone's trickery through a Cash Converters pawn shop last year... They had a midnight purple early-mid 90's "Fender" PJ bass that used EMG pickups (which are valid aftermarket) and electronics. Gives me real Geezer Butler vibes. The person who sold it to them had sanded off the "Squier" headstock label in order to make them think it was a Fender to get that name's premium. I mean, it's a good bass and it plays well. I just overpaid for it. Checked the S/N after I got home and felt a little deflated. 😞

I have thought that suppose one came across a genuine fender neck, cheap, and clamped it onto any old Stratocaster or Telecaster body, how easily could that ‘parts-caster’ be sold on as a genuine “Fender”? I’ll bet it’s been done often enough.

my '89 Korean came with small 500k ohm pots. they're way better off with larger 250k pots that are typically used with single coils. this one sounds like it has the same problem.

the paint fade is worth it.. plywood is no big deal, its never going to be a $100,000 guitar, but in 50 or so it may be fairly collectable, in a few hundred even more as it will have held up better than the others, laminated hardwood has a serious shelf life specially finished
@deandee8082
@deandee8082 8 ай бұрын
its not actually plywood, its a laminate, plywood is made with construction grade woods, not hardwoods, more likely than not it's birch, laminate, not plywood, GUARANTEED its far more stable that any other 1 or 2 piece hardwood body... and your older stuff is prolly some form of animal glue so its decent for tone or resonance . . . good guitars, hale those small font knobs are worth $50 at least... real good ceramic pups, all in all its a good guitar, if it has the good trapezoid tuners and if they work leave em, the good traps have a screwed on knob, so you can adjust tension on the gearing, tighten the screw and the knob is harder to turn, preventing it from backing off while playing, if they do not have the screw type knobs you can get a set for like $20 bucks online, that way you retain the originality of the instrument, the only way it will ever have any sorta value

I don’t care for logos anymore. Squier makes some great instruments; especially the Classic Vibe Series. I’ve got a couple myself besides some high end and vintage pieces. This one looks really nice. Who cares if it’s plywood if the thing is resonant and has a good sound? Swap out the cheesy tuners and you should be set.

So is the only part of this guitar that is truly a “Fender” the neck? But not even the tuning gears are Fender. And y’know when you see a Square guitar, it’s usually labelled “Squire, by Fender”? But this one should be labelled, Fender by Squire, although some might say that a plywood body falls short even of Squire’s standards. Somehow I feel that this guitar, as a branded product, is just a little bit disingenuous. Like it could be priced over and above what it might otherwise cost without the Fender brand logo on the headstock. In short they could make a better profit out of a cheaper product just with a brand name alone. Kinda abusive, maybe? I mean, it seems like a bit of a dereliction of one’s own brand integrity if you ask me. But Hey! If I came by that guitar at the right buying price for my music shop (if I had one) I wouldn’t turn it away. Very interesting video, thank you so much, Dane.

If they're anything like the Mexican "Squier Series" then when it was new, it was the lowest end Fender branded guitar they offered. They were trying to compete with foreign imports that were selling cheaper at the time. The Mexican ones were about $300 brand new, I think.
